INTRODUCTION
I have decided to research into Networking as my individual assignment for CP2099, because I am interested in setting up networks, as I already have set up my own small network at home. I also want to find out some of the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of networks.
I will research extensively in order to find the best possible network for:

Appendix 1.3: The Router
ADSL 16port Router with built in Modem & Firewall Source: PC World The Instant Broadband EtherFast Cable/DSL VPN Router is the ideal solution for remotely accessing a network securely over the Internet using cutting edge encryption and authentication methods.16Port Router, which expands its functionality and security, features by utilizing 56-bit DES and 168-bit 3DES encryption, and Internet Key Exchange (IKE). A built-in IPSec coprocessor from Hifn allows for complete data privacy for the access and exchange of your most sensitive data from your home to your corporate network or between remote branch offices without the additional cost of IPSec VPN client software for each computer. The Router is capable of conducting up to 70 simultaneous IPSec VPN tunnels while allowing additional savings with no upgrade fees or technical support costs.
The 362-page report was given to Mayor Richard Riordan and members of the Police Commission on Tuesday evening and will be released to the public and the rest of the city's elected leaders today. It was provided to The Times on Tuesday by top officials of the LAPD.
Network Security is the protection of the computer’s network though out the entire infrastructure. It can protect very important information and computer files to help prevent theft, spyware, malware, viruses, and more. Depending on if you have a public or private network, can determine what type of security settings you need for your network. All people are different on what they want to have secured or not, but most people do not know how to prevent people or things from getting in their network. “You must have a general understanding of security terminology and specifications as it relates to configuring hardware and software systems.”(Roberts, Richard M. 599). That quote states that by knowing and understanding security terms and specifics, you can
The reports being used in this model are the Pre Plea Investigation Report, the Pre-sentence Report and the Pre Disposition report.
This report will be divided into six parts beginning with an introduction and ending with a conclusion.
Internet VPN is a solution that utilizes a shared infrastructure in a way that provides you high performance and strong security. Internet VPN offers you the benefits of a private network (security, controlled performance) with the advantages of public networks (flexibility, scalability, redundancy, load sharing, performance, and lower costs).
Networks are designed in a number of ways, based on the geographical area, the technology used, user group specific, application based etc. But we can roughly categorize the communication networks in 2 broad categories, based on transmission: Connection-Oriented and Connectionless.
To summarize, we are recommending the use of WPA-2 Enterprise protocols, VPN for remote access, Firewalls, Proxy Servers, and IDS for the DEM network.
This motherboard has Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0. This gives the advantage of high-speed transfer between external sources such as video cameras, digital cameras, scanners, audio recorders, and any other possible external components. USB 2.0 is faster than fire wire, which is currently the most widely used transfer hardware.
...fluence the speeds on your networks and the connected devices. Three types of cabling are commonly used; coaxial, twisted pair, and fiber optic. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Kudler Fine Foods has a twisted pair or 100BaseT LAN network that uses Cat-5 cables. This has the amount of speed needed for the network to run. The connection between stores are dedicated T3 lines using coaxial cable with speeds of 44.736 Mbit/s. There is also a dedicated OC-1 line connecting the home office to each store. This line is a SONET line with transmission speeds of up to 51.84 Mbit/s.
The data collected will be analysed and interpreted. The summary of the findings, suggestions and the conclusion will be given in the report.
Each node (individual computer) in a LAN has its own CPU with which it executes programs, but it also is able to access data and devices anywhere on the LAN. This means that many users can share expensive devices, such as laser printers, as well as data. Users can also use the LAN to communicate with each other, by sending e-mail or engaging in chat sessions. LANS are capable of transmitting data at very fast rates, much faster than data can be transmitted...
Figure 2.11 above shows the network topology in a single lab. In the lab, a star topology is used to connect a printer, a wireless access point and 50 personal computers with a single special device known as switch. Instead of using hub, a switch is used to identify which computer system is connecting to which port. Switch knows exactly where a frame is received from and which port it wants to send to, without increasing the network response time. Unlike a hub which divides the bandwidth among the systems when multiple PCs are broadcasting, switch enables system users to access the maximum amount of bandwidth regardless the number of PCs transmitting. Thus, a switch is considered as a better choice than a hub because it maintains the performance instead of degrading.
Digital Subscriber Line new technology that takes advantage of standard copper telephone line to provide secure, reliable, high-speed Internet access. DSL refers to the family of digital subscriber line technologies, such as ADSL, HDSL, and RADSL. Connection speed for DSL ranges from 1.44 Mbps to 512 Kbps downstream and around 128 Kbps upstream. Unlike traditional connections DSL such as analog modems and IDSN, DSL deliver continuous “always on” access. That means multimedia-rich websites, e-mail, and other online applications are available anytime. DSL makes it possible for you to remain online even while you’re talking on the telephone-without jeopardizing the quality of either connection. DSL is available in a spectrum of speeds. Some are best home use, while others are designed to accommodate rigorous business demands. Whether for business or the home, DSL, offers unsurpassed price/performance value compared to other online options. There are the five facts that one should know about DSL. It is remarkably fast. With DSL service, you can benefit from Internet speeds that are up to 12 minutes faster than a typical ISDN connection and 50 times faster than traditional 28.8 Kbps modems. This means that in the 12 seconds it takes to read this information, you could have downloaded a 2 megabyte presentation file or web photograph. It would take 10 more minutes (600 more seconds!) to download the same with a traditional 28.8 Kbps. It’s highly reliable. One can depend on DSL because its proven technology takes full advantage of the existing telecommunications infrastructure. It’s inherently secure. DSL network provides a dedicated Internet connection via private telephone wires, you can bypass dial-up intruders or shared network hackers. Unlike traditional dial-upp modems or cable modems. DSL protects your valuable data with the most secure connection available. It’s surprising affordable. DSL is widely recognized as the most cost-effective connectivity solution for small buisness. DSL delivers industrial- strength like speed to multiple users at only 25% of typical TI costs. There is no better price option available. DSL is also an exceptional value for home users. At about $2 a day for services that meets the needs of most people. The connection is always on. It’s ready to run every minute of the day. There’s no more logging on and off. No more busy signals or disconnects. This gives you the freedom to focus on what you want to accomplish on line rather than focusing on trying to get connected.
Local Area Networks also called LANs have been a major player in industrialization of computers. In the past 20 or so years the worlds industry has be invaded with new computer technology. It has made such an impact on the way we do business that it has become essential with an ever-growing need for improvement. LANs give an employer the ability to share information between computers with a simple relatively inexpensive system of network cards and software. It also lets the user or users share hardware such as Printers and scanners. The speed of access between the computers is lighting fast because the data has a short distance to cover. In most cases a LAN only occupies one or a group of buildings located next to each other. For larger area need there are several other types of networks such as the Internet.
If you’ve ever been a network administrator, the call you dread the most might be one you receive in the middle of the night by some panicked employee stating that a portion of your critical network has gone down. What troubleshooting options are available to provide answers to your network problem? Besides having a proactive helpdesk that can “read” the mind of your network, an important part of troubleshooting involves using a network protocol analyzer. If you’ve done your research, you realize that there are many choices on the market today that may satisfy your needs but make a dent your company’s pocket book. Plus, you have to factor in training your helpdesk on how to use this new tool and if it will provide some type of return on investment (ROI).
