“Claire wake up, Bailey’s waiting for her morning walk!” I bolt out of my bed and rush to my closet in search for some comfy sweatpants. Finally, I find a pair, they were Morgans, I’m not quite sure why she left them for me… Don’t college girls wear sweats on basically every day of the week? Bailey begins to scratch at the door, “Bails I’ll be ready in just a sec.” I run down the stairs, Bailey scampering in tow behind me, to the small of fresh Belgian waffles topped with homemade brown sugar peaches and decadent whipped cream, “Wow Mom, you’re cooking like it’s my birthday or something!” Ever since my dad left us, my mom has been pretty distraught, so I guess today is a unique day… I grab my coat and Bailey’s shabby pink leash and head for
On one of the humid Louisiana evenings, walking around campus, just managing to adapt to the Helter skelter of college life, I just found my day’s Prometheus. Running across the street, I see three guys with bodies that looked like they were molded by Michelangelo himself. These athletes, who are dressed up as much as Tarzan, toil in the sun indifferent to the onlookers passing by. I was confused about my thoughts at that moment. Was I jealous, amazed or inspired? I wasn’t sure looking at those perfect bodies that I had always wanted. These sculpted gentlemen with David-esque bodies, who are indifferent to the curious, awed and shocked eyes of numerous onlookers, run around campus toiling for various reasons; personal
Arriving at Lacey’s house I walk to the backdoor letting myself into the house. Lacey was putting on tanning lotion in the kitchen, “Lacey,” I called to her, “my mom wants me to pick up snacks for the beach, do you want to go into town with me?”, “Sure,” she replied, “do you mind if my cousin comes with us?”, “Of course I don’t mind,“ I answered, “but we have to get moving, my dad only left me the car to use ‘til noon.”
Every day she came dressed for school in brilliant colored leggings partially covered by a relaxed sweatshirt unevenly rolled at the sleeves. Her plump belly took shape under her shirts, creasing slightly, like a curtain conforming to its width. Her feet plowed into her white Keds and snuggled inside fluorescent socks scrunched at the ankle. Mary Beth’s Keds curved toward each other as she stepped, and it was evident she was pigeon-toed. (This was another characteristic we loved to imitate.) I saw her ferociously sprint during gym and on our Field Day. It was dreadful. Her leg stampeded into each other in an effort to run straight. Her arms flung back and forth anxiously like an ape’s, and I could see her tongue sticking out of her crooked mouth in determination. She was hopeless.
High school is typically a time when kids begin to distinguish themselves from one another. Students begin to develop their own sense of personal style, desperately trying to both fit in and stand out simultaneously. Being self-conscious and often lacking the confidence needed to assert themselves, teens are forced to use clothing and outward appearance as the means to manifest this individuality. Thus, students should not be forced to wear uniforms to school. Standard uniforms are unproven deterrents to student violence; are a "Band-Aid" to cover up the real problems faced by children and teens; and they violate students' right of self-expression, depriving them of their search for identity.
She was standing by the closet slowly picking out her outfit for the day. “Sorry, but I don’t feel like being a bum for three months,” She said. I could hear the snottyness in her voice. Slowly I pushed the blankets down and crawled out of bed. Not a very good start to my summer. Groggily, I got dressed and trudged to the kitchen to get some breakfast. I guess I
It's seven o'clock and Megan's alarm has just gone off. Up out of bed and into the closet she goes to find her wardrobe for the morning. The closet door opens to sunlight shining through the open blinds inside the large walk-in closet. To the left and right are haning masses of pink clothes, dresses, jeans, and, in one corner, a couple of employee tee shirts for the movie theare and some black work pants. Se carefully selects her favorite pink halter top, a lighter pink jacket, and a denim skirt. "Time to meet my public," she says to herself.
I sprinted as fast as I could, my legs going numb underneath me, to the locker room; Sadie hollered “WE’RE GOING TO BE LATE!!”. When we finally arrived at the locker room, I grabbed the cold silver handle, a shiver spreading throughout my whole body, and yanked the door open. The smell of sweaty socks and vanilla perfume wafted into nose; it was atrocious. I threw my heavy backpack, filled with books and homework, onto the concrete floor. I quickly took my clothes off and put on a Jenison football t-shirt, black softball pants, and green softball socks. I zoomed over to the closet in the locker room that we keep our bat bags in.
