Recommended: Art museum experience

My museum adventure was more than I expected it to be. I went to the Dallas Museum of Art. It was the first time in 8 years that I took the time to go to a Museum. I had a fun time in the museum and I got to see many different art types during my visit. My expectations going to the museum were set really low. However, after an hour in the museum I realized that some of my expectations were wrong. The first expectation I had of a museum is that it was a place where you can be loud, this expectation generates because the last time that I went to a museum I was only 7 years old. In addition, the last trip I did to a museum was with my school mates. Another expectation that I had about my visit to the museum was to watch just certain type of art. I used to believe that the museums only host certain type of art, and if you wanted to see for example some Impressionism art works, you needed to go to the Impressionism museum. My first reaction was of surprise when I enter the museum and everything was so quiet. I did not expected the museum to be that quiet, and that is because of the last experiences I have at museums. Another think that surprise me, is that with the knowledge that I have acquired in class and with the description that the image provide at the museum, I was able to understand the pieces of art or at least to relate my thoughts to the author’s thoughts. However, it was still hard for myself to relate my thoughts to some author’s ideas. In the other hand, I did not expect to be looking to many different types of art. I was surprised when I was looking at the many different collection that they have at the museum. I was especially surprised with the Latin American collection because I was born in Mexico and I could relate myself and my culture to that types of

I was able to really see that when I went to the St. Louis Art Museum. The new sector that was added to the museum, in my opinion, was a fantastic addition to the overall museum.     As I enter the Gioconda and Joseph King Gallery at the Norton Museum of Art the first thing that Caught my attention was a painting measuring approximately at 4 ft. by 10 ft. on the side wall in a well- light area. As I further examine the painting the first thing I notice is that it has super realism. It also has color, texture, implied space, stopped time, and that it is a representational piece. The foreign man sitting on the chair next to a bed has a disturbed look on his face and is deep into his own thoughts. It’s as if someone he loved dearly just experienced a tragic and untimely death. He is in early depression. I could feel the pain depicted in his eyes. A book titled The Unquiet Grave lying open on the floor by the unmade bed suggesting something is left unresolved. The scattered photos and papers by the bedside cause redintegration. The picture of Medusa’s head screaming on the headboard is a silent scream filled with anger and pain, yet it cannot be heard. I feel as if I am in the one sitting in the chair and I can feel the anger, and regret.

    When I saw Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring about five years ago at the National Gallery in Washington, D.C., I felt something about the painting that I had never felt before when looking at artwork. I felt as if this girl, this young woman in the painting was real, hiding in the museum behind this canvas. She was in the flesh. She was not just recorded on canvas, she was created on canvas. She was caught in a moment of stillness. Vermeer creates moments in his paintings. When viewing them, we step into a private, intimate setting, a story. Always, everything is quiet and calm. I realize now it is no wonder I had such a strong reaction to Vermeer the first time I saw him: he is a stillness seeker.

    When first arriving at the museum it was an old styled, rustic, building that was not very modern, which I think fits into the theme of the museum. The outside of the building had history, similar to how the inside of museum is filled with a history. There was also an impressive statue of former president Theodore Roosevelt.
