Famous Person: Nelson Mandela
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela became the first black president of an independent South Africa in 1994 (Chasi, & Levy, 2016). Prior to this, he had been imprisoned for 27 years due to an attempt of ousting the pro-apartheid government. After his imprisonment, Mandela advocated for respect of human rights and developing the life of South African citizens. Nelson Mandela’s popularity grew wildly from his notable long struggle against bad governance and racial chauvinism (Pietersen, 2015). More importantly, he led his followers by continually guiding them to maintain peace and avoid violent behaviors and activities. During the fight against apartheid, Mandela portrayed utilitarianism leadership style by maintain morality and leadership values to carry on with the fight. As a consequence, the leader was recognized as a hero and freedom fighter and due to his determination in liberating the country, which he led as the first black President (Beresford, 2014, p.304). It is notable that his traits of morality and responsibility were integrated with honesty to cultivate spirit of togetherness among his followers. When confronted with challenging situations and arguments, Mandela faced his opponents by initiating effective communication and gave viable responses to their queries. As a good leader, Mandela established his leadership styles and with a visionary mind and inspired the people to follow better principles to attain their goals. Moreover, Mandela espoused democratic leadership style and demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities in tackling various issues. Through strong ethical principles, the president made South Africa and the whole world a better place to live through well articulated leadership style, and life lessons
