One of the oldest subjects to study is the nurture verse nature conflict. The nurture vs. nurture debate is the scientific, cultural, and philosophical debate about whether the human culture, behavior, and even their personality are caused primarily by nurture or nature. This debate is one of the oldest philosophical issues within psychology. The debate centers on contributions from genetic inheritance and from environmental factors leading to human development.
Nature refers to all the hereditary factors and genes that influence who we are, from our physical appearance to our personality characteristics. Nurture refers to all the environmental variables that impact who we are, including our early childhood experiences, how we were raised,

our social relationships, and our surrounding culture. A question to ask yourself; if a man abuses his family, it because he was raised and born with violent tendencies or is it because he learned them by overserving his own parents ways like their behavior.
I will help you figure out the answer to this question later on in this essay. A few examples of biologically determines characteristics or nature would be hair color, eye color, diseases, and skin color. Things like life span and height also have a big biological component, but they are influenced by environmental factors and lifestyles. Height is an example of a trait that is influenced by nurture and nature interaction. The child might come from a very tall family, and he might even inherit the genes of being tall. However, if he grows up in a bad household and doesn’t get the proper nourishment, the child might never attain the height he might have had if he was nourished properly. I have learned that today, the majority of experts believed that both nurture and nature influence behavior and even development. but it really difficult to decide whether a person’s development is predisposed in his DNA, or a majority of its influence by its life experiences and its environment. I learned something very important about heredity and it is “the heritability of a trait can vary from 0.00 to 1.00 depending on the environments from which research participants are sampled.” Heritability does depend on the amount of variability in the environment factors that contribute to a trait. Like I said before, nature refers to our innate potential that is influenced entirely by genetic and physiological factors. The biological approach towards nature would be focusing on genetics, hormonal, and neurochemical explanations of the behavior in something or someone. A list of things that have to do with nature is heredity, developmental disorders, congenital disorders, pre- natal development, genetics and genes, and biology (predispositions). Overall our behavior reflects a mixture or combination of both nurture and nature. The influences of nature consists of genes. My main point in this paragraph is to let the reader know that genetics is for nature and environmental conditioning is for nurture. Nurture comes from the environment. It is the environment surrounding us and it impacts the way our personalities and preferences develop. I learned that “nurture “and environment refer back to our city, home, and how we were raised by our parents, teachers, and peers. The phrase nurture and nature relates to the relative importance of an individual’s innate qualities. “Nurture” in the sense of behaviorism in causing individual differences, especially in behavioral traits. Nurture can be both a noun and a verb. Some of the definitions are development, nourishment, to raise, the daily food of something, to care for, give attention to, and to educate. Some synonyms to help us understand nurture a little bit more clearly are care, nutriment, provisions, upbringing, training, provender, instruction, and diet. I was a little confused about the subject “nurture” so I decided to look up some antonyms for it and they are deprivation, neglect, starvation and ignorance. Some differences between nature verse nature is that nature deals with stuff like eyes, hair color, height, brain functionality and it always stays the same. Nurture deals with stuff like hobbies, social life, morals, behaviors, and it can change, I also learned about some things they have in common and that would be things like how life, who we are, and decease. The last thing I really want to discuss is things that fall in to the category of nurture. Some of those things would be caregivers, education, culture, religion, nutrition, attachment, post-natal factors, cognition, and environment. Most psychologists believe that nature is hereditary and nurture is like environmental experiences. My conclusion for this paper is of course going to be like a debate and an understanding between two subjects, those subjects are nature and nurture.
As we already know, nature is the idea that traits or abilities are native or coded into human brains at birth. Nature is also referred to as nativism. Nurture on the other hand, is also known as empiricism or behaviorism. It is the idea that intelligence is obtained, not through birth, but experience. Scientists know that both nature and nurture affect a person’s future, but they don’t know how much each factor affects a person’s future. They have also figured out that when it comes to personality, environment is not a big factor. My biggest conclusion for this whole essay is that they both affect a person someway. The whole controversy between the two helps to determine who we are, whether it is nature, which is hereditary or if it is nurture, which is our environment. I didn’t really know this but personality is a result of evolutionary process. Human beings, inherit behaviors due to a complex interaction of genes. They also believe that they can sharpen their types of personality but can never fully change them. If you are on the nurture side then they believe that you are born with a blank slate at birth and your personality is nurtured. Radical psychologists such as Watson and Skinner claim that behavior can be described in terms of experience alone. After reading a lot about this subject I believe that genes and
environment both have a huge influence over how a child’s personality will end out being. It should no longer be argued over, it should be said that both nature and nurture work together to create a human being that is like no other. I am so glad that I took this course at Piedmont Technical college because I got the opportunity to research more about nature verse nurture, which was confusing at first but then it was like I wanted to keep going and learn as much as possible because we are human and we should be well educated about how our brain and body works. If you are still confused about the topic, just remember that things like your hair color, eye color, are topics dealt with in nature, while nurture is that your behavior is the result of learning and experience resulting from outside factors such as parents, media, peers, and religion. Nature is also called innate behavior and nurture is also called learned behavior.
