Throughout my life I've seen a lot of different reasons people go to church or look to God for help, according to the way they grew up and their cultural beliefs and traditions. Some occasionally go to church on holidays like Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, New Years Eve, or maybe once a year for Communion. Some maybe turn to God when a loved one gets sick or hurt, or maybe some don't even attend church or never have attended or even believe that there is God. In the grand scheme of things God and church are something people don't care about or quickly forget about. Before the Christmas of 2009, my family and I never cared about giving God time. Growing up my family and I would never go to church; we lived in our own little world. We were …show more content…
It was Christmas night and I was in Texas away from my family for the holidays. While celebrating and enjoying the night, and I suddenly got a call from my Mom. I answered and all I heard was her crying over the phone. Desperately I yelled and I asked her what was wrong and she told me that Dad just got in an accident. I couldn't believe what I had heard. He was driving home from work and his car slipped on black ice which caused my dad to lose full control of his car. Going 70 mph his car went off the road and he crashed into a iron railing that would stop him from going into a ditch. The collision caused the car to be totally destroyed. We couldn't believe that he survived that night. It was a miracle that God made. He spent his Christmas night in a hospital bed, but he was alive. The fact that we almost lost him that night would change me and my families life …show more content…
After seeing such a miracle of our father surviving that crash it was unexplainable. We were grateful because we knew that it was only God that saved him that night. If it wasn't for God our father wouldn't be here. My mother would have raised four kids by herself. Being the oldest son I would've had to take the place as the man of the house that I would never be able to replace. The effects of this event really hit our hearts and at that moment we went from never acknowledging God to being grateful every single day from that point on. After his recovery we all began going to church. It took sometime to get used to on my end but eventually it became something I truly valued in my life. Especially still having that thought of my dad not being alive and here with me made it that much easier to thank god everyday I had
In today’s society, there are roughly around 4,200 religions that exist on this planet. Some define "religion" as a cultural system of behaviors and practices that help people make important decisions in life. Out of the many religions, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism have many similarities that connect them to one another. Themes of morality, justice, love are found through both the Buddha's teaching and the Hebrew and Christian Bible.
Over the next few days, we took it easy. I went back to work. My mom was getting worse as each day went on with a few good days in between, of course. We ended up moving my niece Lexi’s birthday up a few days because we wanted to make sure my mom would be there for it. She, my mom, couldn’t talk as well anymore, but she made the effort to sing for her granddaughter. The day before my niece’s actual birthday, my mom passed away. Her wish had come true, too. She had wanted my dad to be the only one in the room when she went.
Though my heart was still broken, my soul damaged, and my faith shaken, I was overwhelmed with gratitude that I didn’t lose my brother in that accident as well. Life is different without my dad, it is often hard
Scholars have been trying to come up with a well-founded, acceptable and universal definition of religion for years; however, none of these definitions so far are a perfect fit for all religions of the world. There are many things in our life that are well defined and well understood but, unfortunately, religion is not one of them. There is no common ground and understanding of what religion really means. Religion is what we make of it, so no one can truly define religion in a way that is meaningful across all borders as it is outside of the realm of reason and rationale and the definitions we give could be either too exclusive or inclusive.
What is Christianity and why has it been able to develop into a continuously growing and evolving religion?
The religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are alike in many ways but they also share many differences. Judaism and Christianity use the bible in their holy scriptures, while Islam does not. Jesus Christ is a part of all three religions as Christianity and Islam developed from Judaism. Many believe that the three religions worship, pray to, and focus on the same god. They believe this as many of the prophets are they share much in common as they share many beliefs. However, the followers of the three religions pray differently and in different places. the religions believe that their god created the world and everything in the world. The three Abrahamic religions have different histories, yet they share many similarities and difference.
Religion can become a controversial topic in any conversation. The reason being is that any follower of a religion holds their beliefs as the most holy and real to them. More specifically religion is a system of beliefs and rules used to worship a god, many gods, or a form of higher power. Every intricate detail of a religion makes it unique and special; from prayer to worship and everything that follows. I feel that now I can hold an intellectual conversation without feeling ignorant. I also believe religion can be viewed from many perspectives; philosophical are theological just two examples. I say this because I got to see how religion tied in very well with an Ethics class I am taking in conjunction to this one. Although these philosophers did not get deep into religion I was able to make a connection from a different point of view. There are many topics that are parallel to religion, for example virtues
Religion plays an enormous role in the history of mankind. Wars have been fought over it, lives have been surrounded by it, and it has directly or indirectly shaped the lives of many individuals. Culture and religion play a large role in developing each other. People’s religion is decided by their culture. The prominence or the lack of religion will develop someone’s religious identity have play a core role in determining what that person believes.
INDTRODUCTION “Sex and Religion”? Those two don’t really go hand in hand,” commented a freshman student from UF. Like this student, numerous people around the world believe this misconception to be true. Whether people argue for or against the importance of gender in religion, more than just what goes on in the bedroom has been heating up lately. Many debates have sparked due to the negative connotation associated with sex when confronted about its position in religious cultures.
This event greatly affected me, both emotionally and physically. My dad was in the hospital in a lot of pain because he shattered the two most painful bones to break and I could not go see him because of my work schedule and because I had to watch my sister. Finally, after four long days I saw him. Even though he is my dad, I must say he was a mess. He could not move at all, and when he tried to he was in a lot of pain.
This essay considers Christianity and Politics with a focus on the candidates’ religious beliefs. It is worth to take a moment to figure out whether candidate’s individual religious faith “always or sometimes guides their political views” (Seeing Gray, 212). According to the author, the candidate’s religious beliefs and his or her practices are crucial to consider for voters to contemplate. This is due to the fact that when humans make a decision; their faith could be the contributing factor to make a right one. A Christian president would be an “individual of integrity, of honesty, of character-someone who puts the needs of others before their own” since they tend to abide by the Bible, a word of God.
Religion is a major controversy in modern society. Some reach a final conclusion early on that there is no God or Supreme Being; instead they believe that there is life and then nothing more. Others have so much faith that they are actually willing to die for their religion. It could be viewed as drastic but it is also reality. As a soon to be missionary I see the benefits of religious views and the impact it has on people for their well being. For my religion, I am willing to serve two years of my life to teach other the joy of the gospel while sacrificing my time away from my friends and family. An apostle of my church once said "The most effective missionaries, member and full time, act out of love… If we lack this love for others we should pray for it." -Elder Dallin H. Oaks. This quote just reminds me of why I am so willing to want to go out and serve The Lord. I will do it because of his love for me. But not to be biased of my own personal religion, I want to show that believing in something and having faith is better than nothing. Atheists are people that have a belief that there is nothing more after this life to me would seem to have really nothing to live for believing that they are just here to die which is a sad message. So in this essay I would like to describe why religion is so important and such an amazing thing.
My religion and faith guide me through life, it also shaped my perception of humanity 's
