I constantly find it a challenge to write about myself. To write me, I, myself- is always more difficult than it first seems. However, writing and storytelling forever seem to go hand in hand, and I know I have stories to tell and the ability to tell the stories of others. To be able to communicate those ideas, stories, and experiences in a way that can convey all the most important themes from these topics is my dream. For this very reason, learning the skills to expand my writing and create relatable content would benefit my goals. The School of Communication at Ithaca seems the perfect fit for me to create my own written content and learn how to turn that content into visual works. I was drawn to Ithaca College for their remarkable communication programs. Not only are there so many different concentrations offered, but all these programs incorporate the versatile aspects of communication, as well as specialized studies within the major. I’m confident that the major I chose will not only …show more content…
Ideally, I would like to work at Disney Channel or PBS and coordinate scripts for children’s shows on Disney Junior or even Sesame Street. As specific as it seems, when I graduated with my Associates in Liberal Arts I did so with a concentration in Early Childhood. Knowing that having a background in what is developmentally appropriate for young children and also having a firm grasp on how children learn and retain information, would only further aid me in creating and producing content that really speaks to young children as well as help them grow. However, I know there is so much more for me to experience, and I welcome the opportunity to work at a range of television networks that produce anything from children’s media, to the comedy shows that I personally watch on networks like FOX and ABC. Truly, any profession that immerses me in the production of a creative work will fulfill my
Writing doesn’t come easily to me, which must make me a glutton for punishment. It has taken me years of training, learning to structure an essay and unlearning to begin again. Only since attending HSU am I realizing how exceptional my writing has become. Over the course of two semesters, I have seen my writing expand and grow. While I still adhere to the training I received in high school, I am excited to now take these tools and develop my own unique style in the years to come.
During the first major assignment the autobiographical essay, “Literacy Experiences made a Well-rounded Person”, I was skeptical about the writing process because I was never being excellent at forming my ideas together. “I believe that I’m at least competent as a writer as I can usually fluidly express ideas, but those technical skills will be even further crucial once I enter college and the adult world. The sooner I can learn these skills to better my writing, the better prepared I’ll be for any writing situation I find myself in the future.” When I entered the class of Front Range Composition on January 10th, I was armed only with my expectations of what I hoped to learn and the basic writing knowledge I had gained from other classes. Writing had never been my strong suit in my academic years, but I was capable enough to work my way through and still pull off an A in the class. Not this class.
My purpose as a writer is to make myself even more improved in my writing skills. I want to extend my vocabulary and learn how to make enhanced writing. I hope to accomplish making writing easier for me as a student. I want to learn what new things I'm capable of doing with writing short stories and essays. I'm trying to improve my writing so I can become college and workforce ready. My audience is my teacher. I know that my audience will guide me in the right direction in order to make my writing worth reading. My teacher will help my writing skills improve by telling me what I need to fix and what I need to improve. This will inform the choices I make by trying different things to make myself better. Listening to others advice about how to become better at writing will also inform the choices I make.
) My earliest memory of writing is from kindergarten when we had to rewrite a story that the teacher wrote on the whiteboard. I remember not really liking it because of how long it took me to write one sentence. I remember feeling so defeated because I once wrote the wrong story all together. Everyone in my class made fun of me as a result.

My First Experience of Writing and Reading As all of us know, humans are almost impossible to remember those detail things when they were in childhood period. Commonly, they only remember those memories that make them happy, sad, scared, or anything memorable. Lucky me to remember the first time I was studying to write properly because it was quite funny and the first time I was reading, it's so memorable to me. I have learned for the first time at the age of 3,I was in playgroup.
My relationship with writing has been an adventure having both its highs and lows—it has been complex. Yet through it all, I have been excited to learn, expand my vocabulary, learn new styles, and contribute to the ever-growing collection of literary work so that someone one day would benefit from my writing.
I enjoy writing and am confident in my abilities as a writer, using proper grammar, being organized with my ideas and having a broad vocabulary. Writing is a practice, and although I am confident in my abilities, there are certain aspects with which I struggle. The biggest aspect that I struggle with is transitioning between either sentences or paragraphs. I find it difficult to find the right words to piece the sentences or paragraphs together. Another difficulty is my precision or my level of abstraction.
When I was in elementary school, I was diagnosed with dyslexia. Reading and writing were challenging for me despite my comprehension being above grade level. Because reading and writing play a part in every subject of school, all of of my grades suffered; I would take almost twenty minutes to copy the warm-up from the board during math class. It also took me so long to read books, I had to use audio books in order to keep up with the class and participate in discussions. I would have stay up until midnight to make should I got all my homework in and understood it myself so I could keep up with my classes. As a result of my difficulties in school, I almost stayed back each year. However, I was lucky; I had parents who were willing to fight for me and made sure I received the support I needed because they believed in me.
for this writing assignment, I’m going to go over some of my experiences that I had with writing. I’m also going to talk about my strengths and weaknesses with writing. As well as some of my goals for this class. also, to explain how writing is important to my major and to the field that I will go to.
My knowledge on my own writer’s identity has enabled me to understand how I am a part of this culture, whether that be writing blog posts, posting on social media or writing a 2000-word essay. This perception of my own writer’s identity will allow me to teach my own students about the importance of life-long reading and writing (Loane & Muir, 2017). My discoveries about the importance of writing today, and how much my writer’s identity has developed from previous schooling experiences, my beliefs, and my attitude towards writing helps me understand the need to positively reinforce writing in the younger generation. My own writer’s identity was developed through majority of personal experiences and as teachers it is important we allow students the opportunities to significantly tap into their own personal experiences by sharing our own (Loane & Muir, 2017). I often found sharing my work daunting at a young age, therefore
When thinking about writing, people don’t often think about the technicalities behind it. When thinking about what they want to write, there are few things they think about; what they are writing about, and who they are addressing. Genre and Audience are one of the most important things an author can think about. Rhetorical situations are something that a writer doesn’t have to worry about too much because it is simply the way that people communicate. It becomes even more tricky when writing about yourself. Sometimes in can be hard to bring up things about yourself. Other times it’s just hard to bring up a person’s past, and to even think about it. As a writer, you have to be able to put distance from yourself, and have a clear mind when doing it. One of the most important things that every person needs to have when writing is a clear mind. Leena Sen, author of a Communication Skills book, states “Behind good writing lies the power of clear thinking. Writing becomes cluttered and is devoid of clarity of meaning when the thought process goes awry. Clear thinking leads to clear writing” (177). Writing is not an easy skill for everyone, there are a few roadblocks that get in the way when writing.
My very first semester I was taking WRIT 101, and I was excited to get back to writing, since at this point in my life I had written anything in years. I was usually quite good with research topics, or scripts where I was never the focus, but I hadn’t counted on was a course load of personal essays. For the first time, I was struggling with writing. My grades didn’t reflect the struggle, I put forth the effort, and always got my assignments done, but writing about myself had proven to be a tougher act than I initially counted on. Throughout my life, I had always focused on telling the stories of others, fictional characters or people that I had known, but seldom did I write about myself, how I felt or about my life experiences.
