My Tutoring Experience

I have taught school for more than twenty years both in Alaska, USA and in Ontario, Canada. I have also had my own tutoring business. I tutored children and adults in English. I taught students to read, write and speak English. I have helped many foreign students with their English. I have also helped students prepare for job interviews and write essays. I know how hard it is to learn a foreign language so I admire my students for doing this. I love teaching! In 2013, 2014 & 2015 were great years for my ACT & SAT students, with composite ACT score improvements averaging 8 points and SAT gains of 300-700 points, with my top student scoring a 2800! 2015's seniors have gone on to be accepted at SMU, St. Edwards, UTSA, St. Mary's, Texas Lutheran, …show more content…

We worked together to make sure that the students achieved reading comprehension. I took many education courses before I graduated as well. These include 'Elementary teaching,' 'Middle grades teaching,' 'Children's Literature,' and 'American Education.' I have also tutored essay writing for students from middle grades to university level. I taught English as a foreign language for one year at a private English academy in Iksan, South Korea. My students aged from 3-15, all in separate classes of course. As an EFL teacher I learned how to measure student competency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, as well as how to teach each category. I edited student writing for mechanical errors, punctuation, flow, and many other points. It was my job to keep every student up to speed on the school curriculum. I helped prepare some students for their high school entry English exams. For the past year I have worked as a copywriter, perfecting my writing skills. I also wrote through college, first for a two-page newsletter, then later on for school newspaper 'The East Carolinian.' For TEC I was a features reporter, interviewing people and researching my assignment before composing an engaging article. I feel comfortable with writing assignments, proofreading, teaching reading comprehension, and even guiding English language learners. I took many language courses in college, including Spanish classes, 'History of the English Language,' 'Advanced Composition,' and 'Functional Grammar.' English as a Second Language. For one year I taught at a private English school in South Korea where I taught English as a second language. I planned daily lessons, wrote report cards every three months, wrote and conducted telephone interviews once a month, and above all learned how to speak to students who are trying to master a new language.