The nature versus nurture theory is a way to distinguish whether certain traits or characteristics of individuals are impacted more by biological means or environmental means. What the “nature” part signifies in the the theory is that we are more impacted by heredity and biological effects of our personality and what defines us as a person. What “nurture” signifies is that environmental factors have a more powerful impact on our lives and personality. As we mostly know, most things aren’t black and white, and so it’s hard ro determine which type of factors is more effective. Most people believe that it’s a blend of both nature and nurture that makes us who we are.
The nature-nature debate is about whether an individual is influence more by his or her genetic inheritance or do environmental factors contribute towards one development. Those that argue that nature plays a major role in the development of a person...
The nature vs. nurture controversy is an age old question in the scientific and psychological world with both camps having evidence to support their theories. The controversy lies in which is more influential in the development of human beings. While there is no definitive answer for this, it is interesting to look at each of them separately.
Nature, which is also known as hereditary, is the genetic makeup (DNA) that an individual carries from birth until death. Hereditary characteristics are different in each individual, group and humans in comparison to other species. Nurture on the other hand refers to environmental factors and similar to nature, an individual is also exposed from birth until death. These factors involve elements such as physical environments (prenatal nutrition) and social environments (media and peer pressure). (Social Issues Referencing, 2007)
The argument of nature vs. nurture is a long-standing one in the psychological and social worlds. It is the argument about whether we are ruled by our genes or our upbringing. It is my thought that neither is true. It is nature working with nurture which determines our personality and our lifestyle.
Since the beginnings of psychology the debate of nature verses nurture has been going on. Certain psychologists take the position of the nature perspective. They argue that people are born with predispositions towards certain personalities, traits and other characteristics that help shape them into the people that they become later in life. Meanwhile multiple other psychologists argue the nurture perspective. They believe that people are born as a blank slate and their experiences over the course of life help shape their personalities, traits, and other characteristics.
...t shown physically, it plays a much bigger role. However, nature does not overpower the role of nurture, which is essential in establishing our behavior. Our genes and our experiences make us the people we are today. Both nature and nurture interact in a way that makes us unique. They are designed for each other. Nurture cannot work without nature, and nature cannot thrive without nurture.
Nature vs. Nurture Debate The controversy over what determines who we are, whether it is Nature. (hereditary, our biological makeup) or Nurture (our environment) is taking a new. shape. The sand is a sand. Over the past decades, psychologists have developed different theories to explain the characteristics of human beings; how we feel, think and.
Nurture is constituted by the influence of millions of complex environmental factors that form a child's character. Advocators of nature do not believe that character is predetermined by genes, but formed over time. Although often separated, nature and nurture work together in human development. The human conscience is neither innate from birth or entirely shaped through experience, instead, genetics and environmental influences combine to form human behavior, character, and personality traits that constantly change and develop throughout life. The debate on nature versus nurture has existed for thousands of years.
One of the hottest debates is and has been nature vs nurture for years, but what is the difference between the two? Nature is what people think of as already having and not being able to change it, in other words, pre-wiring (Sincero). Nurture is the influence of experiences and its environment of external factors (Sincero). Both nature and nurture play important roles in human development. Scientists and researchers are both trying to figure out which is the main cause in development because it is still unknown on which it is. The best position to side with is nature. Nature is also defined as genetic or hormone based behaviors (Agin). Regardless of the involvement in everyday life, or nurture, this argumentation centers around the effect genes have on human personalities. Although it is understandable on reasons to side with nurture, nature is the better stand in this controversy. Reasons to side with nature is because of genes and what genes hold. Genes is what

One of the most well-known debates in psychology is nature versus nurture. Nature is pre-determined traits, influenced by biological factors and genetics. Physical characteristics such as height, hair color, and eye color is all determined by the genetics we inherit. Nurture is the influence of environmental factors. Nature and nurture affects the physical, emotional, and social development of a child.
Nature is the word used to describe the biological aspects that shape behaviour, for example genes. Nurture is the word used to describe the social aspects that shape behaviour, for example interaction with parents. This essay will cover both sides of the argument referring to psychological theory. To start with the psychodynamic theory, this is defined, according to Dictionary.com as “The interaction of various conscious and unconscious mental or emotional processes, especially as they influence personality, behaviour, and attitudes”. This is a theory used on the side ...
Nature vs nurture debate is one of the oldest arguments in the history of psychology. It is the scientific cultural, and philosophical debate about whether human culture, behavior, and personality are caused primarily by nature or nurture. Nature and nurture are both equally important. They are the two are major influences that affect the person you grow to be and will determine what your children will be tomorrow. Nature refers to heredity, which are traits and features that are inherited from your parents and ancestors. At birth you, as a person, inherits 50% of each parent 's genetic material that are passed along through the chromosomes found in the DNA. Hair color, height, body type, and eye color are some examples of characteristics
Nature VS. Nurture is a very controversial topic from what I’ve learned is that nature is human instinct to learn, create and do. Nurture is to learn from another, like your mother, father or peer, and inherit their knowledge, as well as culture to carry on the creation from where they have stopped.
