I watched a movie for the first time ever last night. That movie was Napoleon Dynamite. I’ve always heard funny lines and jokes from the movie so I decided to give up some of my time to watch it. Now I know you’re probably thinking ‘oh that movie is funny but dumb and doesn’t have anything to do with pop culture analysis.’ I beg to differ. In this movie we see a high school student, Napoleon who gets picked on for being a nerd. Many students in high school experience this kind of bullying. Nothing was done about Napoleon being bullied just like today, many people feel like teachers and administration don’t do anything for bullied students. In Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess, 2004), the character known as Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder) is quite a unique fellow. His quirkiness and eccentricity are what make him as a character; they are the primary traits of his personality. Keep in mind, however, that he is not the only odd character in the film, but he has his own peerless way of defining himself separate from any other character(s). This effect is achieved through certain cinematic techniques that director Jared Hess utilizes in order to bring out Napoleon’s persona in ways other than simply “guessing” who he really is. Rather, these techniques “explicitly imply” certain character traits; they are like clues that allow one to see the character just as the creator intended. Through mise-en-scene, sound, and acting and performance, Napoleon Dynamite emphasizes and comments on the character of Napoleon, defining his physical and social nature.
For the school year of 2012-2013, there were about 98,328 public schools in the nation, that would mean that in each and every elementary, Middle, and High school in the nation, an estimated two students do not show up to school because of the fear of being bullied. “Further, students who are being bullied may begin stealing money or being dishonest about being ill” (Levine, 2014). “Children who engage in bullying from a young age may be involved in what is known as precursory bullying. Precursory bullying has implications for future bullying, and is understood as ultimately destructive and damaging” (Levine and Tamburrino, 2014). There is no doubt about this, we’ve all heard about adults that have been bullied as children and are not successful members of society.
Sex, love, depression, guilt, trust, all are topics presented in this remarkably well written and performed drama. The Flick, a 2014 Pulitzer Prize winning drama by Annie Baker, serves to provide a social commentary which will leave the audience deep in thought well after the curtain closes. Emporia State Universities Production of this masterpiece was a masterpiece in itself, from the stunningly genuine portrayal of the characters of Avery and Rose, to the realism found within the set, every aspect of the production was superb.
I am writing a film review on the 1976, classic movie Rocky. In this review I will explore the main character Rocky, along with secondary characters Adrian, Pauley, and Mick. I will compare Rocky’s self-concept and self-esteem to the secondary characters. Identify whether the characters are nourishing or noxious individuals. Finally, we will describe how the main character is perceived by other characters.
El Tango De Roxanne is a climactic scene towards the end of the film, Moulin Rouge. Moulin Rouge, is a love story between a penniless writer, Christian, and a courtesan from the Moulin Rouge, Satine. They must keep their relationship a secret, because The Rich Duke promises money to The Moulin Rouge in return for Satine’s “love.” This scene serves as a catalyst, fueling The Duke’s anger and Christian’s jealousy as the truth unfolds through song and dance. I think El Tango De Roxanne furthers the narrative of the movie, by presenting the bohemian ideals of beauty, freedom, truth, and love through creative cinematic choices.
The movie showed every component to bullying. Aggression which leads to physical or verbal abuse. Repetition, the two jocks in the movie showed this numerous times with various people they classified as nerds. Lastly power imbalance where the bully feels he’s on a higher status than the victim. All the victim in the movies who were bullied were on a lower status and cast out as rejects.
The word “bullying” can be defined as the use of superior strength or influence to intimidate someone, typically to force him or her to do what one wants. In the novel Nineteen Minutes, written by Jodi Picoult, the high school students prove the definition to be true. The forms and effects of bullying have no real limit, but are always going to be negative. Children, or even adults being bullied is extremely common, and can often get out of hand. A lot of the times there nothing is done to prevent bullying, which is a huge mistake that should be corrected as soon as it could be. Through the extremely emotion filled novel, Nineteen Minutes, Jodi Picoult goes deep into the face of a small town to find out what it means to be truly different in society. Jodi Picoult uses the social issue of teenage bullying to create a realistic story about the effects of verbal and physical abuse, leading to a tragedy for society. This novel is a great example of how bullying no only affects the people who are involved, but many others as well. Bullying in teenage children not only has an effect on themselves and their peers, but on society as whole.

