What has brought me to this class and what do I expect to gain you may ask. You also may wonder what is my background in writing, or even my strengths and weaknesses with such. Follow along with me as I tell my story of composition and me. Most people to whom know me well will tell you I disked writing, but never knew why. I have never considered myself an accomplished or even an elegant writer. I have struggled to put words on paper and make them sound somewhat attractive or interesting. Spelling, grammar, and punctuation were a struggle for me even back in school, but I managed to get by. Now at 40 years old I am haunted once again with my fears of writing by choice. Over the 16 years that I worked with MedFlight I have written a few articles for our newsletter and even had a safety article published. Never have I felt my articles were written well and took a long time to get the final draft completed. My last article I completed was last semester for biology class and before that over 2 years ago. I usually shy away from writing and strategically place myself into situations I don’t have to write. I am to the point in my life where I need to get over my fear of writing. …show more content…
I started college for the first time ever in August last year. My desire was to higher my education and better my writing and communication skills. I figured that my best and easiest option is get a degree in emergency medical services technology. COTC offers credit for work experience and all i’m required to complete are the electives for the program. The electives have pushed me out of my customary range of familiarity and forced me to learn how to communicate better and soon write better. My hope for this class is I will understand how to better structure my writings and not be fearful. I also hope that my speed of development and structure improve. Being able to put words to paper flawlessly and effortlessly would also be an outstanding
Entering this course I was worried because I have struggled with writing in the past, and writing has never been my strongest area. I feared writing classes in middle and high school, and had the same expectations for this course. I had wondered if I was ready for college English, and was worried that my skills and abilities would not be one the level they needed to be for college courses. My attitude and understanding of my writing process have both changed since the beginning of this semester. One thing that really helped my attitude and confidence was the fact that I was able to complete the assignments and get a decent grade. I was worried that I might not be able to do college level writing, and when I started completing the assignments and learning new ways to write my confidence and attitude changed. Another thing that really helped me throughout this course was that there was plenty of reading and information available to guide me through my assignments. I realized that there was more freedom when it comes to writing than I had experienced in high school. Being able to write more freely, and the freedom to choose what subjects I would write over made the assignments more enjoyable and easier to
Writing is a way in which a person can express their thoughts and ideas through the use of words. Everybody has their own writing styles. Some may consider theirs as inspirational while others think of it to be bad. Writing requires a lot of patience and time. In my case, writing has never been my favorite thing to do. I am no Shakespeare and I never will be, writing has always made me feel uncomfortable. In the past, I had always considered writing to be one of the most difficult tasks. I often wrote about topics that were not of my interest. I rarely did any writing out of school or for leisure as most people do. I only wrote because the teacher asked us to. Writing has always been forced onto me. Even though my writing isn't that great, I've felt that I've never been given the freedom to express my voice. Academic writing has always made me anxious. And, anxiety had resulted in my procrastination. Even though I consider writing to be one of the toughest tasks, I've felt that giving myself enough time to think allows me to do better. Silence helps me think beyond horizons. However, the fear of impressing someone, the anxiety and frustration is what makes me a developing writer.
Over the years of my schooling, I have gradually developed my writing preparation to help me become a better writer. I continue to find ways to improve my writing abilities by working on my weaknesses and by incorporating the feedback I receive from my peers and my instructors into my essays. At times, I still struggle when preparing to start my essay, but with precise and organized planning and obtaining the help of others, I am certain that I will become more proficient in my writing
Throughout my entire writing career I have always had difficulty writing. For one I have never enjoyed it because I am usually not interested in the topic. I also seem to get writers block half way thru whenever I write a paper. My final big problem with writing is that I always procrastinate before I have a paper due. My main problems with writing are procrastinating and having writers block.
