Looking back and evaluating each aspect of my report, I found my writing skills improving throughout each assignment. From my writing collection, during this course, I have chosen three writing samples. The first report entitles "Reflection", demonstrate ideation strategies. It shows how I structured my writing process from brainstorming to come up with my thoughts. My second report "Memo" helps to develop skills in composing effective workplace documents. Lastly, my final report demonstrates how an audience analysis enhances your ability to connect with readers and listeners through persuasive writing. I always had a positive attitude toward writing. This course has enhanced that ability. I now find myself writing for fun. When
I first came to this class I was a little skeptical. I have not attended school in a long time; however, this course has helped me regain confidence in my writing. This course has also, helped me understand the importance of having good communication skills in the workplace. The aspect of this course I find most challenging was brainstorming new ideas for my reports. I overcame the challenge by learning how to relax and let my ideas flow. Once I learn to concentrate on my topics, I had endless ideas. I will continue to work toward improving my writing skills by practicing what I learn during this course.
From the beginning, the first writing project assigned in class, a proposal, exposed to me the essential tools a writer needs to connect to the proper audience and defend my stance on the reform proposed. Overall, the course not only stressed the importance of drafts, but of peer review and instructor feedback as well; therefore, strengthening my knowledge
Entering this course I was worried because I have struggled with writing in the past, and writing has never been my strongest area. I feared writing classes in middle and high school, and had the same expectations for this course. I had wondered if I was ready for college English, and was worried that my skills and abilities would not be one the level they needed to be for college courses. My attitude and understanding of my writing process have both changed since the beginning of this semester. One thing that really helped my attitude and confidence was the fact that I was able to complete the assignments and get a decent grade. I was worried that I might not be able to do college level writing, and when I started completing the assignments and learning new ways to write my confidence and attitude changed. Another thing that really helped me throughout this course was that there was plenty of reading and information available to guide me through my assignments. I realized that there was more freedom when it comes to writing than I had experienced in high school. Being able to write more freely, and the freedom to choose what subjects I would write over made the assignments more enjoyable and easier to
Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.
Foundations of Writing is said to be one of, if not the most, difficult classes offered in the high school. I have thought about why I am taking the class multiple times. I have quite a few struggles when it comes to writing but I also have many strengths. I believe my writing skills can be improved and I can grow tremendously as a writer by taking this class. Good writing is something that is achieved by working hard and practicing a lot.

As this course in writing, for public administrators, comes to its conclusion, I have read provided materials, researched additional references and written various journal entries and analysis papers on topics that included writing skills and real world communications. The writing skill assignments provided the most interesting points but surprisingly, it was simple proof reading that proved the skill I need to spend more time mastering. This self-assessment will focus on the improvements I have made, points I have found interesting and the goals I have set to continue to improve my writing and communication skills.
My writing has really improved in this writing course. This course has slowly taught and is still teaching me how to not write like I am still in high school. I do not make as many grammar mistakes as I use to. I have become a better proofreader. I learned a process to creating a thesis statement that unlike my other methods actually worked. I also learned a lot about the mechanics of writing. But, there are a few of things that I do believe I crave the fortitude and ability to achieve, and that is what I believe I will acquire continuing at Virginia State University.
My overall writing skills are decent; there is an allowance for improvement. From an early age, I was required to write summarized essays. As children and young adults, my brother and I read an article from the newspaper daily and were required to give a brief report on what we read, and on occasion, it was in written form. Therefore, my critical thinking and writing skills are refined. I was exposed to the APA style of writing in my undergraduate and master degree courses. At times, I still must refer to my manual, although I still consider writing in APA style a strength.
Throughout this semester in English 102, I feel that my writing and analytical skills have improved. I have always had trouble in writing ever since I was young kid. In the class, I was able to complete multiple projects to practice my business writing skills. One of my major projects was to compare the significance rhetorical situations and rhetorical choices have on three specific marketed publications: Newsletters, Press Releases and Report and analyze how particular rhetorical situations and choices affect the three memos that were published at Walmart and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. I collaborated with a team of three to establish the basic structure of the report and researched the related information from the internet. We also researched the company and organization’s background to justify our assumptions. I worked the project with my team members on a regular basis and the final report explained the effectiveness of rhetorical strategies on Newsletters, Press Releases, and Reports quit well. My rhetorical analysis skills, rhetorical techniques as well as other business writing skills have trained well in this winter business writing class.

In a time of 140 characters, instant messages, and emails possessing good business writing skills are still important. When email or other written communication is sent, it is out there for people to judge. Correspondences not only reflect on the writer, but on their organization as well, so it’s essential to get it right. For my development goal, I decided to improve my written communication skills by completing several courses through our Judicial Online University (JOU). The eleven courses I took were very informative and complex, so I have divided this report into two sections: grammar skills and the writing process.
Writing is a powerful tool that people use all over the world. Writing allows people to communicate ideas, thoughts, stories, and more. Writing is more than just putting coherent words on a paper to make it a comprehensive text; it is about how the content is formatted, styled, and expressed. When a writer takes this into consideration, they are developing as a writer. As a writer, I would characterize myself as a moderate to good writer. Like any writer, I have my strengths, weaknesses, and lack of confidence at times.
