Recommended: Experiences in working with children
Once I did complete my volunteer work I felt like I was really prepared, knew what I was doing, and I did a good job. I felt really prepared because I have experience with work with kids before. Before the kids actually showed up from after school. Mr. Crawford explained and talked to be about the different kids that are going to be there. He went over some other things with me as well. When the kids got there, I helped past out their afternoon snack. I helped with some of their homework, and later I got to play games with them all. The kids there were funny and I mean very funny because the whole entire time that was with them. They were making jokes and telling stories about their zday as well. It felt like I didn’t have to watch T.V. when
volunteering is a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task. In this report i will talk about the different types of volunteering in the:
With the help of the Me To We team at Queen Street Public School, I volunteered at a local food bank. The experience was quite educational and fascinating. We encouraged staff and students to donate non-perishable food items for the "We Scare Hunger" campaign. This was definitely a highlight of my grade five year because I felt very humble and warm-hearted by doing a simple act of kindness. In addition, I was chosen to participate in the "Intergenerational" program. This was created so that grade five students can learn more from the elders of the Burton Manor senior home. We had the privilege to learn about their history and interact with them through several educational and fun activities. If accepted, I will indeed join several clubs and teams to contribute my time and talents to make the school an exciting learning
Going into camp I knew we would be helping out a school and I did not think I would have fun or get anything out of the experience, but I was so wrong. Even when I was on my hands and knees stripping wax off a classroom floor, I was having a great time just knowing how much my work was helping Ms. Kim and Cody and everyday I looked forward to going back. We later found out that Cody was able to take a week long vacation because we got so much of his work done! After finding that out, I knew I had helped make a difference in Cody's life which made me feel so humble and honored that I could do that for him. During our work, Ms. Kim told us that around 70% of the Black Fox Elementary students live in poverty and cannot wait to come to school so they escape their troubles at home. Ms. Kim told us that those kids were going to be so excited to see how clean we got their school to be and I wish I could have seen their faces when they saw what we had done. I now look forward to volunteering and helping others because I know that I am making a difference in someone's life, which is a humbling and amazing feeling that I hope everyone can experience one
I was really excited to go the first day because I live kids and feel like I understand them. The first day, the kids were so excited to meet me and the other mentors. I got to interact with them and understand their perceptive in life as kids. I have only gone twice to the middle school, but I feel like I make a differences in those children’s’ live because my and the other mentors may be their only person who will listen. I feel like I can understand them, because I know how I was felt as a kid. I remember as a kid, I always felt like I had no rights and no one listen to me I was just a kid. I remembered as a kid, always wanting to a grown up so I could do something important. After, those two days at that middle school, I believe God is directing me to work with children. I have looked into adoptions and the foster care system. I am not hundred percent sure what I want to do, but I know that I want to work with children and be a voice for them. In the foster care system, social workers have the opportunity to provide care to children who are sexual abuse or neglect. I believe God wants me to be in a career where I can make kids feel safe and that they matter in life. Also, if I decided to work at an adoption agents, I will have the opportunity to give children a safe home with a loving family. So, if I purse a career as a child welfare social worker, I know that I will be
I felt as if I was able to make a change even though it wasn't a major change. I also loved working with kids of all ages ranging from kindergarten to 8th grade. They all brought a different personality which I enjoyed. Overall, volunteering anywhere helps someone make a change in someones life and their own even though they may not notice it. There are many people who are in need of volunteers all the time and not many people get the opportunity to volunteer during their lifetime.
It was so nice to be back at Discovery, for my third summer volunteering. It hadn’t felt like summer until I walked into the door and saw all the preschoolers. This year it was very different from the past 2 years because there were so many new kids and only about four from the last summer. The kids were all very excited to meet me and were very welcoming. It was nice to see some of the same teachers, but there were new teachers as well. All the kids came up to me to find out my name and to ask if I was a new teacher. I especially loved it when I introduced myself to one of the kids and he responded “Kalala, that’s a silly name”. It was amazing to watch the kids playing and learning and having the chance to watch how they interact with one another. They’re so nice
I learned about the importance of giving back at the age of 11yr old and putting the very important needs of others in front of my own. Volunteering in a homeless shelter at a young age opened my eyes. Where I was placed to give food, clothes, money & hygiene products to people in need. Where would I be right now without the help of God, my mother, family& friends and the church community”. Giving a helping hand to the people in the community is Something we should always do. In the ("bible Acts 20:35 says in everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the lord Jesus himself said: it is more blessed to give than to receive"). Having a compassionate heart for the community blesses the congregation.