Choosing what to wear for the day. This is what most students are thinking about when they wake up. Students need the latest fashion in order to fit in, but some clothing may not be acceptable to wear in school. School dress codes are denying students their right to dress how they want, but the dress code is important for the students and their learning. Students are beginning to stand up and want to be heard. Some students are taking action and want the dress code to become less strict but some schools are doing the opposite for safety issues and for the students healthy learning environment. Dress codes are important for a strong and healthy learning environment and is also reducing violence in many schools around the country.
Marcus already ate and he decided to go out hang around but when he did that he bumped into girl named Bella and he told her, ‘’I’m so sorry are you okay.’’ She replied, ‘’I’m okay and you got to look out ok, and you’re forgiven.’’ ‘’ I’m Marcus what’s your name.’’ Marcus said. ‘’I’m Bella.’’ She said. ‘’Wow that’s a beautiful name.’’ He said. ‘’Thanks I appreciate it.’’ She said. ‘’Your welcome.’’ He said. ‘’Well I have to go ok see you later, bye.’’ She said. ‘’Bye, see you later.’’ He said. They both left to their parents. Marcus went to his room all happy and his mother was surprised about Marcus, because she didn’t know what going on with Marcus and Lucy didn’t know either about Marcus being happy and all. Marcus was all happy and then Martha came to his room and said,’’ Why are you acting strange.’’ Marcus couldn’t say anything because he couldn’t stop dreaming of Bella when he first met her when they both bumped into each other. Marcus slept a little too early dreaming of Bella and his mother just ignored him when he was sleeping. When Martha saw him sleeping she was just happy and then she went to her room and then she looked and her family photo and kept thinking of her husband Mark. She said ‘’Oh Mark I wish you were here right now with us.’’ Martha went to the kitchen and saw Lucy asleep in the kitchen, when Martha saw her she carried Lucy to her room
As soon as I returned home and opened the front door, I was captivated by the aroma of cooked dinner from the kitchen, the smell of freshly cooked dumplings seemed to lift the stress and strain I had after an entire day of work at school. My mother greeted me with a radiant smile and handed me a bowl of dumplings. I was intoxicated with the crispiness of the crust and the tastiness of the stuffing wrapped beneath. Touched by my mother’s thoughtfulness and her awesome cooking skills, I threw my arms around my mother, hugging her tightly and enjoying the close relationship between mother and
I rose on a Saturday morning pondering what I would do today. I got out of bed, then put on gloves to wipe off the dust that had settled on my bedside table. It always puzzled me how so much dust could gather in only a one night period. I got dressed in my favorite garment and bow tie. My mom thought that it was an odd combination, but I thought it was quite nice—Bow ties are cool. I put on one of my many fedoras, then opened the door that led straight into our kitchen. “Would you like some breakfast, Dear?” My mother asked. “No, thank you,” I said politely. “Did you know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day?” She said. “You can’t miss it.” “Yes, mom, everyone knows that. I’m not hungry.” I said as I walked out of the kitchen. “I’m going to the library,” I
“You are worrying about that bag of make-up? Wow, I thought you knew she was jealous,” I said. With that the bell rang but Ashrell seemed more confident. 5th period came and went without a hitch but when I walked into creative arts everything was different. A soft, deep string instrument was humming, a pine tree forest in wax was on the center table, a cool breeze blew into the hallway. It felt like home to me, I looked around the classroom and found Ashrell being cornered by Cathey. I blew my top, I could hear their conversation and I should have known she would try to get back at Ashrell for being better than her.
I pulled up to the front door of the two story house that glowed with the orange and yellow sunset behind it. With every slow step I took the thought of the Spencer and Lauren not liking me became more surreal. They were only two and four, but somehow their opinion mattered a lot to me. I got to the front door step and I admired the bright purple and red tulips that were flourishing in the lawn, and all of a sudden the door swung open. “You are early,” my future boss, Jennifer said with a surprised look on her face. I had not noticed, but she was right, I was twenty minutes early. When we met at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library she mentioned that she was always running late and that is was something she needed to work on.
Have you ever considered why students should wear a school uniform? For a long time, scholars have debated worldwide, whether students should wear a school uniform or not. After a lot of research, I can evidently see that people still have diverse opinions about this subject as some people think school uniform is essential, some are just fine with its existence, and some think it is useless.
I exited the shower shivering, the sizzling smell of mouthwatering eggs and bacon hit me. My stomach was growling to eat. I quickly ran to the kitchen and grabbed a plate and told my mom “Thank you” as I kissed her on the cheek. “You’re welcome baby” she replies as she poured me a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice. I ate as fast as I could because I didn’t want to risk being late. I go in my room and put on my socks,
