As a English student, I am hardworking and willing to put in the effort to improve myself. My strengths include reading complex works, pronunciation, and speaking fluently. These are skills used often in daily life, so I am able to practice them frequently. Generally, I find myself reading mystery and fantasy books the most. These genres are enjoyable for me because it requires the author to be creative and imaginative with their story making an interesting read. Reading mystery books gives a sense of thrill and suspense that keeps my eyes glued to the book and trying to solve the mystery while reading along keeps me engaged as I attempt to to solve it before the characters do. On the other hand, fantasy books allows the reader to imagine a …show more content…
I tend to make a lot of grammatical and spelling errors, especially when I am in a rush. My favorite type of classroom writing to do are informative essays.. The information is easy to organize and to create an outline for when writing so, when writing factually, everything just seems to flow out from my mind onto paper, and often times I have to cut out parts to fit my words into a reasonable length. Writing factually will also require a person conduct their own research and it allows me to increase my own knowledge. I find them the easiest to write compared to other types. Persuasive writing is something I typically do not mind, but can also dislike depending on the topic. I am not always able to properly convey what I want to through my writing due to a variety of reasons, such as inability to properly explain my reasoning or lack of vocabulary. On the other hand, if it is a topic I am familiar with or is relatable, then I would have an abundance of ways and reasons to convince the reader of my argument. Creating a structure for persuasive writing is relatively straightforward, thus making it less troublesome to write. Writing dealing with creativity, like descriptive and narratives, are what I dread the most out of the different types of writings. I struggle with them because I find it difficult to come up with my own original ideas and having to use my imagination. Making my writing flow smoothly when having to create an original story is also another issue I have. Personally, writing them is a time consuming process involving sitting at my desk thinking about it, writing maybe a paragraph or two, another long period of thinking, and repeat. They are more difficult, but I would like to improve my skills so that I can have an easier time writing them. Overall, I have issues with writing and
Authors and speakers alike use some type of persuasion on their intended audience. They often try to make you agree with their argument before considering other factors. Persuasive writing often has a copious amount of logical fallacies, defined by the Perdue Online Writing Lab as “errors in reasoning that will undermine the logic”, despite that they tend to have success with sympathetic audiences. Wendell Berry’s essay “The Whole Horse” is an example. Berry is likely to persuade his conservationist audience because of his use of emotive language.
The format of a piece of writing demonstrates the purpose of the writing. The purpose of persuasive writing is to convince. Many articles and speeches use persuasive writing to convince the audience about a specific topic he or she supports. In an article titled “What’s Wrong with the DREAM Act”, the author incorporates persuasive writing to develop the article into countering against the passing of the DREAM Act because the act is flawed and unfair. The author Peggy Sands goes further into the argument by including the reasons in which the DREAM Act will not be passed because of the discrimination, age broadness, and false marketing the act includes. These attributes categorize the article as persuasive writing because the author uses reasoning
Throughout my entire writing career I have always had difficulty writing. For one I have never enjoyed it because I am usually not interested in the topic. I also seem to get writers block half way thru whenever I write a paper. My final big problem with writing is that I always procrastinate before I have a paper due. My main problems with writing are procrastinating and having writers block.
Throughout high school, my English classes were based more around persuasive essays, rather than a variety of writings I have learned in English 1100. It seems like in high school all the teachers were concerned about was for the students to persuade people in our writings, in which ...
My first writing weakness was deciding what to write about. I had to read the essay topic over and over again to understand what it was asking for. I would worry that I wouldn’t understand the topic correctly. While writing the essay I was scared to get out of topic and write about something else I wasn’t supposed to write about. Another thing that would happen to me was that suddenly my mind would go blank and wouldn’t be able to think about what else I could write about. The essay I liked writing the most this semester was the second essay. I enjoyed making my own planet and how my alien had a quest with all the commercials I saw on the TV. The hardest essay I wrote this semester was the fourth and last essay. I got confused when I was writing the body paragraphs. This writing weakness impacted my life by showing me that I have trouble thinking about how I could write my essays. I think I should start reading books and maybe I could get a few ideas out of those books.
Persuasive professional writing uses persuasive writing; persuasive writing depends on grabbing the interest of the audience through convincing and or reasonable arguments. Fantasy is a type of genre that allows the reader to experience a place or world unlike any they have before. Fantasy lifts all our ideas of reality, and allows us to be a part of experiences that we would otherwise have no chance of taking part in. In both Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, the reader is given a window into magical worlds unlike ours. These worlds make me believe, but both Tolkien and Rowling add so much detail that these worlds become as real as walking down the street. In Harry Potter, the reader is introduced to the Harry Potter, the hero of the novel.
You can learn them. You can apply them. You can write every single day. Saying you’ve got writer’s block is a less blatant way of saying, “I don’t want to.” Here’s how I know

The language use is very important for persuasive writing, so you must make sure the language use is appropriate. A persuasive paper should have a clear well-structured introduction, body, conclusion, and a clear thesis, and you should try to establish things of interest between yourself and your readers. This is the type of writing style I have most difficulties with and is the least favorite of mine. Expository writing is a writing style that deals with factual information, it conveys information or explains a subject to readers. It is the writing style that is used the most in colleges, it is used to expose you to new subjects and to allow you to demonstrate your understanding of the subjects.
Persuasive Writing I believe that hunting is truly beneficial to the environment, not harmful. Others believe that the effects of hunting in the world is negative. They believe that the animals should have a right to life and to not be harvested for their meat. What they do not know, or are not considering, is that hunting is always going to be around because it is a way of life and is often used as a way of survival.
Fantasy literature is very important to read because it gives the reader the understanding of a character in a fantastical world or alternate universe. Regardless of the setting in which the book takes place, fantasy is still very important to read. For example, a writer can create the fantastical character any way they so choose. The writer can also make the character have a good side like a protagonist or as bad as they want more like an antagonist. It also depends on how the reader wants to understand the character because it doesn't matter, in that all fantasy is made up and for the most part fake or unrealistic.
At the beginning of the year, writing was not my strength. I never really liked it at all. Give me a math problem or something to do with engineering and I can figure it out, but forming words, sentences, paragraphs, and essays is not my strongest suit. Now, I've been through this process two times already, I look at a question and try not to answer it directly and reword it the best that I can, and I usually write way more than I intended to, because I never know when to stop. If I haven’t made that clear yet, I am at a loss for what else I do.
Persuasive text has similarities and differences with other types of text. Like other types of text, a persuasive text has a purpose. The purpose is to convince the reader of something. It is structured so that the reader can follow along easily, but there is an emphasis on providing details and evidence to convince the reader to believe something or do something.
Three words that describe my personal brand are collaborative, passionate, and strong-willed. I believe that these qualities are important to become someone who strives to accomplish goals, makes improvements, and see results. In a team setting, I intend to work well with everyone and embrace each team member’s strengths and weaknesses. I make sure that the team gets to know each other well and feels comfortable about sharing their ideas. In most situations, a group of diverse ideas are more valuable than a single idea because there is more thought and input in it.
