In the novel, Prey, written by Michael Crichton it pertains to the subject of nanotechnology throughout the whole entire book. The main characters of this novel are the narrator, Jack, and his wife, Julia. They are parents of three vibrant children, an amazing example combining the happiness of parenthood with the pursuit of brilliant careers in the high-tech world of Silicon Valley. Julia, vice president of another computer-based company, Xymos that is developing nano-robots, tiny machines that can move around and function independently yet they are programmed to work together like a swarm of bees. Jack works for a company called MediaTronics that makes software to coordinate the actions of large groups of autonomous agents. This is until …show more content…

Radioactive isotopes are an atom that has excess nuclear energy, causing it to be unstable. This excess energy can either create and emit, from the nucleus, new radiation or transfer this excess energy to one of its electrons, causing it to be ejected. In the novel, Jack uses the branch of radioactive isotopes to attempt to find the nest by tagging the swarm. With this, it helps Jack, Charley, Mae, Bobby, David and Rosie track them easier and they go on to follow the swarm and successfully find where they are staying but it does not end well due to the death of David and Rosie by four swarms attacking the shack that the team is in. With this being said, radioactive isotopes is nanotechnology because it aided in determining where the bots were flying and where they went. All in all, we did, in fact, speak on the subject of isotopes in class when reviewing chapter 3, Science Behind Nanotechnology. In conclusion, the four topics stated above to connect to what we have learned in classes. The four topics being, assemblers, nanorobotics, nano cameras and radioactive isotopes. Reading this novel, I gained more knowledge on the subjects at hand and learned more about the science behind them. Overall, this book was a good read and I would recommend it to future students interested in the subject of
