The subject of implemented drug policies has continued to exist in society as a controversial topic. Mills would advocate that drug use is a personal choice and in prohibiting it means prohibiting an individual’s free rights to govern themselves. Though drug use is a personal choice, its usage has affected society in form or the other. The choice weighs heavily on the individual’s interest in his freedom to use drugs against the potential harm this may cause to himself and to others. More recently, the war on drugs have escalated the prohibition of recreational drug use. In order to evaluate its justification, the reasons prohibiting its use need to first be explored.
The war on drugs in our culture is a continuous action that is swiftly lessening our society. This has been going on for roughly 10-15 years and has yet to slow down in any way. Drugs continue to be a problem for the obvious reason that certain people abuse them in a way that can lead to ultimate harm on such a person. These drugs do not just consist of street drugs (marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy), but prescription medications as well. Although there are some instances where drugs are being used by subjects excessively, there has been medical research to prove that some of these drugs have made a successful impact on certain disorders and diseases.
Due to patents, Pfizer and other companies in the pharmaceutical industry are not always competing in a monopolist’s competition. When a business has a patent they are the only manufacturer who can produce the product until the product expires, so it is clear that the firm can act as a monopoly while in control of the patent. As a monopolistic company, the company has market power, giving it the capability to adjust the market price of a good. The main goal for a monopolist and business owner is to maximize their profits, however, there are rules they have to abide by. The monopolistic companies still have to keep up with the market demand curve. The point at which they decide to produce will rest on their own acidities of revenue, risk and effort. The company also needs to know the price elasticity of the curve: the greater the price elasticity, the more a company such as Pfizer will struggle to establish high prices and a high volume.

Consequential-ism becomes an important subject to approach due to the process of decision making. In this case, consequential-ism will put a person in a situation that establishes who that person defines themselves to be. Starting off with the trolley scenario, the consequential-ism is scene in all the cases of pulling the level on a train track to determine the direction the train will go. So if a train is coming and the railroad splits into two different track with a people on each one, then who would I save. It is interesting which to choose because I would have to choose the lesser of the risk. So let say the is one person on track A and more than one people on track B, then I would save more people by directing the train onto track A. But know if that was my soulmate, lover or family, I would have to rethink the consequences I would have to face. These different scenarios are not to be easy decisions, but show who the person of their true nature. Personally, if it was someone I knew verse a stranger, I would be automatically incline to pull the level to kill the stranger. But there is also decision of the wrong and right chooses that should be regulated appropriately. In the end, we must be accountable for the decisions we make in life because we will be judge for all of them. We need to understand that the power of
... for one, no one for more than one” therefore the one of the measures will be the amount of people affected (Bykvist, 2010:16). In Enron the employees strived to reach the short term goals at any cost, any this led to the detriment of the company (Brinkman, 2003). When a company follows a long term approach, it is more concerned with the various asepects of sustainability, and as seen before (Enron) there is a “correlation between short termism and the cutting of ethical corners” (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, 2010). The hedonic calculus was introduced by Bentham, for calculating the “pleasure and pain” caused by the consequences, they are distinguished from each other through quantitative differences (Shaw, 2011:54). However, this will not work as seen in the Ford Pinto case, human life doesn’t have a specific value attcahed to it (Shaw, 2011:83).
Consequentialism relates to net neutrality because people are selfish by nature and the government wants to control over the internet, which was made to be free. Also the justice theory gives everyone the same equal chances to opportunities. Since starting doing this paper in the past few days’ congress and the white house ruled to keep the internet free for now until the FCC tries to fight the net neutrality again. To sum it all up I think the internet should be free and remain free without the FCC taking control over

The prices of prescription drugs have risen at an alarming rate in the past few years this has threatened the access and affordability of these drugs. Every day in the papers and news channels, we hear how the costs
“Ethics… are nothing but reverence for life. This is what gives me the fundamental principle of morality, namely, that good consists in maintaining, promoting, and enhancing life, and that destroying, injuring, and limiting life are evil.” This definition of ethics was from the German physician, theologian, and medical missionary Albert Schweitzer who was awarded the 1952 Nobel Peace Prize1. Ethics are the principles that govern the behavior of society. It is a topic of discussion that affects all of humanity regardless of age, race or generation. In essence, it is the guide by which individuals determine right from wrong.
The use of drugs is a controversial topic in society today. In general, addicts show a direct link between taking drugs and suffering from their effects. People abuse drugs for a wide variety of reasons. In most cases, the use of drugs will serve a type of purpose or will give some kind of reward. These reasons for use will differ with different kinds of drugs. Various reasons for using the substance can be pain relief, depression, anxiety and weariness, acceptance into a peer group, religion, and much more.