Over this past summer, I had the opportunity to volunteer with my high school cheerleading team’s mini summer camp. The mini camp is geared toward students entering in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. The high school cheerleaders teach them a dance, sideline cheers, and cheerleading games. There were also opportunities to have snack time and make their own cheer bow! This was a wonderful experience to help behind the scenes more because I really got a true sense about how much planning and effort putting together this camp had required. I helped my coach by editing her agenda for each of the three days. She said to look for any “gaps” or if something could be done in a better order.
The first time I started volunteering was last year and it changed my perspective towards a lot of things; from the way of looking at people to how my mind works. The impact it's had on my life has been immense and life changing. From there, I constantly tried getting myself involved in giving a hand and at the same time, to widen my knowledge.
I am grateful for the opportunity to volunteer at the elementary school. It opened my eyes to a few of the problems in our communities. I was able to make others aware of those problems through volunteering and being proactive. I am going to continue with the program for as long as I am able to do so. If only we had millions of these programs across the globe, many other children would be able to benefit and develop the skills to succeed educationally.
Volunteering enables an individual to make a positive impact on his or her community, while empowering the individual to better his or her life. This summer, I had the opportunity to volunteer at many diverse locations. From the hospital to the local library, I truly value my experience and treasure everything it has thought me. Volunteering lets us experience and learn things that we otherwise would not have learned; volunteering opens doors for us that we may not have been able to open before. Volunteering provides us with guidance and tolerance which we may use in the future to aid us in our decisions. At first glance, volunteering may seem to only benefit those who are helped, but on a deeper level, one can realize that volunteering benefits the volunteer as much as, if not more than, those who are helped. Not only does volunteering make a difference in one’s community, but it also helps the volunteer become a smarter, happier, friendlier and more caring individual.
At first I didn't think that the kids were getting anything from the reading, but I was wrong. One day as I came into the classroom I saw a little girl waiting for me with a little book, I never expected to see her sitting in her chair waiting for me, that made me feel great. I don't have any memory of been read aloud by anybody when I was young, but I know that these little kids will. This will put a warm felling inside my heart, and I will always remember the first group of kids that I have read to. Like I said before, this was my first time doing community service but its not going to be the last. I'm willing to give to a day of a week to go read to kids, I know that this is going to keep on being a great experience.
Thousands of homeless animals are looking for forever homes in America. Volunteering is a great way to give to your community and socialize the animals at the shelters. Working with dogs and cats that have not had good starts in their lives helps them trust again. It helps animals get over the trauma they have had before they went to the shelter. Socializing makes the animal more adoptable and they are given a chance to get forever homes. Volunteer at your local humane society 's and help out the animals like I have worked with in shelters.
A reflection of my volunteering experience can be summarized in two words: Life-changing. It is hard to explain the feelings that occur when you involve yourself in selfless acts for your community, such as volunteering. There is a feeling in your heart that you cannot ignore, maybe it is the happiness you feel or the overflow of emotions in helping others. In other words, it is a feeling in which you want to share with others. Maybe with a friend, maybe a classmate, maybe a family member, or maybe even a stranger. Either way, spreading how life-changing volunteering can be is a great start to making a positive change in your community by simply by involving others.
A common misconception about volunteering is that it only helps the cause. Often times that aspect is the only part that is highlighted when the topic of donating time comes up. There is a different side of volunteering though. Many volunteers donate their time to help better the community they live in and the people that live in it. When they choose to do this they not only help others but they are also helping better themselves. Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities.
