Feminism. It is a word that creates empowerment, controversy, caution, and encouragement all at the same time. Feminism is an important aspect of our society but, unfortunately, is always taken in a negative tone. In recent times, feminism has become a hot topic, especially after Emma Watson’s famous speech at the UN headquarters. Feminism is also often referred to as ‘modern feminism.’ A new trend and organization that is being introduced into the media as of recently are an organization called “Women Against Feminism”. This organization says its main purpose is to spread and-feministic and says that women should not be feminists who “blame men for their insecurities” (Women Against Feminism website.) This organization, clearly, is flawed. The organization fails to understand the concept and purpose of feminism and makes posts that are exactly what feminism is against. Feminism, as defined by the Oxford dictionary is “Advocacy of equality of the sexes and the establishment of the political, social, and economic rights of the female sex; the movement associated with this” (Oxford Dictionary). The definition itself calls for the equality of the sexes. Women Against Feminism is a flawed organization because it fails to understand the purpose of feminism, spreads anti-feminist ideals, and is not a good example to set for young girls and boys.
