All of a sudden, he was running for his life. At least, that’s what it had felt like to him. After all, lacrosse was his life. He was playing for his future tonight. The second the ball went into play, he felt the familiar and almost comforting rush of adrenaline seeping into his veins. He chased after the ball like it was the only thing in the world that mattered, and right then, it was. Scouts from three different National Lacrosse League teams were here tonight in this stadium, all watching this game. His game. Tonight was his best and maybe only chance to prove that he was worth something, that he was more than just a nobody with anger issues and an attitude problem. Noah knew he was good at the game--- the unofficial-student-body-given
Lacrosse has progressed over the years from when it started as a religious practice by the Native Americans to the Canadians to the east coast to all around the world. The equipment, shoes, rules, and fields have changed in many different ways. The different ways that people can set up their defense and their offense is so broad that it is hard to describe. The original team set up was when the Indians played over expanses of 500 yard up to a mile. Then William George Beers created a club called the Montreal Lacrosse Club in eighteen fifty-six. Then about a decade later William George Beers produced a whole set of rules that included reducing the number of players to ten adding hitting penalties while also introducing a rubber ball and a new innovative plastic design for the lacrosse stick.
As his year went by Pat thought he had a high chance in playing college basketball so on the day of his first game as a senior Coach Mel Thompson from the The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. That night Conroy had an astonishing 22 pts which made up for his junior year where he left off on a rough note. Following the game, Coach Thompson came to the locker and was talking to Pat’s coach who he pointed out Conroy in the back changing which suddenly lead to Coach Thompson talking to Pat about how he would love to have him play at Citadel. As the year continued Pat had realized what an opportunity he had at playing college basketball but, he was perplexed as to why he had not received an offers from schools. That night Conroy went home to find his mother crying, Conroy formerly asked his mother “ why are you crying?” (Conroy 182) his mother’s response to him was “ I could not hold it in anymore Pat but, your father has ripped all of your scholarships.” (Conroy 182) from that moment on Pat’s attitude towards his father would change, meaning he was all on his own due to the fact that his mother was alongside his father. As Pat’s freshman year in college was coming he now realize as
The soccer field is the only place he is able to do this, not at school, not at home, and not in his community. Paul has to leave Lake Windsor to be able to play soccer in Tangerine. The kids in Lake Windsor are snotty, rich, and self-centered. But the kids in Tangerine are hard working, resourceful, and proud. During their first soccer game, Paul described the game as, “The Palmetto players got down and dirty right away, and their fans cheered them on.”
Every time I play lacrosse I feel like I am a part of something greater than myself. Being a part of something greater than myself, being changed in my life forever has made me think and feel whenever I play lacrosse. When I was younger playing lacrosse was a learning experience. Playing with more skilled or less skilled girls in lacrosse and playing different positions except for one every game, practice and scrimmage all the time makes me get a different perspective. Playing lacrosse for quick sticks has changed my life forever.
He didn’t waste a minute and started training the next week, a month before the actual preseason practices began. He hired a personal trainer to help him get ready for the preseason. His trainer was a lot more vigorous than the trainers at college had been. As he trained, he concentrated on other things so that the pain wouldn’t get to his mind. Damian’s dream had always been to be a star soccer player and to make his parents happy. The...

It all started freshman year of high school. I really wanted to get involved in some kind of sport or club. I couldn’t decide what to do. Many people said I should join the lacrosse team and my response was “I have never played before, how am I suppose to make the team”. I always had an interest in lacrosse however I was scared to go out and buy all the expensive equipment and not make the team.. I went home that night and asked my parents what I should do. My dad encouraged me to go out and try. He said it doesn’t hurt to try. That next morning of school, I raced to the athletic office and signed up for lacrosse, and when that bell rang after school I went to the lacrosse store nearest to me and bought all of the gear so that I could make the first tryout. The fist tryout was the day after I bought all of the gear.
