The loyalty of an individual to another individual, a country, an organization, or a variety of other things, can be very powerful, and can drive the loyal subject to do much for whatever he or she is loyal to. Loyalty is often called a positive force, and is commonly said to invoke diligence, integrity, honesty, and other positive human qualities. Loyalty can amalgamate humankind, creating great nations and civilizations. The loyalty of a man or woman to work for the greater good of others can be very positive. In excess, however, loyalty can be dangerous, as those fanatically loyal enough to other people or organizations are often willing to violate their moral and ethical standards for the person or organization they are loyal to. …show more content…
Loyalty should be exercised carefully, and each individual should thoughtfully consider what he or she should invest faith and loyalty to. When one is loyal, he or she is often willing to make personal sacrifices for others.
A famous example of this in history was Nathan Hale. Nathan lived in Britain in the 1700s, a time when the American government was struggling greatly to obtain independence from Great Britain. Hale was secretly a member of the American intelligence department, and at the risk of being killed, relayed British troop movements and strategies to the American government. When he was eventually caught in 1776, Hale famously stated before his execution, “I only regret I have but one life to give for my country”. Hale’s selfless dedication to his country ultimately helped to create a new nation of freedom, and better the lives of many people. His heroism was inspired by loyalty, and it was this that improved the lives of many. This proves that loyalty can inspire people to do selfless, positive …show more content…
acts. Loyalty is not always positive, as history can prove. In the 1940s, a massive conflict erupted in Europe. Not only were 80 million people killed in the conflict, two thirds of the Jewish population of Europe were killed in the largest genocidal act in history. This was known as World War II. One of the things that made this atrocity possible, was loyalty. Germany was the main perpetrator of World War II, and was led by a man named Adolf Hitler. Hitler was able, through propaganda and threats, make the people of his country so fanatically loyal, they were willing to kill millions of innocent people. The loyalty of the German people incited them to commit many egregious acts. Had they not developed any loyalty to Hitler, this would most definitely not have occurred, and World War II would have been avoided. This example proves that loyalty can be manipulated to be a tool of great evil. Another example of the dual function of loyalty can be discerned in the Bible.
Jesus Christ, the son of god, walked the Earth to vindicate His Father and His Father’s work as that of love and kindness. Jesus’s unnerving loyalty to God and unwillingness to change his beliefs to accommodate those of the Romans, who opposed him, ultimately led his crucifixion. Jesus’s loyalty was strong enough to cost him his life, however, in dying, he absolved mankind of their sins and wrongdoing. According to the Bible, Jesus died for the sins of man, and became far greater after proving his devotion. Thus, this loyalty brought about both death and liberation. This biblical example demonstrates the binary nature of loyalty, and proves it can have both positive and negative
effects. One can observe times in both history and fiction when loyalty has had many different outcomes. Through careful contemplation, one should place loyalty on a case by case basis. Moderation of loyalty is also important. When loyalty is applied to a positive person or organization, it can inspire many virtues, such as honesty, faith, and diligence. One should ensure they do not become overzealous and violate their morals out of loyalty to something or someone. One should be aware of the nature of loyalty and make educated choices about where he or she places loyalty in his or her life.
Loyalty is one of the ethics that is instilled in a person at a young age. Loyalty can range from loyalty to a family member, friend, teammate, ect. In Larry Watson's, Montana 1948, the summer of 1948 tests the loyalty of each character and is told through the eyes of a young boy, David. The picture was clear to David when Marie was Murdered. Through this tragic event David was able to read each family member determining whether they were loyal or whether they would betray.
A very obvious example of loyalty is, Penelope. She is faithful to Odysseus for over 20 years and does not give up for long time. Even when the suitors came to her house and ate her food and overstayed their welcome she did not budge and still stayed faithful to Odysseus for the whole time he was gone. She told the suitors that when she finished her tapestry she would choose who she wants to marry, but every night she would undo a piece of the tapestry just so it would take longer and it would give Odysseus more time to come back just so she would not have to choose one of the suitors.
Nathan Hale was born on June sixth, 1755, in Coventry, Connecticut. Richard Hale and Elizabeth Hale were his parents. Nathan had nine siblings. Enoch Hale was the most acknowledged sibling of Nathan Hale. Education was important to both of them. In addition to learning, Nathan was interested in wrestling, football, broad jumping, and women. Resources state that he was “the idol of all his acquaintances”, which was the reason for everyone’s admiration for him. This was one important part of Hale’s remembrance.
Loyalty allows people to make sacrifices in order to protect the ones that are deat to them. In the book The Chrysalids written by John Wyndham, there are individuals willing to die for one another just to keep each other safe from the society trying to hunt them down.
