Book Review Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is a self-improvement book that gives insight on how millionaires think. In the first chapter Hill focuses on desire, and sees it as the most important trait to possess. He reiterates the significance of it being a desire and not a wish because wishes do not always come true. He also explains a six-step method that can help you achieve financial wealth. The first step is to define the amount of money you want to obtain; he emphasizes the importance of this being a specific number. Secondly, state what you are willing to give in return for your desired financial wealth. Next, he says to establish a date in which you desire your goal to be met

Lastly, he says to read the statement twice a day to constantly remind yourself of your goal. The key is to make an obsession out of your goal so that you will work harder to make your goal a reality. Hill also stresses the importance of having faith, and describes it as a type of self-confidence that should be carried with you daily. He talks about the principle of autosuggestion and compares it to affirmations or visualizations. If it cannot be visualized in your mind, then Hill feels that you will not be able to see it as a reality. He uses money as an example, and states that if you picture yourself working hard to get wealthy, the money will soon follow. The next attribute that Hill touches on is specialized knowledge, or a niche. He states that having generalized knowledge does make a man rich, but specialized knowledge can. He implies the importance of deciding what specialized knowledge you find beneficial, then figuring out how you can master that specialized skill. One of his mentors was Andrew Carnegie, and he said one of the most important things you can do is surround yourself with people who will bring you up. Another key principle Hill talks about is …show more content…
Hill relates libido with drive, and suggests redirecting your sexual focus onto making money. He brings up a good point by saying that generally men are more successful later on in their life because all of the sexual focus they had when they were younger isn’t as prevalent, and can be used to focus on making money. Hill also talks about the importance of the subconscious mind, and making sure that it is kept positive. Lastly, Hill discusses the principle of the sixth sense; this is developed when a person has a deeper understanding of his or her own mind. The sixth sense works to create a medium between the mind and infinitive intelligence. This book was written with purpose, and is still applicable today. The mind is such a complex machine, and this book gave me a better idea of how to master mine. It makes sense to me that your goals will be accomplished once you write them out in detail, and remind yourself of them everyday. This process is comparable to hearing a lie so many times that you eventually begin to believe it. Basically your mind is tricked into thinking it’s reality, which gives you a sense of self-confidence that couldn’t be achieved any other way. Another
Novelists such as Willa Cather and F. Scott Fitzgerald used themes of desire for wealth as a fundamental element to motivate their characters. In their novels, the theme is reflected by the rich Americans, whose primal desire is to obtain more and more wealth. These characters are so infatuated with and blinded by money that they no longer regard the noble qualities of life. In each of their works, these authors present intricate, self-conscious characters that desire wealth in order to attain their dreams. In reality, wealth cannot buy people, ideas, or even time.
Setting goals for yourself creates an individual growth. In the article, “Why we are looking at the ‘value’ of college all wrong” by Valerie Strauss, Nelson discusses how an independent learner is able to teach themselves and learn from the challenges they tend to face. “The educated graduate is an independent learner…able to direct his or her own learning in accordance with the challenges that life presents in the circumstances of his or her own life.(Strauss 1)” For example, I want to become Registered Nurse; therefore, I write that down as one of my goals. However, I would then have to write everything else in order to become a Registered Nurse. Having a goal set that I want to become a RN, I now have something to strive at and to motivate myself to reach that goal. Therefore, creating goals helps establish what direction I am trying to go in, and also allows me to figure out how to solve a problem. Another example is if I failed a test, I will try to examine the errors within my work; however, I will then create a goal for myself to make sure I do better on test the next time. Finding the errors and creating goals to fix the errors makes me an independent learner. I am taking the charge that I want to do better; therefore, I am going to create a goal to help me succeed. By fixing the errors, I then challenge myself inside and outside the
these goals is to not just focus in one direction but open your mind to focus in

Whatever one thinks about all the time tends to happen, hence the title “Think and Grow Rich.” Using the examples of past success, such as his son and Edwin C. Barnes, Hill shows how a burning desire, persistence and other principles, if done effectively, can be combined to create favorable conditions towards success. This book is written to guide anybody, in any occupation, with everyday endeavors, because new inspirations can always be found. Hill stresses principles, methods that have to deal with the mind because it is a powerful weapon. This book was written during the Era of the Great depression, and it could still be used for modern day situations because the techniques, teachings and instructions do not get old.
The most effective and sustainable wealth creation programs teach people much more than where to invest money. programs to create wealth teach people effectively how to develop the mindset and attitude of the rich and prosperous; they teach the difference in mindset between what the rich and the poor do. Learning to develop the proper mindset to create wealth is the difference between learning how to make some money and learn how to build an independent stream of wealth that will last a lifetime. To teach the mentality of the rich also known as "Millionaire Mindset", programs for the creation of wealth often teach people that they need to attract wealth by living rich.
Step 1. Mindset is Everything. If you truly would like to learn how to attract wealth into your life, then you need to focus on your mindset first. What do I mean by this.

If you have a plethora of skills, you will have a higher chance of success than other people. Skills allow you to qualify for certain positions and allow you to excel in what you need to. You can have time to achieve your goals and predict what else you need to do. Success can come in many ways including family, money, fame, respect, and achieving your goals. It requires steady attention to our actions and determination for wanting to achieve something big. In order to achieve your goal in life, you need to deeply desire the goal that you want. Take time to think why you are setting the goal you have chosen. Make sure that you really want the goal you are setting to avoid

I like to refresh my memory on the concepts this book has to offer. Every time I go back and read it again, it always offers new information that I have seemed to look over, so I’m constantly applying that new information that I catch.