I wrote rhetorically for the first time, put my writing online, and gain a new understanding of writing. Of course, I learned about MLA format and citing, which is more important than it seems to be. Also, realized that my writing performance can be improved immensely based on spending more time on my assignments. As well as my grammar, general flow, and the maturity of my writing enhanced thanks to this class. The main reason I became a better writer was because my teacher. Ms. Perkins was one of the reasons why I did well this semester in English. She would always tailor her class to whatever I would need to be successful. She taught what was needed to have a strong base to my writing that was to draft, revise, edit and proofread. Also, she focused on grammar and format
The first and main reason why I don’t recognize myself as a writer is because writing is difficult for me. All the time I want to write about something I have trouble to concentrate on it. By concentrat...
In summary, I had an enjoyable time in my first college English class. I pushed myself as diligently as I could and learned much more than I thought I would. In addition to, my strengths grew stronger and my weaknesses improved as well. I acknowledge I still have some techniques and skills to work on; however, I am willing to put the time in and cannot wait to take English in the future. Writing is an everlasting skill that will be an enormous asset to me; in addition to my future classes, and my career as
I am not the kind of person who talks or writes much. Putting my thoughts on papers is something I have always struggled with doing. I believe this class will help me improve on transferring my thoughts to paper, in an organized fashion. I look forward to becoming a better writer because of this class.
This class has enlightened me on the stages of the writing process. The organization of thoughts has helped me to improve along with being more confidant. The beginning of any writing essay is a hard thing for me I take awhile to gather my thoughts and ideas. Putting them on paper and explaining myself has improved tremendously. I still need more explanation in my essays along with the technical corrections.
When I was about 4 years old, my family was on our annual trip to Mexico, and I remember staying at my grandmother's house, and her going to her chest of drawers and pulling out a worn out book. She told me to sit down, and that she was going to read me a story she would read to my brother and sister when they were smaller. I honestly don’t remember any of the details about the book but what I could remember that the book was so worn out that it was held together by pieces of tape. Even though I may not have understood half of the things that were in the book at the time, that was my first encounter with reading that I could think of. After that, every time I saw a book with pictures, I would “read” it to myself, by saying to myself
A good 99% of students have seen, written, or read at least one word during their time in school. And I myself, am no different. As an extremely studious student, who has come to appreciate the art of pen and paper, I may say that writing is quite the adventure. A roller coaster of many emotions, anxiety, jubilation, dismay, or even astonishment as one completes an essay. I recall one of my first encounters with the world of words, meeting my first essay back in elementary school, 3rd grade, the summer of ‘09, my fabulous teacher, Mrs. Culp, decided we should write about our summer vacation.
When I received my pre-registration paperwork at the end of my tenth grade year, I automatically knew what English class I wanted to take. Many people had spoken to me about the class and explained that it was a more challenging curriculum, but I knew that it would help prepare me for my journey to university. This class was English Composition I. I was delighted to be taking a college class when I was just a mere junior in high school, even though I knew that it would be more difficult than an average high school course. When the class began, my writing style was simple, and I thought that I could breeze through because that had worked for me in the past.
The problem that I encountered which lead to me writing papers that were not both credible and good written was that I used to do a lot of procrastination. As a result, I would get poor grades on my papers. Presently, I can start doing my research early, consult various sources, understand the vocabulary and understand the different types of writing. My writing is more interesting that
Writing has always played a salient role in my life. I use writing as a way to express myself and share my thoughts and ideas. My first major writing assignment made me realize the crucialness writing. I was in my sixth grade Language Arts class when my teacher assigned us a huge poetry project. We had to write a book featuring different types of poems (i.e. haikus, limerick), while also incorporating figurative language.
Composing adequately is not something that individuals are great at right when they begin, and now and then, it does get muddled, however that is the excellence of free composition, no standards, and no regulations, yet it will assemble logically with each article. In no way, shape or form am I flawless essayist, however the way I compose may be unique in relation to everyone. Once in a while, I run with a thought for around two pages, then in the event that I like it, I begin arranging the points of interest, then when I am carried out I begin composing focused around my free composition, and stay concentrate on the point. Yet I have created new abilities with composing. I understood that composition viably takes a considerable measure of practice, and I must not get demoralized when I got a terrible review in a written work task. It basically implies that I have to
