Hello, my name is Mya Mannerfeldt, and today I'm going to be talking about people and the world in general. Things wrong with it and things that we should try and fix. There's a lot going on right now, so I thought this would be a less challenging topic to talk about due to all the information I could get out there and find. For example, if something happens to a celebrity that would happen to a normal person on a daily basis, people seem to make too big of a deal out of those things when there's other issues. I feel - along with other people - that there's more problems in the world other than Justin Biebers new girlfriend and what models use on their skin. There's way more harder problems that affect all of us, for example, war, shootings,
There are many issues this world faces such as pollution, car fatalities, not taking care off the world etc.. People try and show their concerns for these issues by starting organisations or having protests and just trying to get people to realise that what they are doing is wrong and that we cant continue to live like this.
Probably because we're human. Even though the bulk of our problems are self-inflicted or man-made, they still come as a shock to us nearly every time. We have created an absurd time to live in. So now what?. How do we deal with it?
To a certain extent I do agree with Thomas, people do act worse when they gather in groups; such as all thats happening in the County of Los Angeles about the water issues, and Hurricane Haiyan that recently struck the Philippines in early November of this year; but we also cannot forget about all the charities and event that raises money for organiations to help the people who needs it in various ways.
There are many celebrities who support and promote causes and charities to create awareness about peace, humanitarian causes, poverty, and illness in the world. Does celebrity activism really have the intention to help others or do celebrities get involved in it because they want to enhance their reputation? Although some celebrity activists do not have a good reputation because of their bad behavior, they contribute to society by giving donations or by supporting good causes. Celebrity activism matters because celebrities are powerful tools who raise awareness of good causes. Celebrities have the power to attract people’s attention, for instance, their fans, to influence them to support the important causes.
I'm going to start tonight by talking a little bit about public accountability. Over the past month, Lucille Kring and Kris Murray have lambasted my parents and me for criticizing them in front of the crowd in this room and those listening at home.
What I am going to talk about tonight affects all of us. Not just us sitting in this classroom, but it affects everyone on this world. Whether you’re in the U.N. or live in North Korea.
...e they have a big enough fan bases, but their fans do not really care about them. When you are at Chris rock or Mariah Carey status, and you caused some kind of emotional effect you have reached level ten. People that are able incorporate, or have been through all ten levels of fame; people that are willing to give back to the community are famous geniuses. Oprah Winfrey is a very good example of a person who has dominated everything that has got in her way. She is a true inspiration and her fame will live on forever.
Everyday is a chance to do something you would have never dreamed of doing and a chance to make society a better place. That is the beautiful thing about being an American, every person has the right and the opportunity to be incredible. When I get out of bed in the morning, I make it my personal mission to take advantage of my opportunities and make the world a better place. I believe that incredible things can be done through the smallest or largest actions. Last year, I saw the impact one baseball game can have on an entire community. That event taught me that because I have the right, I have the obligation to do the things I can to improve the lives of others everyday.
There is a big social issue arising in the United States with all of these up and coming stars. Do celebrities including athletes have an obligation to speak out about social issues in our country? The answer is yes, their opinion holds more value in times like today than any average person. People will listen to celebrities because we admire them, and they have an obligation to help out our country. This is a huge deal in our country because with many problems reoccurring in our country like racism, police brutality, and homosexuality. It is their duty as a human to do what they can to make this world a better place. Our goal in our society is to be all on the same page, be a team. These athletes can bring people together in so many unique
Being a celebrity exposes them to the public, and many celebrities take advantage of this in many ways. from endorsing sportswear to sunglasses, sometimes you even see them supporting politicians. Regardless of their interest this is important because they are trusted by their fans and are believed to be a person with morals and integrity. Sometimes you can turn on a television and see them hosting an event raising money for various causes, from helping hospitals that take care of kids that have cancer to earthquake victims or gathering food for the homeless. and we all can see this and it feels good that somebody is making at least an effort to help.
In today's society, people have become materialistic in the obsession of having women, money, and fame that they forget
One of the hottest things that exploded in the recent years was the invention of reality shows. Magazines, TV and blogs do nothing else but talk about this celebrities, most praise how they dress and how the handle daily routines. It has come to the point that some celebrities seem to have certain immunity. Why does it seem that they can get away with things that an average person will not even dare to do. Are they better than the average American, or is their behavior reasonable. What drives a celebrity to act so irresponsible to themselves and those around them.
Everyday people watch television or read articles online about different types of social problems happening in our society. Whether it is fighting for gender equality, reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to prevent global warming, or have the right to universal health care. All of these are social issues that affects our society along with social issues against each other, such as racism, wealth, social class, poverty, and the list goes on. However, social class and race tend to be the top two always making headlines whether it is right or wrong that some people have a higher income than others or is there a justification to discriminate people based on their appearance. To some people this is wrong while others feel this is a great way
In King’s article, “The Impact Celebrities Have on Our Lives”, she states, “Angelina Jolie is another celebrity who, although she had a very rocky and well-known past, has come to be one of the great spokeswomen about the living conditions children in various third world countries face, and was given the title of UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador in 2001” (6). This shows that some people can actually have a tragic past, and still get themselves out in the world, exactly like Angelina Jolie. If Angelina Jolie can recover, can’t someone else recover from an obsession? The article, “Celebrities: Why are some people obsessed with celebrities?” by Oliver J. R. Cooper, states, “A consequence of this childhood trauma is that one's true self is covered up and denied. It creates a disconnection from what is actually true and real. [...] This means that all that has yet to be realized on the inside will then be projected externally and onto other people. And one will then have a tendency to look up to people that display the characteristics that they have yet to realise themselves.” This shows, as someone is recovering, they will use celebrities as a comfort-since they didn’t have anyone else. This isn’t exactly an obsession, but perhaps, a diversion. Over time, you will grow tired of it, and move on, like everyone else. So even though King has been trying to put teens on the ‘right’ path, while most of the time, it will
Today I am here to discuss a topic with you but I don’t know where to start.
