It is generally believed that teaching is a noble profession and teachers are the agents of the future. They have the privilege to shape the students’ future and change the society. As an education student who wants to be a teacher, I believe teacher’s work is multi - faced and there are many moments or experiences that inspire individuals who want to be a teacher. I gradually found that I was good at writing and I could further develop it as my strength. According to The Early Years Learning Framework (2009), educators should have high expectation on students, assist them to become competent and active learner and provide opportunities for them to engage with tasks independently. My teacher would ask me stay in the class to write a diary every day for practicing and I was the only one she asked to do it. She valued my work and provided constructive feedback to help me improve my writing. Moreover, she taught me how to edit my work and submit it to a primary school students’ journal. Several months later, I received a package that includes a journal and a receipt of the payment for the article. I found my article in the journal and I received 50 yuan for payment. I was overjoyed and so did my teacher. Although it was not much money, it was a great encouragement for me as I was only a first grade student but my work is published in an official journal. After the placement examination, I was divided in to the advanced class which was a new class. I couldn 't help crying and was reluctant to leave the old class since I had many good friends. I stayed in the dormitory and unwilling to go to the class. According to Comber (2006), teachers who employ relational work would be responsive to students, they express their respect to students through their body language and verbal messages. When Mr. P knew it, he did not blame me for not attending classes. Instead, he went to my dormitory, told the warden do not push me to the class. He comforted me by saying that: “I totally understand that you miss your friends and the old class. But the goal for setting up the advanced class is not to separate your friends from you. The purpose of it is to provide an opportunity for you superior student to learn at a faster speed and you are able to meet more friends who are at the same level with you. Therefore, you should be happy and try to make friends in the new class. You can always meet your old friends after class, you are not saying goodbye to them for good. Rather than being passive, consider it in a positive way and look forward. I think that I have always wanted to be a teacher. Being the eldest of four children, I have always enjoyed being that helping hand and using my talents and abilities to help others. My teacher interview was with Jessica Mays/Richie. Jessica is fresh out of the program from Chico State University. For a first year teacher she is doing really well, and I’m surprised at how well her kindergarten class is. Just being in her class as a volunteer I have learned so much about what its like to be a teacher. Instead of looking into experience, because she doesn’t have much yet, she told me things that she learned from being a new teacher. I believe that this will help me through the program and becoming a future teacher.

When I moved into my dorm, I didn’t know what to expect in college. It was something my parents expected me to attend. For most of life, I was a sheltered boy who stayed home all the time. I didn’t hang out with friends until my last year of high school. After I come home from school, I would either finish homework or watch Youtube videos. It wasn’t until the first few days of college until I realized the amount of freedom I received. College allowed me to do what I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid. It has already taught me more than the last 18 years of my life. I’ve experienced and learned more about myself and the world around me in just the first semester and it started with my classes.
In a society where kids must go to school up to the collegiate level, teaching is an impactful career choice. Teachers help contour the minds of future leaders of the world. Summer break was over, and it was the time to go back to school to my eleventh grade. School for me wasn’t that different as my summer break. I never felt like not going to school after a long summer break because I used to have a lot of fun in school. School for me was a place where you would socialize, gossip, brag, drive attention, miss conduct, daydream, text students, sing, ask silly questions and flirt with girls. I think now you know how my days at school used to be. However, a day has come that I would not expect it to come at all. I suddenly became a much disciplined student that I would not do anything out of the way. It all happened when I meet my new physics professor Jamal Betar who has wonderful qualities that amaze him from other teachers, and he also gave me the true meaning of education that I have never thought of before in my life.
Teachers serve as the guiding force in a student’s life. They are responsible for molding a student’s personality and shaping his/her mental orientation. Teachers deeply impact our lives and direct the course of our future. One cannot deny the influence of teachers in one’s life. In fact, it would not be an exaggeration to say that, till a certain age, out life revolves around our teachers. Through my own experiences, and as enforced by others' opinions in the profession, I have found that teaching is one of the most rewarding careers. Not only are you placed in the position of instructing and guiding children and young adults through the life long learning process, but you are able to give back to the schools and communities which have supported your early education and experiences that opened you up to a bright future. Along these two weeks we have been prompt to make a recall to our own way of learning and why we became a teacher: Was it because coincidence, due to life circumstances, maybe because family tradition, was it a conscious decision or because someone influenced us? I chose to do my teacher interview in my home town at Richard D. Crosby Elementary School. This K-3rd grade building is very new, it was built in 2010. It has 4 pods, one for each grade level and has a large discovery center in each pod. The school is very colorful, with each pod a different color so the children find it easy to go from area to area. I did my interview with Mrs. Doe, a special education teacher. Her room has a lot of materials for learning and is set up to have several work stations for group activities. Mrs. Doe shares her students with other special education teachers and also has a special education classroom aide. My research question is how does a teacher’s perspective on learning reflect theories and concepts in educational psychology? Mrs. Doe is faced with many challenges in her classroom, overcrowding, multi-cultural differences, learning disabilities, several students with low socioeconomic status and English language learners. There are many challenges for Mrs. Doe to deal with, but she has been teaching for 21 years and has a lot of experience. She started out as a regular classroom teacher, but switched to special education and has done so well that when she asked if she could return to the regular classroom setting, the Superintendent begged her to stay in the special education department because of her success.
What is curriculum and what is my personal experience with curriculum as a student and as an educator? I would define curriculum as the content and material that is to be covered in a particular course as well as the assessment methods and activities used to ensure student learning and progress. As a teacher in NJ, much of the focus of curriculum has shifted to assessment techniques. The idea is to have data that supports student growth in your course now mandated by the state and coined the term student growth objectives or SGO’s. As a student I remember good and bad curriculum in both high school and college. As an educator I have been fortunate enough to write 4 different curriculum guides in various science content areas since 2006 so I have firsthand experience in curriculum writing and revisions. While I understand the basic intricacies of curriculum I hope to gain a much better understanding of how to improve curriculum to create the best possible learning environment and experience for my students with hopes of one day taking a role such as a supervisor or principal.
This semester I had to complete two goals if I was to continue on my journey to become a teacher. The first was that I needed to spend a total of fifteen hours observing a teacher during their instruction period, and the second was that I needed to choose the level or grade on which I planned to focus on during my own career. The staff and administration at Riverhills Elementary International Baccalaureate Magnet School, where I completed all my observational hours, were so accommodating and inspiring that I was able to easily attain both of my goals and feel great while doing so.
