During my first visit and experience of NEIU’s campus I was shocked and utterly amazed by the rich, vast amount of experiences it had to offer. Last November, It had been dwelling on my mind for quite some time to visit various campuses in lieu of my upcoming graduation in May of 2016. Finishing my Associate’s Degree in Computer Science from Triton College, Northeastern Illinois University became a point of interest for making my transition, offering the appeals of scholarship opportunities, undergraduate study programs and hope for my educational goals. Since young, I’ve always desired to find ways in which technology can create solutions for myself and other people. Thus, I began to pursue a degree in computer science, the field of IT and software development in order to continue learning ways in which technology from now and the upcoming future can be used and manipulated to improve the lives of people, the community and whomever else in the world could find it beneficial. I’ve had the great privilege of having met C.S. professionals and other teachers who have kept my passion on the subject well lit. My academic mentors from Triton suggested that I should consider NEIU since it had a solid path for me to continue studying computer science. From the various teachings coming from my mentors, I came to realize that anyone can easily learn about technology given the open-source tool for education that the internet has become; however, the most valuable lesson about success working in IT did not point out that it was about becoming extremely knowledgeable or skilled, but rather the ability to work, collaborate, and network with people to find solutions. I have without a doubt that being able to work and study along with the NEIU’s faculty, fellow classmates and students while also having the opportunity to live in the new campus dorms will be most beneficial to accomplish educational goals and success for coming up in the field of …show more content…
Before attending Triton College, I made an effort to be involved in extracurricular activities while attending East Leyden High School. I played first doubles in the Tennis Varsity Team until senior year, when I also became the team captain. I had also made it to the Cross-Country Varsity to run long distance. I participated in various clubs and the like. While at Triton College, I continued to participate in many clubs and organizations that the campus had to offer, including the Program Board to help make events, I became a Student Ambassador, a member of the honors society of Phi Theta Kappa, and then set my interests in the student government – the Triton College Student Association (TCSA). In my current prospects and given the opportunity to live on NEIU’s campus also has me looking forward to representing NEIU at Springfield during the 2017 Model Illinois Government (MIG) Simulation, another organization comprised of many universities and colleges in which I’ve become a well-recognized member of and student
Every year there are thousands of students planning and tracking their goals. Seniors in high school are faced with the tough challenge, while the Juniors are left to worry another year. Finally, the point comes a student’s life where they must make one of the most important decisions in their educational lifetime. That choice is, which college to attend, and it is a very scrutinous process. Two of such colleges are the University of Iowa and St. Ambrose University, and although similarities like majors and minors are evident, there are many other differences including student life.
Some of my extracurricular activities include Science Olympiad, STEM Academy, International Club, Advanced Academics Club, and Chem Club. During high school I have participated in various community-based organizations, the two most common being Beta Club and National Honor Society. However while these clubs have allowed me to give back to my community in numerous ways, it was strangely not either of these clubs that expanded my interest in the following particular social issue. Rather it was my involvement in Science Olympiad, specifically volunteering to help run a local Elementary school tournament, that expanded my view of the STEM field.
One extracurricular activity that I am very passionate about would be the FFA. FFA has taught me so many things and it has brought me so many places. I 've learned how to be a great speaker from different events my advisor has challenged me to do. Public speaking has taken me so many places and I have attributed most of my success to FFA. When I was a freshmen I competed and received gold in the creed speaking competition. As a sophomore, I tried extemporaneous speaking and received a gold for that as well. As a junior I really wanted to challenge myself so I took up agricultural sales as my winter career development experience. I ended up being recognized as the state runner up individual agriculture salesman as well as the 15th best agricultural sales man in the nation. Upon arriving to college, many students face the challenge of finding a community to belong to. I believe the student affairs professionals on campus are the resource to building communities within the student body. Reflecting back on my first semester of college, I found my community within two organizations; Dance Marathon and UI Alumni Association Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow (S.T.A.T.). Within the organizations I met two advisers who opened my eyes to the world of student affairs.
This club is known for recognizing students who demonstrated excellence in all areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Once a member of the club, you continue to expand your excellence by doing countless amounts of volunteering and showing your leadership skills. One volunteer project I enjoyed doing was becoming a peer helper. I hated seeing many of my classmates struggle with math and science. They knew if they didn’t pass the class they couldn’t graduated. So instead of letting them fail I took time out of my day and tutored many students in subjects like algebra, geometry, and chemistry. When I was helping my peers I did my best to find their inner confidence towards wanting to be successful. I believed this is what made me a true leader, because I didn’t allow my peers to become failures.

I aspired to play a significant leadership role in all of the activities someday, and over the course of my high school career, I thankfully have. This year as a senior, the student body elected me as the president of Student Council; members of National Honor Society (NHS) did the same; future business leaders elected me as the vice president of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA); and I received the votes to secure the office of secretary in the local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter. The type of education portrayed by the university is influenced by the international community. It gives students the chance to be inspired by different opportunities, like internships and clubs, to enhance the specialization of their degree of study. This makes the student more goal-orientated towards an education that will make them valuable and versatile for whatever job market they walk in to. In eighth and ninth grade, I was on the volleyball team. I learned and developed the ability to work with a team and contribute to the balance of everyone’s strengths and weaknesses. I also was on the track team from seventh through tenth grade. I competed in triple jump, an individual event. Through this, I learned how to be independent and acquire skills on my own. As a New Jersey native, it has been a dream of mine to obtain a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New Jersey and be an active participant in the Rutgers University thriving culture. I had experienced the motivating campus lifestyle while visiting friends and relatives. This has been an inspiration for me to carve out my educational path to lead to Rutgers University. I am passionate, driven, and motivated by challenging myself. I wish to push my own limits, and feel that surface of my potential has just been scratched.
Extracurricular involvement through one's school, is a key and crucial factor in succeeding, while growing and developing during the early stages of a student's life. I am an actively involved and motivated student, for I participate in numerous school activities while consistently undertaking superb grades. I also received an award for Most Encouraging Student. I currently belong to the Hiking and Outdoor Club, Ski Club, Pep Club, and Environmental Awareness Club. In addition, this year I participate in a program called Read With A Friend. In this program I, along with a group of other students, go to the near by elementary school to read to a class of students from kindergarten to fifth grade.
