When it comes to writing, people have different techniques on how to start writing, how to organize the aesthetics of the text, or how to brainstorm. Along with those techniques, we also have to consider the type of writing the essay will be about, because different approaches are used on different topics. Brainstorming about the topic, then typing and letting my ideas flow to build sentences and paragraphs, then revising and editing are steps I take in my writing process. The act of brainstorming is something that comes natural to me, I consider myself a very creative person, so getting ideas to use on essays is not hard, After thinking about the topics, I try to personalize the paper in my life; sometimes that can be really distracting because I lose focus on my paper, but so far that has not evolved to be a major issue. Writing is a process I’ve grown to despise. Ever since grade school, I’ve had problems trying to express my ideas on paper. My writing process involves thinking about what’s being asked and trying to reflect my thoughts the best way I can on paper, but my thoughts don’t always come out as clear as I want them to be sometimes leaving a question not fully answered. My writing process isn’t a consistent set in stone process, but since being in ENC 1101 I always follow some of the same parameters such as revising my drafts, grammar usage and considering context and audience.
Anyone who is doing any type of writing piece has a process. They may not know it but it is there and it exists. It is one’s approach to their piece and how they go about accomplishing it. It has to do with how you write it, how many drafts you do, as well as your revision process if you even have one. My writing process however has room for improvement. A summation of my writing process consist of heavy planning, one draft, and little revisions. Recently, I have been writing quite a few essays and papers throughout my college experience. This entails, but not limited to, English, History, and Economics. My style of writing and methods have generally remained the same throughout the process. In this assignment, I will be discussing how I prepare to start a paper, what my thoughts are through the process, and my strengths and weaknesses of what my final drafts look like.
I am sitting in my bed, thinking about my process of writing as I am trying to go through it. It seems the more I think about it, the less I understand it. When I am writing, I don’t think. Which I know, sounds bad. But, I spend every single moment of every single day over thinking, over analyzing, and over assuming every aspect of my life. When I’m writing, I’m free from that for just a little bit. Until of course, my hands stop typing or the pencil (no pens- never pens) stops moving, then I’m right back on the carousel that is my brain. A process is used to make a task simpler by dividing the task into parts that can be done individually. When you start writing an essay from beginning from end, you get stuck figuring out how to write introduction and it discourages to finish the essay before you have started. Instead start writing the body paragraphs, conclusion and then write the introduction. The first draft is never perfect visit writing centers for help or ask others to help revise your essay. Also reading your paper out loud gives you a better understanding what the paper sounds like and corrections that need to be made. Often times when we read a paper in our minds we skip over the mistakes or correct mistakes without knowing it. Correcting your essay many times will help complete your ideas in your essay, this helps the reader to be able to follow the ideas in the essay and not get lost. By doing these steps you better understand why you are writing an essay and the next steps to take.

My personal method of writing papers was very simple. I would spend some time just thinking about how I wanted the paper to be structured. I will admit that the first paragraph always took as long to write as the rest of essay. When I finally finished the essay I would read over it and run it through paper rater. When it came to the research paper I did almost all of my research before I ever started the paper. I would look up information as needed it from that point on.
When doing my writing process there are a lot of this I like to do and do not like to do. To begin my writing process my environment has to be exceptionally tidy/clean. I like my space to be moderately lit, meaning not too much of a bright light and neither too dull. Most times I will not play music in the background, but if I do it will be soft, coffee shop or jazz music with no lyrics. I normally like to sit upright on my bed with a cushion behind my back or on a soft rotating chair at a desk. My environment has to be warm and smell nice. I also prefer when I have a snack and a bottle of water close by to keep me motivated while doing my writing process. I cannot be around a loud environment or too many friends unless they are all quiet and doing work also.
Also, once you get into the writing rhythm, you can start multitasking by writing and listening to a full 10 minutes of surfer dude from Spongebob Squarepants laughing.
