Netflix Strengths
Netflix provides a subscription-style e-commerce service. Customers only need to sign up and pay $13.95-39.95 a month to borrow as many as 2-9 movies at a time with no monthly limit. If customers quickly watch the DVD and send them back, the monthly fee pays for quite a few movies. The relatively low monthly fee enables Netflix to compete with Blockbuster and other brick-and-mortar video rental business. Meanwhile, Netflix might keep the customers who try the service and happy with it continue paying the monthly fee. Therefore, Netflix has less problem in predicting revenue or level revenues.
* Being an on-line DVD rental store, Netflix combines the growing Home Entertainment Market and the Internet. Unlike brick-and-mortar video rental business, Netflix incurs less overhead because no storefront is required and less employees are hired. Movies are sent to customers in prepaid envelope within 24 hours after the customer returns a movie. Located in San Francisco, Netflix still owns nation wide market through World Wide Web. In addition, customer can easily get the movies they like without leaving home.
* Netflix provides customers unlimited access to the world's largest DVD library consisting of 10,000 movies. This in more than 10 times the selection of the Blockbuster. Netflix's terrific search engine and automatic movie recommendation engine helps customers find their favorite movies easily.
* Netflix enables customer to enjoy their service without long line ups and late fees. Customers can select moves and put them into rental queue. Customers can easily edit queue time, too. At the same time, customers can keep the movie as long as they want without the hassle of due dates.
* Netflix has very good customer service. Whenever the customer has a problem with a returned movie, a broken DVD or a missing DVD, Netflex will respond to it immediately. The customer does not need to pay for broken discs or movies lost in the delivery process. The Customer can feel free to give comments and recommendations about the service.
* Netflix's web site is impressive and easy to navigate. Customers can master it quickly and benefit greatly from its movie introduction and powerful search engines, recommendation engines and queuing mechanism. If customers return to Netflix after only partially complete registration, they don't have to start over from the beginning.
Both services do share some of the same tv shows and movies, but ultimately in my opinion Netflix has the better option of movies. Netflix has some of the newer movies higher rated movies. Netflix has a better option of classic movies then Hulu has available. Hulu does have access to shows faster than when it becomes available on Netflix, but Netflix does have a larger source of shows than Hulu does. With the new shows that go to Hulu only five are available at a time. While Netflix has access to season of the same shows, so you are available to go back and rewatch the whole series over
Netflix has become something of a hotbed for television binge-watchers, but despite some criticism, its selection of movie entertainment remains formidable as well. If you’re looking for something to whet your cinematic whistle, look no further than these five classics and modern favorites.
With over 35 distribution centers across the United States, Netflix has the fastest delivery time of any online DVD rental company. Through the use of the United States Postal Service, over 90% of DVDs are received by customers within one day of ordering. ? Netflix?s easy to use website allows customers to browse the video library by category such as action, romance, drama (sixteen total categories) or by using a comprehensive internal search of the library. ? Netflix uses the technology of Cinematch to give customers even better service. Cinematch studies past selections made by members, and begins to recommend titles that would likely be enjoyed by the customer based on previous selections. ?
The average Blockbuster store carries roughly 1,500 movie titles. Netflix carries more than 12,000 titles. It has movies that you can't find anywhere else. And Netflix uses collaborative filtering technology to send you emails that alert you to movies that you might otherwise never consider. Netflix saw the video- and game-rental market moving to DVD and built its business around that trend. Netflix doesn't rent videocassettes, only DVDs (in part because they're lighter and cheaper to mail). Netflix was able to identify and implement a strategy fo...
As advance technology of fiber-optic developed and is on the rise, everyday there is another story about entertaining movies on demand and streaming online is with ease. Those developments which let movie’s viewers sit in the comfort of their home or anywhere with access to the internet can stream instance movies with a push of a bottom. They no longer need to make a trip to the movie’s stores for movies rental and return, so that is why movie shops fail and filed for bankruptcy bring a symbolic close to the “let’s go rent a movie” era. Blockbuster LLC, formerly Blockbuster Entertainment Inc., both owned and franchised American-based giant provider of home movie and video game rental services through video rental stores, later adding movies by mail, streaming online and video on demand. Due to the peak of fiber-optic and competition from companies such as Netflix, Redbox, and GameFly, Blockbuster became the victim of digital media and filed for bankruptcy on September 23, 2010 due to significant lost in revenue.[3]
In conclusion, the vast technology change opens many opportunities for Netflix to grow. By assessing the market environment and challenges, it enables Netflix to overcome the obstacles to remain as the market leader. To achieve the future growth, Netflix should implement both strategic and tactical approaches to compete with others. The strategic and tactical business plans for Netflix are improving content libraries, developing more partnership with production firms, and staying with the low-pricing strategy.
