“Eat healthy, live healthy”is one of the basic necessities for long life. Unfortunately, today’’s world has been adapted to the consumption of foods which has several adverse effects on health. Globalisation have greatly affected one’s eating habits and forced many people to consume fancy and high calorie fast foods, popularly known as ‘Junk foods (Shukla)’. Diseases like coronary artery disease and diabetes mellitus have seen a profound rise in United States of America and such unhealthy junk food consumption is one of the notable factors to its contribution. Cholesterol and salt are known to set off blood pressure, stroke and heart diseases in a chain. Excessive salts can affect functioning of kidneys. Excess fats and oils along with spices added in these foods act as an irritant to gastric mucosa leading to excess secretion of hydrochloric acid, landing in gastritis. Poor concentration is another result of fast food habit known to affect in immediate and medium term periods. When a sumptuous junk meal rich in oil is taken, there is a feeling of drowsiness and failure to concentrate. The junk food eating over a substantial period of time can drop blood circulation due to fat accumulation(Jeffery). A small study in 12 healthy men reported changes in the ability of skeletal muscle to process glucose after only five days on a diet rich in fatty processed foods. The researchers concluded that junk foods may lead to insulin resistance in the long term. This implies that fast food consumption may promote serious diseases in the body in long term such as diabetes as a result of insulin resistance, gastritis, lack of concentration.