The genre of my movie is a gangster film. My movie I chose was Scarface. Directed by Brian De Palma.An update of the 1932 film, Scarface (1983) follows gangster Tony Montana and his close friend Manny Ray from their trip on the Cuban Boat Lift for refugees to their arrival in Miami. The Perks of Being a Wallflower was brought to screen in 2012 by author and director Stephen Chbosky. The movie is about a 15 year old adolescent named Charlie who is beginning high school with a little more baggage than the normal freshman. The viewer quickly discovers that Charlie’s best friend, Michael, committed suicide during May of their 8th grade school year and the viewer later learns that Charlie’s aunt Helen molested him as a child. Charlie begins school determined to make some new friends and is befriended by step siblings Patrick and Sam during the first week of school. The movie spans for Charlie’s entire freshman year and shows the struggles he has with relationships, bullying, risky behaviors, as well remnants from his past trauma. He has a lot in common with Sam and falls in love with her, but accidentally ends up in a relationship with another one of the members of their clique, Mary Elizabeth. His relationship with her ends poorly and he is exiled from the clique for a few weeks. Upon the school year ending, Charlie is faced with the harsh reality that his group of friends, including his love Sam, are all seniors and are all going on to college. Charlie has a mental breakdown, but is able to reconcile many of his past struggles with the help of a doctor and the support from his parents and siblings. The movie ends with Sam and Patrick coming

The Treaty of Madrid of 1750 with the Spanish and Portuguese caused both havoc and death for the people of the Guarini and the members of the Jesuits. The Jesuits, members of the church, tried to bring Christianity and civilization to the natives while keeping at peace with Spain and Portugal. The Jesuits were the teachers for the natives; Teaching them not only the Christian religion but also civilization. The word “school” brings nothing except goosebumps to many students nationwide. Bullying has been around since schools themselves. However, in the recent decades, the term “bullying has gone far overhand. After all of these years of tears, cuts, and suicides, there still has been no solution. The only option we have now is, to have bullies convicted with criminal charges.

“A young man committed suicides because of all the people that bullied him… his parents are devastated,” is what you hear on your news channel. Parents are losing teens every day because of bullying. Bullying is an unwanted aggressive behavior that is repeated over time (www.stopbullying.gov ). Just imagine feeling left out and depressed because of someone’s attitude towards you. Bullying is so serious that teens feel unwanted and get suicidal thoughts. At their age they should be enjoying themselves and getting ready for the future. When they get bullied it brings negative effects on their lives. Most of us think bullying isn’t a big deal unless it affects us or someone around us that we know. We should take it very serious because it can happen to anyone; but we can all help prevent bullying if we help each other. Parents, teachers, staff members, and students can all get involved and help stop bullying .We all have a role to play towards bullying and how it affects our teenagers.

Bullying has been a part of schooling for as long as children have been congregating. To some it seems like a natural, though uncomfortable, part of life and school experience, while to others it can mean terrifying experiences which spoiled and characterized otherwise happy years in school. Dan Olweus, a pioneer in bully behavior research documented that 2.7 million children are affected as victims, and that 2.1 children act as bullies (Fried, 1997, as cited in Aluedse, 2006). With bullying cited as the reason for violent, gun-related crime in the past few years, school districts as well as national governments have put anti-bullying policies in place. Bullying is a complicated phenomenon, involving more than one child demanding lunch money from a smaller child. It is a worldwide epidemic hitting schools everywhere. Virtually everyone has seen or experienced bullying. With technological advances, bullying is even hitting the internet. Parents, teachers, students and governments agencies alike are attempting to put a stop to bullying practices.