Netflix first grabbed the attention of many customers when, unlike the local video rental store, they eliminated due dates and late fees charged by traditional video rental stores. The Netflix model allows customers to pay a monthly subscription fee for which they receive as many movies as they want in a month. The subscribers order DVD’s via the firms website and delivered through the United States Postal Service. Subscribers keep the movie as long as they want and when finished return it to Netflix in a postage paid envelop.
Netflix was established by Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings in 1997 in California. Initially, the company offered a DVD-by-mail service for a monthly, flat rate subscription fee. Videos were sen...
From its inception, Netflix has become a business based on superior customer service and has subscribed its business to the market marketing management philosophy. The main purpose behind Hasting’s idea of a better way to rent and enjoy movies was how to provide that service to their clients and not have any late fees. In other words, their customers could enjoy their rentals from Netflix for as long as they wanted, and they would never have to worry about late fees again, so long big movie rental chains! This aspect alone of Netflix’s marketing plan indicates that Netflix has based their marketing plan on market orientation, “a philosophy that assumes that a sale does not depend on an aggressive sales force but rather on a customer’s decision to purchase a product,” (Lamb, 2009, p.7). Many companies that take on this philosophy are said to implementing the market concept. The marketing concept states: “The idea that social and economic justification for an organization’s existence is the satisfaction of customer wants and needs while meeting orga...
Reed Hastings, co-founder of Netflix headquartered in Los Gatos, CA, began the company’s operations in 1997 after receiving an enormous late charge from a movie rental he returned long overdue. However, Hastings had the desire to be different than traditional movie outlets; whereas, customers had to drive to the location, pay a certain amount for each movie they rented, and were given a deadline in which to return the movie. Instead of using a method established by other video markets “to attract customers to a retail location, Netflix offered home delivery of DVDs through the mail” which eventually led to a booming business towards streaming forms of entertainment (Shih, Kaufman, & Spinola, 2009, p. 3). Today, Netflix exists along with several competitors; however, offers the most streaming content available for viewing, and continues to grow its subscriber base both domestically and globally. Although, direct and indirect competitors, acquisition costs, and several barriers present a financial threat for Netflix, the company has managed to grow with the acclamation of partnerships, expand to international territories, and vastly increase its price in shares of stock.
When debating Netflix and movie theaters the factors to consider are convenience, variety, price, and the experience. These are the four most important factors, because people want the best quality that is the most cost effective. Through my research, I show that movie theaters have an unsurpassed experience associated with them, but Netflix is convenient, affordable, and has a wide array of programs.
As the firm moves forward, top managers must pay attention to staying unique to sustain a competitive advantage. Netflix does not own their content, nor do they have any tangible assets. Netflix is a part of a broad range of network users. As technology continues to grow exponentially, Netflix will have to be readily adaptive to change and innovation. Technology never stops growing and evolving, therefore, Netflix’s business platform should never stop growing and evolving. At the same time, they must be careful to remain user friendly and customer centric by keeping the technology at a level where users will not have to obtain a certain set of technological skill sets.
The best part for the consumer is that similar to Netflix, you can engage in a free 2 month trial before you commit to a monthly subscription. This helps consumers continue to evaluate in order to make sure this is the best service to satisfy their need. Also, subscriptions are monthly and can be cancelled at any
1) Netflix’s currently does not have a user-friendly method for customers to stream videos onto television sets. Netflix is entering agreements with the manufacturers of game systems, Blu-ray disc players, and televisions to include software capable of streaming Netflix videos. 2) There is strong competition with other companies that offer video streaming at no extra charge. Additionally, Netflix and its competitors are attempting to enter the digital world.
A movie theater has its advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is that people can see the showing of different movies that have been newly released. The disadvantage is that, that is all there is to it and nothing more. At home, you can control the variety and ways to watch a movie. People buy many movies to watch at home and it can be anything at any time even at any place. The only bad thing about it is that they cannot see any of the newest released movies that recently came out in theaters. There are two types of ways people watch movies at their homes. One way is people already own DVDs or have bought many of them and start watching them in their DVD players. The other ways are streaming a movie through the internet. For this to happen, people would mainly buy the monthly subscriptions such as Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime. Through this subscription people do not only watch movies in their homes but they also watch television shows. The only downside is there is a very limited number of movies added onto these
