I never liked college fairs. College fairs are massive, loud, and I hate walking around a hot room that smells of fresh dirty socks, going from one college representative to another, and not having time to organize the thought of one conversation before starting another. Usually, I end up on email chains from more colleges than I could ever consider, and a headache that lasts for days from trying to sort through the information I gathered from the conversations with each of the college representatives. However, the college fair my school had, during my Junior year, gave me something unique, something that I am truly grateful for that has and will teach me irreplaceable life and professional skills. There were over 40 colleges, universities …show more content…
After we made the phone calls, Blake asked us what benefits we hoped to from the internship, nearly everyone wanted a letter of recommendation, but I had a different answer. Of course I wanted the letter, but I also wanted to be able to rid of some of my social anxiety, and be able to end a phone call without it being awkward. I had apologized for my response being kind of menial, but Blake provided great insight as to why that was an exceptional answer. He talked about how he had interned for the Lake County Republican Office and how his greatest achievements was similar, menial skills that he probably couldn’t have learned elsewhere. Twice a week I walked around different neighborhoods and knocked on people’s doors in hopes of talking to voters about Congressman Bob Dold and to have them complete surveys. I can honestly say this, my decision to take this internship was the best decision I made. It forced me to do something I wasn’t accustomed to and by doing so, I grew as a person in ways I can’t imagine. I have met so many great people, expanded my comfort zone, been in six parades, made over 300 phone calls and knocked on well over 200 doors. However, most importantly I have grown as a citizen, a soon to be voting citizen, and a voting citizen who can end phone calls without it being
Prompt: In 500 words or more, describe your collegiate experience thus far. How has this experience and the knowledge you've gained influenced what you plan to study? How have they influenced your decision to apply to St. Edward's?
At the start of the semester, my oblivious state of nature associating with the Chinese culture reached an unacceptable level. Implementing a necessary change, I decided to educate myself on different cultures starting with China. I failed to ponder that such a rich, deep culture existed outside America. Encompassed by this country’s unique yet suffocating melting pot culture, my outlook believed ideas such as uniformity between American Chinese food and Authentic Chinese food. After this course, my bigot perspective widened as I witnessed diversity in the world. Before this class, when I thought of Chinese food, my connotation jumped to thoughts associated with chop suey, but as I progressed my education, my mindset gradually pondered foods like steamed buns or “New Year Cakes” with authentic Chinese food.
I was able to attend a fair on September 15 at the city of Bell Gardens. The fair was created to celebrate the Mexican Independence Day, which in Spanish is called Dia de la Independencia de Mexico. On September 15, they celebrate El Grito de Mexico. This event is celebrated every year, to remind people about the day they gain their independence, which brings many individuals to do the Grito de Dolores. In this case, the mayor of the city along with her colleagues and the escoltas were present. Not only was the Mexico flag present, but also the United States flag. At first, they mayor of the city told all the individuals to stand up and remove their hats for the respect of the flags. They started with the United States national anthem, which the escolta was walking with the United States flag, while the people were told to put their right hand over there heart and then they song along with the
Throughout my high school, Wilson High School, various events and activities occur to encourage college. For example, in my AP English Language and Literature class, we were
When carnival was created it was a day for the peasants to have freedom to do what they wanted to the kings and the hierarchy above them, but my question is why did the kings take it to heart? If what the Kings do to the peasants on a daily basis is not accepted when it is done to them on the day of carnival, then why do it at all?
Every year I get this feeling. The knots in my stomach are pulled tighter every time I pass through the narrow rock arch labeled with an aged sign reading, Welcome to the Delta County Fair Grounds. My eyes peer into the distance, and like every year, the park is full of commotion and energy. Kids swinging on the swings, teenagers showing off their new school clothes while sitting on the chipped green tables eating mazzo dogs, and the various types of food stands, complete the atmosphere of the Delta County Fair. The fair is a place where parents enjoy themselves by spending quality time with their families; it's an ending to the summer and a beginning to a new school year. Entering such grounds would usually make a person feel serenity and excitement, but it is a whole different story when I drive under the rock arch entryway.
