In the intense memoir Night, Elie Wiesel uses the use of a literary device , an idiom, to describe and create imagery and describe personality for people in the concentration camp during the holocaust.
As Elie Wiesel enters a hut in the concentration camp he just arrived in. One of the prison veterans gives a speech to all the new selected Men in the camp. As Wiesel first seems him , he gives a description of the man’s personality:”A tall man in his thirties, a crime written all over his forehead and his gaze” ( Elie Wiesel 38 ).
For this example, Wiesel uses an idiom to describe the prisoner’s personality, not his actual appearance. The phrase written all over their [part of body] is used to describes somebody's identity , actions