As more of my teammates began to show up, I recognized most of them. However, I learned later that if I went on to play in the Spring, this would not be the same exact team I would play with. With only twenty minutes until we began,I put on all of my gear and my dad gave me a thorough warm up. Time seemed to fly by, and before I knew it, everyone was gathered together as positions were being assigned. I was originally overwhelmed with excitement, but as the game drew closer, the joy I had felt was replaced with anxiety. The lacrosse game taking place before ours ended and we entered and took our place on our bench. I recognized the opposing team’s jerseys quickly and identified them as a travel team from our area. Taking one final breath, I rushed into the lacrosse net enjoying my bird’s eye view, unsure of what was to
Lacrosse is the oldest team sport in North America, having been played by Native American tribes long before any European had even set foot on the continent. A century after European missionaries discovered the game played by Native Americans, they began to play it themselves, starting in the 18th century. From there, it evolved and grew in popularity from a very savage game that resembled war, into what it is today, a recreational sport played widely in America and other countries. As U.S. Lacrosse literature aptly puts it "Lacrosse is a game born of the North American Indian, christened by the French, adopted and raised by the Canadians, and later dominated by the Americans.”
As Paige and I walked across the field towards our team I felt euphoric. Four long years of work, sweat, and dedication had led up to this night. It was the perfect end to my senior year of softball. The scoreboard just beyond the mass of sweaty, screaming softball players read 15-0. This was the final score of the district championship game, a game my team had never won before. The applause and cheers of the fans echoed in my ears for hours afterward
It was Cyprowski’s first football practice with his new team at his new college. This practice was intense and it was hot. It was a division one school with division one athletes and Cyprowski was the smallest little guy on the team. Being the smallest guy, it’s tough standing out, but one thing he had going for him was being quick. Cyprowski was always the first guy to the ball and when he couldn’t do that anymore, he knew something was wrong.
We were going to win the game. That was the end of it. I knew it. We were the winners of that game. I stood up and yelled in a voice that even frightened me. I didn’t scream about moving our feet, or calling the ball, I screamed about how big of winners we were. I was done with moping. For seven minutes of my life, I had forgotten that I could do anything I set my mind to, and I had given up. The worst seven minutes of my volleyball career were those seven minutes in the third game of the final match at Brighton Volleyball Tournament. I had put my determination down to wallow in my disappointment. Disappointment needs to build determination. I had decided a long time ago that there were certain things in life that I could do better than other people. Those were my gifts. I use my gifts to my full potential.
When the Seminole children had time they played otherwise they were either at school or helping around the chickees. Most Seminole children also went hunting and fishing with their fathers when they had time. One of the games the Seminoles played was stickball which is lacrosse in American culture. The Seminole women were farmers and they also did most of the childcare and cooking. Both genders took part in storytelling, artwork, music, and traditional
Lacrosse should it become an official high school sport? As this topic comes in many states in the nation there is a huge controversy in the world of lacrosse. Many states on the east coast have made it an school sport, but that really do us people in the midwest now does it? Just in the last couple of years the NAIA has made lacrosse and official school sport. Which is a huge deal for people like me who would like to play at the next level but don’t have the money to play in the NCAA. There is twenty two states in the United States that has recognized lacrosse as an official school sport. Missouri is not one of those states however. The lack of funding in the high schools in the state of Missouri is what is preventing the sport grow at the pace it should be growing, the amount of teams, and the lack of coaches. Missouri State High School Activities Accusations or also known as MSHSAA should make lacrosse a recognized school sport so that the sport can keep growing at the rate it is.
As I saw the wind blow through the grass, I thought about how I wanted this game to be the best one. I tasted the anger in my mouth as I heard the ref blow her whistle. She had long, red, hair tied up in a ponytail. The ref pointed in the direction of our goal, and I gulped. The entire Saline Field Hockey team rushed away in fear of breaking the rule of 5 yards.
