Can you imagine if you served your country, and our citizens don't show any respect to the country? Many people have been protesting the flag and the country. They are doing this by kneeling during the National Anthem, turning their back to the flag and sitting or not participating in the Anthem. These athletes and people need to understand where there are living and that they need to respect the Flag, soldiers and the country because the United States might start setting some rules that you have to respect our country or you leave. Also this creates drama across the world which is not good. Instantly, people think because this is a free country they aren't forced to do anything. However, soldiers choose to serve for our country so we can have a safe …show more content…
life but these people don't realize they disrespect the military when not participating in the National Anthem. For example, when other citizens on social media see that professional players aren't standing for the anthem, they reply with anger wanting them to leave the country.” You're a disgrace”,”Leave our country”.
( - Lonnie Bunch, David Skorton.) After one person kneels or doesn't stand during the anthem, many more decide to do it causing a chain which is bad for our country. More and more athletes are starting to do this and the league is taking action and not allowing them to play. Another example is “the then- 21-year-old senior guard on the Manhattanville College women's basketball team, who expressed her opposition to the Iraq War in 2003 by turning her back on the flag.” (-Lonnie Bunch, David Skorton.) This young women guard wanted to represent her country by turning her back to the American Flag when she is playing for the U.S. She wanted to represent Iraq in the 2003 war by turning her back to the flag and not participating in the Anthem. This should be unexpectable in the U.S. If someone is from a different country they should praise their country before or after the game instead of disrespecting ours. Citizens and athletes of the U.S should just respect the flag if you're playing here no matter where you are
from. In summary, people need to start to have some respect if you are playing for our country. They are representing us and their job is to play but some decide to lose their job by this. This causes anger and drama throughout the world. No matter if you like, dislike, love or hate our president or you are from a different country you should still respect the flag, our country and president if you are representing.
First of all, kneeling the National Anthem is an ineffective and, counterproductive way to promote a cause. Knelling for the National Anthem isn't going to change anything besides lowering the rates on TV and getting negative comments online. Football coach Dabu Swinney said "I don’t think it's good to be a distraction to your team. I don’t think it's good to use your team as the platform." Patti Armstrong States that" you don’t get respect from showing disrespect." Philadelphia Eagles support the protest but disagree with the way he did so. Kneeling for the National Anthem is not a proper way to protest police brutality for colored ("Refusing"). These are some of the few reasons kneeling for the national anthem is an ineffective way of protesting.
The issue of being unpatriotic during the National Anthem was raised by people when NFL quarterback, Colin Kaepernick decided to kneel during the national anthem before a preseason game. Later, Kaepernick addressed the media by saying this act was a stance against “police brutality on people of color”. By raising the
In both 1984 and Anthem we have two major plotlines that mirror each other: a man and a
In Anthem there are so many rules and controls, yet there is one that truly rises above it all. And that word is “I”. There is no “I” only “We”, for the great “We” is what they follow. And they are one not individual, they are one. And poor Equality can’t seem to understand that the rules are rules, but in a way he’s making his own rules. And he is mistreated for his looks and appearance and dosen’t seem really one with his brothers. And he’s curious and most don’t even question life, and he notices the little things, “Yet as we stand at night in the great hall, removing our garments for sleep, we look upon our brothers and we wonder. The heads of our brothers are bowed. The eyes of our brothers are dull, and never do they look one another in the eyes. The shoulders of our brothers are hunched, and their muscles are drawn, as if their bodies were shrinking and wished to shrink out of sight. And a word steals into our mind, as we look upon our brothers, and that word is fear.”(Rand 46). He has a wanting to learn and build his knowledge, but the rules don’t permit his decisions.
It seemed that the majority of Americans disagreed on how they were doing it. That they use sports as a get away from the real world, a three to four hour break from reality and all of the problems that might be going on in their own lives. Most people that you talk to that disagree with the protest all say the same thing. “If I did something like that at work I would get fired, it is a double standard”. “When you protest the American flag, you are disrespecting our troops”.
Totalitarianism can be defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as the centralized control by an autocratic authority. The leaders of these societies are obsessed with complete control and will take whatever steps necessary to reach such a goal. In many totalitarian societies, children are separated from their families. This is enforced on the citizens because rulers want them to be loyal to the government only. Such living arrangements can be portrayed in Ayn Rand’s novel, Anthem. In Anthem, the narrator, Prometheus, lives in a community in which all of the children born that year live in the same house until they turn fifteen. Then they are assigned a job and live with the people that share that occupation. This keeps the people from having an emotional attachment to someone like they would have with a family.
