Netflix is a great website/app. Netflix has over three thousand movies and TV shows, and a variety to choose from. The organization is a site or an app, where people can watch movies and TV shows for as low as eight-dollars a month. Netflix has many genres. They even have a section just for kids. Netflix also created their own productions, which they have many Netflix originals. There is also an account setting where many people can have their own page on Netflix. The Company is always uploading new things, so it always updated. Netflix started up in 1997, by Reed Hastings and Marc Rudolph. A main section and a kid's section. The kids section is a great resource for parents. It makes sure that everything the child watch is appropriate for the child. The only type of movies allowed on kids Netflix are: PG (Parental Guidance) or PG-13 (parental guidance-13). It eliminates anything that is for adults. It eliminates rated R, meaning anyone under 17 requires adult supervision. Is also gets rid of anything that is TV-MA (mature audiences). Even though it gets rid of these types of movies and shows, Netflix stills leave plenty of shows and movies for kids to choose from. They can still have a wild variety to choose from. Netflix has many genres. Meaning many categories to choose form, they have: action, anime, horror, comedies, dramas, and many more. The more movies/ TV shows you watch, Netflix helps customize your account, to specific genres one is like. So, when one gets stuck on what to watch. In fact, had John actually been accompanied by his parents, the theatre would have had every right -- some would even say responsibility -- to refuse his admission. The printing of the NC-17 rating often does not read -- as would be reasonable -- "Intended for Adults Only" but rather the more rigid "Not to be Attended by Children Under Seventeen.
The MPAA rating system is outdated. The recent advances in technology allow children to see movies regardless of the rating. The rating system worked well for the early years, but recently “kids slip into the movies they want to see. . . . According to the history of movie rental, home video, and gaming, Netflix was the first company to introduce the movie rental service back in April of 1998 and offered more than 900 titles (Lardener, 2010). Ever since, the industry has become larger with new technology such as online streaming and next day delivery. Also, more competitors are now available and provide the same services, such as Amazon, Wal-Mart, blockbuster, and Redbox kiosks.

In 1998 Netflix headquartered in Los Gatos California began operations as a regional online movie rental company. While the firm demonstrated that a market for online rentals existed, it was not financially successfully. Netflix lost over $11 million in 1998 and as a result significantly changed the business model in 2000. The new strategy included focusing on becoming a nationally based subscription model and focusing on enhancing the subscribers experience on their website. The change in strategic focus has allowed Netflix to grow into the largest online entertainment subscriptions service in the United States with over 6.3 million subscribers (Netflix).
Reed Hastings, co-founder of Netflix headquartered in Los Gatos, CA, began the company’s operations in 1997 after receiving an enormous late charge from a movie rental he returned long overdue. However, Hastings had the desire to be different than traditional movie outlets; whereas, customers had to drive to the location, pay a certain amount for each movie they rented, and were given a deadline in which to return the movie. Instead of using a method established by other video markets “to attract customers to a retail location, Netflix offered home delivery of DVDs through the mail” which eventually led to a booming business towards streaming forms of entertainment (Shih, Kaufman, & Spinola, 2009, p. 3). Today, Netflix exists along with several competitors; however, offers the most streaming content available for viewing, and continues to grow its subscriber base both domestically and globally. Although, direct and indirect competitors, acquisition costs, and several barriers present a financial threat for Netflix, the company has managed to grow with the acclamation of partnerships, expand to international territories, and vastly increase its price in shares of stock.

Additionally, Netflix and its competitors are attempting to enter the digital world.
Parental consent should be a major factor in determining if a teen should be allowed to watch rated R movies. “We all know what's right for our children” (A.O. Scott). Parents have lived with their children for most of the children's life and they understand how they act(their behavior) and based off of their behavior, they can decide what movies the child can and can’t watch. It is not wrongdoing for the parent to be deciding on your behalf. We actually can’t guarantee what the child is saying to the is true as “Children, more than critics, are receptive to anything that doesn’t bore them” (A.O. Scott).
A great example of this is Netflix. Netflix is an online site that holds tons of movies. People pay $8.99 a month to access these movies using their Netflix account. Many of the young adults who have this, have the ability to watch many different types of rated R movies whenever they want to. Since most young adults have access to rated r movies to begin with it would make sense if the theaters changed the purchase age.
Restricted or R-rated movies, are an omnipresent source of entertainment for adolescent and adults. Restricted movies are a source of entertainment and art as on par with Parental Guidance-13 (PG-13) and General (G-rated films). Teens exposed to content in R-rated movies create exposure to increase maturity. Young adolescents under the age of seventeen should be permitted to watch R-rated movies for the understanding that it is a form of entertainment and art. The legal age to be permitted to view Restricted films should be lowered to younger adolescents.
