Originally, my first take on this review was going to be on delicious pieces of fried chicken. Fried chicken can be a fun topic to talk about for a review, but there are only so many points to review and make when reviewing fried chicken. I decided to change what my topic would focus on for the review. To compare and review two different brands of athletic clothing enlightened me. The idea to compare athletic leisurewear popped into my head when I was deciding what shorts to wear on my run one afternoon. For example, people of all different body shapes can agree that Adidas shorts can be uncomfortable to wear in public. The unattractive length of the shorts can make it unnerving walking out in public in fear of what judgment from other people. Though the style might not fit some people’s personality, Adidas shorts are very comfortable and worth the amount of money people spend on them. Adidas, like Nike, have shorts that fit comfortably for all people of all sizes. On the other hand, Nike shorts have a more modern-day style. The length of the shorts is not as long as the ones from Adidas making it more comfortable to wear in public without fear of judgement. Being comfortable in an outfit is a key role whenever someone is buying clothes. Nike and Adidas do make similar clothing as each other, but Nike does have options to choose from if you do not particular like a certain color. Nike has colors of all sorts while Adidas sticks with the traditional colors like red, black, grey, and blue. This is one reason why Adidas is more of an athletic sports clothing line than a leisure day at work or school clothing line. Since its creation, Nike has proven itself as a popular brand and it has created niches by selling products such as footwear, apparels and various types of sports equipment. This paper will attempt to trace the product development of Nike shoes from its origins in conception and design to the manufacturing and production process located in contract factories in developing countries to advertising and marketing of Nike as a cultural commodity and finally, the retailing of the footwear around the world.
As Nike is an international company that has their product selling worldwide, they have countless of competitors, including many domestic local firm. However, not all of these companies have the power to compete with Nike, only a few international companies are Nike¡¦s major competitors, for instance, Adidas and Reebok.
That gives strength to the product because it can never be confused for something else, for insistence the moment you see the Nike swoosh you can automatically associate it with either their sneakers, apparel or workout gear. It name is distinct, and it can be easily translated into other languages because there isn’t a particular translation. The “Just do it” slogan means to be daring, which attracts customers since it suggests that by purchasing these products you can somehow become a better, more athletic person. From Nike’s mission statement and its slogan to its marketing strategies, Nike tries to bring forward that the products themselves will give you qualities that make you more appealing. A major advantage that Nike has over similar clothing companies Adidas, Puma or Umbro is that they have set themselves up to encompass their brand name by having created such strong brand recognition. It’s been tested, compared, and debated which brand is better. Whether it’s the quality of the materials or the cost of it, the debate is ongoing. It’s because when I sport the Nike swoosh, I feel as if I representing the Nike brand and the beautiful, driven, fit women I see in their advertisements.
