I’ll never forget the time I went to the Los Angeles Zoo. When my family went there it was December 2016, and I was with my dad, mom, and sister. We went to California because we were going to a concert, but we had some extra time before the concert to do something. So we went to the Los Angeles Zoo. We left Eyota at two in the afternoon. It took two hours to get to the airport. At that point we had two more hours to get through security and have some food before the plane. At five-thirty we started boarding. I was getting excited to get out of the cold and snowy weather. It took four hours to get to California, but it went by fast. I just listened to some music and read a few chapters of my book. When the pilot was getting ready to land, I looked outside to see a ton of lights over the city. “What are those lights?” my sister asked. “I don't know, they’re probably just street lights,” my dad said not too confidently. “No, that’s traffic,” my sister said, “that’s a lot of traffic.” My dad and I didn’t believe her until we got close enough to actually see that the lights were in fact traffic. When we landed it took about one hour to get from the airport to our hotel that was only …show more content…
When my mom finally caught up with us we were in a new area. We saw peacocks, coyotes, a ram and a zebra. As we headed through the zoo, we saw these weird creatures that were very skinny and ate leaves standing on their hind legs. Later we saw giraffes, one of the giraffes was a baby so it wasn’t very tall. Surprisingly, the giraffes came really close to us. Then we went into this area where there were baboons and jaguars. Finally, we went down a long path and it felt like it was going on forever, but on the way down there was a certain smell that was strong and sweet. We finally realized that the smell was a churro truck. As we were getting churros I looked at the map and saw that we were right by the
This paper reviews and analyzes three main issues with the first one being leadership. Other sub-issues involve lack of vision, coercive leadership style, using taxpayer’s money for personal benefit and irresponsible top management. The organizational structure, mixed communication, and no clear indication to who to report to is the second. The third being communication, this paper tackles lack of the ability to speak about the actual problems in fear of being ostracized; if you’re not with us; you’re against us. We suggest a solution based on our SWOT analysis, star bursting, brainstorm, mind map, and rational decision making tool. With the use of these five tools we hope to help solve the problem at hand by making the city zoo a more engaging and dynamic experience for both employees and the public.
I visited the Sacramento Zoo during the afternoon of April 21, 2017. The weather was wonderful, sunny, warm, and there was a slight breeze. It got a bit more breezy the longer I was there. Visiting the zoo to observe primates allowed me to become a little more aware of how primatologists study primates. Even though I’ve been to many different zoos several different times, I never realized how many primates were associated with the zoos, as well as the variety of primates in the zoos. The Sacramento Zoo has eight different primates, all in different classifications, superfamilies, or subfamilies. While observing the Chimpanzees, White-Handed Gibbon, Mongoose Lemur, White-Faced Saki, and the Wolf’s Guenon I could see the differences
In 2009, my parents and I decided to travel to San Antonio, Texas for vacation. My parents and I have traveled there before, but we enjoyed it so much that we decided to go back. With many places to see and do; my parents thought that we should go to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. It was at this theme park, where something happened that I would never forget.
As my family and I walked into the plane, we were excited. The plane ride to jamaica stopped in L.A. and, after that, it went to jamaica. When we arrived in Jamaica it was really hot, but it was wet. I immediately took off my sweater I was wearing on the plane. We took a bus to our hotel. Then we started swimming in the water park. Every night there was a show in the main stage. The next day we woke up early to go to chukka. It was awesome. We saw a great house, rode on horses, and did a challenge course. After we came back from Chukka, we went to the water park and swimming pool at the hotel. Then we ate at fresh, which we went most of the time. The next day we woke up earlier to go to the dolphin cove. The bus was an hour late, but the wait
We were tasked on creating promotional collateral for the Oakland Zoo. This meant creating a brand new logo and identity for the zoo which proved to be harder than I though because the logo needs to represent the whole organization in the simplest way possible. The Oakland Zoo’s older identity seemed outdated to me so I wanted to revive their logo and bring it to a modern audience. For the brochure the main problem that I have isolated was how to get the parent’s attention, who would eventually pay for the spring break camp. While for the poster, the problem was how to get the viewer’s attention when passing by the poster on the street at varying speeds.