As I thought of this article, many of the issues I have faced as a single Hmong woman in her mid-twenties came to mind. Should I discuss the functional reasons why marriage is so important in the Hmong culture, especially for women? Or do I talk about the lack of eligible, older Hmong men? Better yet, should I complain about the attempts by my relatives to find me a good husband as if it were an unfortunate circumstance that I was single instead of a conscious choice? Thinking it over, though, I decided that all those questions boiled down to one fundamental truth – the Hmong community is still trying to learn how to treat the increasing number of Hmong women who, like me, are making the choice to stay single in their mid-twenties.
Back in May, the Wisconsin State Assembly Races were just starting to heat up. Candidates were throwing their names in the ring and people were experiencing potential candidates knocking on their doors and collecting signatures to reach the 200 minimum threshold to get their names on the ballot in August. I knew that I wanted to intern for a candidate in an assembly race because I had a few interesting races in the area I am from. I wanted to work for an assembly candidate in the 59th district because I know the area very well and I believed that I could actually have an impact on the race. Assembly races are more personable and they are elected to represent a smaller area, so the work was more focused on a central point. Also, working for a candidate in an Assembly race just makes more sense for college students, especially if the internship is unpaid because there is less driving to do in smaller districts.
Since the town I grew up in did not have much diversity I found other ways to interact with individuals who are different from me. I was able to help out through various community service activities and participate in a variety of out of state community service trips. The community service activities and trips prepared me for an internship that gave me full insight to new social, cultural, and economic perspectives. Through the Wisconsin Area Health Education Center I was placed in a small northern Wisconsin county to gather information on why 2-year old immunization rates were low, investigate the influx of FoodShare, but the decline in Women, Infant, and Children, and facilitate meetings with community, and surrounding clinics on the issue of Wisconsin HealthCheck. Being from a small town I had an idea in my head that I was not going to encounter much diversity through my internship placement.

Timing is important when it comes to scheduling a college career fair. Doing it at the wrong time of year will ensure you get few attendees and even fewer recruiters. Since it's likely you don't have the budget to hold countless career fairs throughout the year, you need to schedule your career fair carefully.
It was not at all what I thought it would be and I honestly realized along the way this is not a department I would want to work in. The desk work and the constant time on the computer really turns me off from working in any department that entails sitting in one spot for six hours. To counter that I did go out to shoot promotional videos and I had the opportunity to go to some events that I would never be able to go to without 6abc, but the time spent at the desk really makes those events less intriguing. I was hoping to do a lot more on camera projects when starting this internship, but I spent a lot of time behind the camera which I was not used to. I do think that having this internship was very important because it taught me a lot about how much goes into promoting a news station. I now appreciate all of the people that aren’t on television because they do most of the dirty work. Our talent do write some of their stories, but their job seems a lot more relaxing than some of the other employees. I loved interacting with the talent more than anything because I hope one day to be in their shoes. Adam Joseph is such a sweetheart and I am honored to have worked closely with him on projects along with all of the 6abc talent. Watching them with fans at events make me even more driven to be the best I can be and get a fan base like they all have
I am going into event planning, in the sector of the hospitality industry. Event planning industry is on the rise and is not glued to one specific genre, hence, there are several to choose from. Event planning is needed for all sorts of occasions such as, birthday parties, weddings, fundraisers, product launches, concerts, anniversaries, fashion shows, conferences, graduations, business meetings, and much more! It is an industry that will never stop growing and improving. Specifically, an event planner job includes working with clients, creating a positive self-image, networking with clients, and personal and financial gain.
Growing up, everybody gets to learn that the real world is not a fantasy that’s easy to cope with. While I was growing up I believe that life was really easy; not until I reached 12th grade. That’s where I got to learn how to be independent, and work hard to earn my things. 2015 was the year where I got a little taste of the real world. Growing up was a blur, and I barely remember everything from my childhood, so I shall tell my reader the important facts, challenges, and rewards I have faced in my life.
