Recommended: Difficulties with using the English language
I enjoy writing and am confident in my abilities as a writer, using proper grammar, being organized with my ideas and having a broad vocabulary. Writing is a practice, and although I am confident in my abilities, there are certain aspects with which I struggle. The biggest aspect that I struggle with is transitioning between either sentences or paragraphs. I find it difficult to find the right words to piece the sentences or paragraphs together. Another difficulty is my precision or my level of abstraction. I will write vaguely and repetitiously at times, most particularly when I am not in the mood for writing, or cannot get focused on the piece. My experiences, and the feedback provided, have led me to believe that these are my strengths …show more content…
I received good marks in my English courses, with my essays being returned with little to no errors or corrections. I have been told that I am forthright with my information and that it is well articulated. I use the past tense because I have not written any essays or other pieces in several years, and when you stop practicing, there is a tendency to lose some of your skills.
One of my teachers in high school gave me a useful handout on organizational writing. As part of that handout, there was a page I was told to use for my essays. There were several blanks that needed to be filled in, but on the side told us what would go there. These labelled sections were called title, transition sentence number one, conclusion, thesis and so on. I have followed those guidelines throughout my high school years, and have received positive feedback on my essay organization and structure.
I wrote an essay last year for my Saint Mary’s professor about the meaning of a poem, My Papa’s Waltz by Theodore Roethke. I wrote this assignment the night before it was due. Poetry is not something that I enjoy, much less writing about it. I found it very difficult to focus on writing about the theme and other requirements of the assignment. Upon receiving the essay after being handed in, I found numerous remarks, one of them being about
The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning, revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties, and helped to inspire confidence in my skills.
Over my career of schooling my writing has changed dramatically at times and very little at others. Through my years of schooling people have determined my main weaknesses and strengths that I should work on with my writing. My biggest weakness is writing introductions and conclusions they must be so complicated and require so much thought to be defined as good. I excel at writing body paragraphs and explaining all the facts that back up your main ideas though.
Being told to write any kind of essay is not an easy task. I have never felt confident about what I am writing about. Since I was young, I have always struggled to put all of my thoughts into an essay. However, some of writing skills have improved from being a weakness to becoming a strength of mine. Throughout this course, I have struggled with developing an idea I am trying to deliver, and I have also struggled with sentence structure and punctuation; however, I have made some progress in being able to write precise, articulate sentences and organize my thoughts through the paper, I still have to work on improving my writing skills.
The first and main reason why I don’t recognize myself as a writer is because writing is difficult for me. All the time I want to write about something I have trouble to concentrate on it. By concentrat...
“I believe that I’m at least competent as a writer as I can usually fluidly express ideas, but those technical skills will be even further crucial once I enter college and the adult world. The sooner I can learn these skills to better my writing, the better prepared I’ll be for any writing situation I find myself in the future.” When I entered the class of Front Range Composition on January 10th, I was armed only with my expectations of what I hoped to learn and the basic writing knowledge I had gained from other classes. Writing had never been my strong suit in my academic years, but I was capable enough to work my way through and still pull off an A in the class. Not this class.

Some of the complications I face with writing is not using enough body paragraphs, forgetting a thesis statement, lack of word choice, punctuation errors, etc. I am unaware at times of my mistakes, but I always try to correct them. I have also come to terms with my strengths and weaknesses as a writer.... ... middle of paper ...
Papers are written on a need to complete basis and with that in mind it is occasionally hard to differentiate our professional voice versus our laid back conversational voice. Over the course of this essay I am going to tell you what my strengths and weaknesses are, my expectations on how to become a better writer, and my step by step on how to achieve my expectations. Generally, a writer’s strengths and weaknesses vary; however, mine are fairly common. My greatest strengths include following rubrics and
In a developing mind, such as a child’s mind, reading and writing should be a fundamental part in their life. Being able to read and write is the gateway to learning other subjects such as math and science, because without the skill of being able to read and write, nothing else would make any sense. Personally, in my own experiences, I was always prefer reading and writing over math and science because when I was younger I had quite an imaginative brain and a good way to express that was through reading and writing. I believe that since I had more opportunities to read and write rather than math and science during my childhood lead me to be better at reading and writing. I have memories of reading and writing being a part of my childhood life
I’ve always struggle with this on my writing. I rather tell someone what I want to say and let them write it down. Even though, I have improve a bit, I’d say I still have trouble using the right verb, noun or with run-ons sentence. On my graded essays, I would see common errors like not using the right subject-verb or passive verb. I need to work with sentence structure in order to improve this area.
When writing, there are steps the writer should use for a well-structured essay paper. These four steps are:
The smell of Mom’s cooking wafted around the modest apartment. The blazing sound came from the t.v. as my little brother watched. In an hour Dad would be home. Then we could all eat.
People find it hard to admit their weaknesses, but I am a proud announce of them! Having weaknesses makes a stronger writer by wanting to better my writing. One of my weaknesses includes having trouble with staying in the same tense. I tend to jump around with my verb tenses and find it difficult to stay in the past when wanting to talk about how you feel at the same time. However, I have learned you can include your thoughts in present tense in your conclusion. I trouble with comma splice and sentence fragments. I never know if I am either leaving out information or including too much; on the same hand, I place commas where I would pause as if I was speaking. Which brings me to my next point; however not knowing where to put a comma could include confusion on me. In addition, I struggle with broadening my vocabulary. I still have vocabulary word choices as a high school student. Texting has a very high factor in my vocabulary and I will be the first to admit that. With the resources I have gained access to I will immediately take
Dear Professor Heller, At the start of the semester, I had made a personal goal for myself which was to improve my English verbal and writing skills. I feel after working on different essays, writing pieces and finally the research paper, I have learned a lot and have become a much better writer. Over the last few weeks, I have also felt that I have accomplished my goal of becoming better at my English verbal skills as I made it a point to practice a lot as English is not my first language and I have always struggled with proper pronunciation and grammar.
I have fairly basic experience with academic writing. I excel in writing essays for courses in history, english, and art history, in high school as well as my first few years of college. I have experience with many historical and analytical papers throughout college and high school. I am able to write long (10 pages) papers with efficiency and organization and have always been commended for my writing skills. I am also an avid creative writer. I write a lot of lyrics/poems in my free time as well as a collection of short stories. Although I have had nothing published in the past, I dream of becoming an author and getting my writing out to the public. My strengths as a writer are my creativity, organization, and flow. I am able to think
