Nervous, I strolled into the rink, with my head down, not knowing what to expect. I joined the long line for signing in. I waited until I got to the front of the line and they handed me my royal blue tryout jersey. I was instructed to head back to the locker room and prepare for my first game. I was a little late. The locker room was packed and as soon as I walked in the stench of hockey hit me. The whole room was nervous. Player were from all over the state and nobody really knew each other. There was only a couple spots left and I sat down next to a kid from the upper peninsula. I am a pretty quiet kid and I have a go with the flow mentality. The player from the upper peninsula would not stop talking. I was just trying to focus and get prepared for the game. I just ignored him and minded my own business. I taped my stick and got dressed and had time to watch the game before mine.The rink was very cold and the stands were crowded. Watching the game, I pictured plays that I would do on the ice. Currently I am playing varsity hockey for my high school. This last season I had the biggest game of my life and I didnt even have any nerves. I was more excited. Throughout my carrer I have played in many other big games and I had never gotten butterflies like this tryout. This is because this tryout was for Team Michigan. Team Michigan is composed of the top 20 high school juniors in the state. A team is picked and there is a two week training camp to prepare for the huge CCM NIT Tournament in Minnesota. Once I hit the ice for the game all of my nerves went away and I just went out and played the game that I loved.