In the Bible, God, sacrifices his only son, a respectable, revered "heavenly" figure, allowing Jesus to live amongst sinful people. In human form, Jesus treats the common people's illnesses and performs miracles to help them; above all, he cares for them and loves them. Jesus is selfless, endlessly devoting himself to helping and serving others, and ensuring that they will have a better life by showing them "the way" to God. Jesus sacrifices his life in heaven to come to Earth and help his people.
The traditional Christian answer to why God allowed the death of Christ is for the absolution of humanity’s sin. However, this begs the question, as an omnipotent God why was it necess...
Many subjects have been spoken of over the history human beings. For some time it may have a world war, at other times a great recession, in another day it would have been a very fast athlete, at others the final match of Champions League and many more. Yet in all these occurrences that grip the human mind for some time there is no occurrence more spoken than the crucifixion of a man called Jesus Christ (Zugibe 33). His crucifixion has even been a study for the entire lifetime of many people. Institutions have been built primarily for the purpose of studying this crucifixion. Some have said this crucifixion has changed their lives. Others have retorted that it has lifted off their worries. It is widely known and embraced. However, aside from all this, with all the goodness this man Jesus Christ is preached to have, many wonder why he would be killed on a cross.
The Roman soldiers pierced a spear through his left side, after He was brutally and horrifically beaten. The spear which was pierced on His side caused a sudden release of blood and water from His body. He was crucified between two robbers, and died a humiliating death that was ever invented in the history of humanity and yet He did not open His mouth against them, instead, He said father, forgive them for they know not what they do (Luke 23:34). He was in obedience and did not retaliate against His enemies because He was ready to suffer for the sins of all humanity whom He had created and loved before the foundation of the world (1 Peter 2:22-25). He empty Himself from everything, and condescended very low and died in the most ignominious way for the sins He did not commit. He was severely punished and abased like a meanest felon. Through His death, He atoned for our sins and undo its influence and malignity. He loved the world so much that He gave Himself willing to save us and break the curse of sin and death. Jesus is a warrior, it takes one who possessed the mental and physical strength of a warrior to handle and go through such cruelty that He went through (John 3:16-18; John 6:22-26; Luke 22:44, Mark 14:10-65, Mark chapter 15, Matthew chapter 27, John chapter 19, Luke chapter 23, John 19:34, Isaiah 52:14; 54:1-5, 2 Corinthians 5:21; Isaiah 50:6; 53:3-12; Psalm 22:18; Hebrews
Just think about that for a second. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, part of the Trinity, and the one God gave the world over to as a gift, became mortal, defied temptation, and ended up dying in a very painful, humiliating, and shameful way, in which God had to turn away. Just try and prove that we mere humans don't matter to God if He did all of that just so we could live with Him in heaven when we die! The love He showed us through that sacrifice was great. A sacrifice no human-being would be able to do because the cost was just too
God won’t ever ask us to physically die for the world, but through Jesus willingness to come into this world as a baby, growing up and serving, Jesus loved God, doing everything he told him, even when it meant dying. And he loved us as himself as he died to save our lives though it meant he would lose his.
Patriotism’s narrow definition is the love or devotion to one’s country. In America, patriotism has evolved from its founding principle to become a value in American lives. This leads to many Americans having loyalty as a core American virtue. It made Americans connote the word patriotism with loyalty. To be loyalty to the country is to be patriotic; therefore, if one is not patriotic then they by definition they are not loyal to the country. This ultimatum of sorts, breaks Americans into two categorizes—Authoritarian Patriots and Democratic Patriots. The people who believe if someone is not patriotic then, they are disloyal are authoritarian patriots and it “is a resigning of one's will, right of choice, and need to understand to the authority” (Westh...
Loyalty is one of the only things that can hold the bonds of family and friends.
Jesus worked tirelessly to teach humanity about the love of God instead of the fear of God that was not compatible with the true nature of God (book of Luke). Jesus was opposed to the concept of atonement to appease an angry God. Atonement is the belief in the sacrifice of an innocent life as reparation for
Loyalty is in a persons life whether they know it or not. A person can be loyal to family, friends, country, or even just ideas and beliefs. The list of loyalties vary depending on what you value. In TheDailyStar article “Female UAE fighter pilot leads airstrikes on ISIS” and Antigone by Sophocles show prime examples of loyalty. The female pilot challenges the traditional role women have in her country and Antigone challenges the power of the state to interfere with the traditions of her family and culture.
Jesus Christ lived a sinless life even up to his death by crucifixion. Far from being a way of appeasing a wrathful God for the sins of Mankind the Crucifixion is really an example of God's love toward us. Consider Romans 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.". At first this seems slightly strange: how was God's love manifested towards us through the Crucifixion?