While I was doing my preceptorship, it was like nothing I’ve ever witnessed before. The lead Veterinary technician, Nicole gave me a wonderful tour of the building. Right before the tour she said that every day at 9:45am they have a little huddle with each department. During this huddle, each department shares what they have going on today, who is going to have a walkie talkie on them today, and who is going to be where. On the tour she explained to me how many different programs they do with all the animals. Also they don’t just work with dogs and cats. They have dogs, cats, pocket pets, and also birds. Going to the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley was an awesome experience. First of all this place was huge. They have several different boarding rooms for all kinds of different animals.
In the movie heart warming movie We Bought a Zoo, directed by Cameron Crowe, Benjamin Mee goes through life trying to fix everything. In the beginning of the movie we see Benjamin in the principal's office with his son, Dylan, trying to fix a squeaky window , *Frame’s a little loose. I…Just give me one second.* (Crowe, XIXX) Even though it’s not neccessary, Benjamin tries to fix it. At the time he’s trying to fix the window, Benjamin and his son, Dylan, are about to have a meeting with the principal because of Dylan's behavior issues. This demonstrates that he deals with his problems in life trying to fix them. Furthermore, Benjamin still tries to fix things when Buster the bear escapes and he says, * Buster, this is a big gun and I don’t wanna
At the beginning of this course we tried to define the word spectacle, we came up with such ideas as catches attention, large, inauthentic, wide coverage, etc.(first day class) finally noticing that it is difficult to pin point the exact definition to a spectacle. For this research paper I decided to focus my research and analysis on Zoos and how they have become spectacles in today’s society. I will analyze the zoos myself, as well as relate the spectacles of zoos to some theories such as Umberto Eco’s hyper reality, and Jean Baudrillard’s theory of Simulation. I will end by focusing on some specific instances with the idea of animals the spectacles for human enjoyment.
This 4th of July I went to L.A. with my roommate to visit his family. I had been promising myself that I would go to the Queen Mary in Long Beach for the last three times I was in L.A. and this time I was determined to go. So After I had seen the fireworks at the La Verne high school.
I was smacked in the face by a gust of hot, humid Texas air as I found my way off the bus. The once brisk morning was getting hotter by the second. My friend Kristi and I looked towards our left and there she was, the Norwegian Sea. The cruise liner that we would be on for the next week. It was the biggest ship I had ever seen up close. Ten stories high and nearly 1000 feet long. It had an intimidating presence that took one's breath away.
The Zoo and Its Benefits Zoos bring humankind closer to wildlife. Though, sometimes that means taking the animal out of its natural habitat. Some animals have lost most of their habitat and are on the verge of extinction. In this way, the zoo helps the animals rather than using them as a form of human entertainment. Zoos also allow humans to study different kinds of animals more closely.
I visited the World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park, Missouri on a rainy, snow covered day in January. I always love going to World Bird Sanctuary because I’ve always been interested in wildlife and conservation. I guess I can say it’s in my blood. In fact I wouldn’t be here if it without World Bird Sanctuary because that’s where my parents met. Back them my dad was volunteering there in my mom was an intern. So it goes without saying that my family and I love wildlife especially birds of prey which are hawks, owls, falcons and eagles.
It was close to four o’clock in the morning and we were tired. We met up with my dad at the airport and grab us a taxi. As we leave, we drive by a desert that was completely surrounded with sand. Passing through we made it into the city, looking at the flashing lights and buildings that stood tall. It was too early to go out and explore, we needed our rest. As we walk into our hotel, it was like walking into an expensive apartment. With its very own kitchen, washer and dryer, and a patio to top it all
After we got off the airplane, we rented a car and drove to my Uncle Joe?s house. We finally got there and then we all went out to eat dinner. We went to some Italian restraunt and boy was it good. To this day, I have never tasted anything as good as the Veal Picata I had that day. I ate so much that I could hardly move and once I got back to my uncle?s, I just passed out and went to bed. I had a big and exciting day ahead of me. I was going to Universal Studios and I couldn?t wait.
Mom and dad where packing up the vehicle. My brothers look like walking zombies as they got up on the van. I couldn 't stop smiling of joy. As we all got in the vehicle to settle in I yell out " Goodbye California, Hello Mexico!!". My parents where not playing when they said it was going to be a long trip, took us at least four days and 3 nights. I just recall that because I slept most of the time.
