My Writing Strengths And Weaknesses

Writing. The activity or ability of putting logical words on paper and producing text. Writing is known to progress through continuous practice. Thus, I believe my writing has improved immensely over the years, especially this semester in my freshman seminar class. My writing has developed, converting my weaknesses into strengths, through participating in class activities, writing several drafts and receiving feedback, and going to the writing center. When I began writing this semester, I had several noticeable weaknesses. As of high school, I slacked on using a higher level of vocabulary and added unnecessary words, making sentences lengthy. Another key aspect which needed improvement was how I worded things, tending to use the word “that” many times throughout my papers. Another example of a weakness was my struggle to formulate a conclusion and summarize the text. For me, this was a red flag, signaling the need for improvement beginning this semester. With these weaknesses, I focused during class activities to refine my writing skills. There were several class activities we carried out to help with our writing skills. I gained several useful ideas and gathered valuable tips relating to grammar, wording, and organization of my paper, such as the tip to use the thesaurus to avoid repetition of terms. I also received lots of positive feedback on many papers, which added to my confidence and allowed me to see my improvement! Overall, going to the writing center was very beneficial to me, allowing others to take a look at my paper to point me in the right direction.
