In the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, Huck, the main character, abandons society and the corruption and chooses to surrender to nature instead. Huck sees nature as an escape from society and when he speaks about nature, his use of language gives us a sense of wonder and mystery. Huck has a belief that nature and distance from humanity are much more valuable than being “sivilized.” As Huck stares at outside the window, he feels lonely: “The stars were shining, and the leaves rustled in the woods ever so mournful; and I heard an owl, away off, who-whooing..., and a whippowill and a dog crying...; and the wind was trying to whisper something to me” (Twain 3).