Anthem is a story of man’s struggle to be free and to fight the masses of conformity. It tells of human nature and the want to gain all the knowledge that one could possibly attain. Man loses his safe haven and his security when he lets this lust for knowledge overpower him and lets it be seen by others. He becomes vulnerable Like Johann Faust, Prometheus sells his life for wisdom. Unlike Faust, however, Prometheus is expelled from his society but gains his freedom of individuality and his freedom of knowledge and the ability to understand. In Anthem, Prometheus and Gaea sin against society to become singular and understanding much like Adam and Eve’s sin against God when they ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge to gain wisdom; as a result, they can be compared to each other by there desire for learning and by their damnation.
As one reads Ayn Rand’s significant quotes from the story of anthem, there is always a main theme that is trying to escape, just as Prometheus escaped in her story. All three of the listed quotes work as a trio to sing that We; as society, works to defeat individuality. The quotes emphasize that we cannot survive without individualism and being alone brings out our unique personalities. It is true that all the quotes work as one, but at the same time they have their own individualism. Each quote holds a purpose of its own and the author wants to express the quote to each persons understanding.
Some have seen friends and family get tortured and murdered by their own government for daring to do things we take for granted every day. For those who risked everything simply for the chance to become an American....what kind of feelings do they have for the flag when they Pledge Allegiance the first time? Go to a naturalization ceremony and see for yourself, the tears of pride, the thanks, the love and respect of this nation, as they finally embrace the American flag as their own. Ask one of them if it would be OK to tear up the flag.
This protest began on August 26, 2016 when Colin Kaepernick, a former quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, first took a seat on the sideline bench at a preseason game during the National Anthem. Later he transitioned to kneeling alongside his standing teammates. The reason behind Kaepernick’s protest was to draw attention to racial injustice and police brutality in the United States against African Americans. After the public noticed Kaepernick’s revolt, a national discussion sparked. Many people think that kneeling during the National Anthem was not the most respectful approach Kaepernick could’ve taken. The certain group of people that
All of these points are plain examples of why standing up for the pledge of allegiance is just a waste of time. Give respect where respect is due. Personally, I don’t believe we should stand and respect a country that’s doesn’t do the same for us as Americans. They disgrace other cultures, and put people down who don’t meet their standards of “America”. America isn’t the same, we have more diversity here and we can do nothing but accept it. Torturing people and telling them they 're not good enough to live here makes people hate us more and want to kill us. Abolishing the pledge of allegiance would be an eye opener and maybe these patriotic Americans can see that and make a change.
Being an American comes with great opportunities and freedoms. One of those freedoms is a person’s right to fly the American Flag. Not only is this a right that many Americans express, I believe it is one that they should. There are many reasons that the American flag should be flown, and one of those reasons is to support our current troops. All of our troops are fighting for our freedom. They go day to day doing all they can to keep this country safe. These troops leave everything they have at home, including their loved ones, just to fight for our country. The least we can do, as the people they are fighting for, is show some respect by flying the flag of their country. On top of the current troops, flying the flag shows gratitude to those who have fought and have returned home. I am sure it is one of the greatest feelings coming home after being away for so long. Not every soldier's experience is a good one, but if they get to return home, they deserve to be thanked for their sacrifice. Those who do come home on good terms at the end of a tour, also deserve to see the flag flying, thanking them and showing them the gratitude of their country. Along with current and past
This caused an uproar throughout twitter and many NFL teams. They began kneeling some not even exiting the locker room. Men and Woman have sacrificed their lives just so that flag can be hanging before, during, and after ever game. If Trump would've just kept his mouth shut this wouldn't have been such a big controversy.
Do you respect our country? Do I have respect for my country? I do! Respect is a responsibility. My responsibility is to respect the flag that this country proudly owns. To stand with my right hand placed over my chest as the flag stands before me. To say the Pledge of Allegiance. My responsibility to my country is to make sure that the flag is to never touch the ground. When the flag is so worn that it no longer serves as a symbol of our country, it is my responsibility to my country to make sure that it is destroyed in an appropriate manner.
Admittedly, waving the flag and singing the national anthem are not wrong things to do. These actions promote unity and raise moral. However, love for the country can be focused in ways that are much more productive. "Patriotism can no longer be defined by whether you think this is the greatest country in the world" (Gesford, 1). An act of patriotism must accomplish something. Making a personal sacrifice is an example. Donating money or joining the army would certainly benefit the country more than waving a flag.
