Greasy pizza, stale nachos, and soggy chicken are just some examples of the kind of foods that are being served in our cafeteria. Students of Fairfield High School have to stomach these unsatisfying and unhealthy lunches every day for a whole school year. A needed improvement to our school menu is long overdue. To our principal, Dr. Cushman and to our district superintendent, along with my fellow classmates, we as a collective whole have decided that we deserve to be fed healthy and delicious lunch meals, not the frozen and processed foods that we are currently being provided with.
In an interview I conducted with Glenda Eliarda, a nurse of nearly 10 years, Mrs. Eliarda said that majority of the meals offered in our school are not nutritious. Pizza, nachos, fries, and chips are not highly beneficial to our health and development. Students should consume more meals that include leafy green vegetables and fresh fruits. Even though our school does offer healthy alternatives like salads and snack packs, giving us an option to eat unhealthily is one of the major problems I believe that needs to be addressed. …show more content…

Entirely eliminating unhealthy foods from the school menu will substantially lessen the possibility of students choosing to eat the foods that are relatively equivalent to fast foods. Instead, the school menu should contain healthy and appetizing meals that are easy to prepare. I suggest keeping the “good foods” which are the salads, snack packs which contains celery and seasonal fruits, and the chicken wrap. In addition, I suggest adding more healthy meal options like tuna & white bean wraps, chicken quinoa burrito bowls instead of the tasteless Asian rice bowls, and bean burgers instead of the processed smokey barbeque
