School takes up a large portion of my time as it is, but I easily become distracted. While completing homework on the computer, I will open another tab and end up straying away from the assignment. In addition to that, my study habits could definitely be improved. The article “Forget What You Know About Good Study Habits” by Benedict Carey presents the notion that efficacious studying must include diversity. Based upon years of scientific experiments, psychologists have been able to conclude that studying various material in various places and at spaced out intervals are better study habits than studying one subject in one sitting for a long period of consecutive time. First, it is important to look at the amount of time each habit takes on average. Looking in a long-term viewpoint, studying periodically takes much more time than cramming. Although it may seem as if the opposite is true, cramming is fairly speedy. Before a test, a student may spend two or three hours studying for a history exam. A student who decides to study periodically may study for thirty minutes each night starting two weeks before the exam takes place. That adds up to seven hours, more than double the time it takes to cram for the test! One may argue that by studying a little bit each night, you could study ten or even five minutes a day, but that’s not particularly effective. In a mere ten minutes, it is nearly impossible to cover the needed information. By cramming, one is able to effectively fit two weeks of information in a shorter amount of time. If you participate in several extracurricular activities and/or have a job, it may be very difficult for you to make room for studying and homework each night. By cramming, you are limiting this time to one day rather than eve...
Successful students learn to manage their time; this can be difficult and requires a student to carefully evaluate and prioritize the challenging factors. First, it is imperative to prioritize your day for an easier daily routine. By knowing what to expect daily nothing is missed or skipped and you meet goals and expectations. What you are attempting to evade is postponing your degree due to overwhelming responsibilities. Once you develop a system with perhaps a daily planner or calendar you ensure your kids and spouse are not neglected from time. Although, your job has a set time of hours, you still have to make time to study and or even attend night school if necessary. According to Barry University (2007), study skills are essential first starting with classroom strategies and then time management second. They state that the first session sets the tone for the class and usually outlines ...
Completing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) has been one of my goals after I graduated from my Associate Degree in Nursing, and I said one of my goals because my ultimate goal is to become an Advance Practice Registered Nurse. It is the first time I am taking classes online and all my efforts will be in turn this journey into a positive experience to achieve my goals. One of the biggest challenge is to overcome the lack of time between my family and my work, but it is essential for my career to achieve the Bachelor Degree in Nursing, as well as personal development. Although I have had experience as a student, as a nurse, and as a leader, I would like to have more challenging job opportunities in my future. From my college experience,
During high school, I did not have to study as hard as I do now that I am in college. Usually, I would be able to study the day before the test and score a hundred percent. Although, occasionally, I would be able to skip a few classes and get the notes from a classmate or of course, resort to guessing. However, now that I am in college, the lectures require much more attentiveness and are more complex: composing more information, meaning that one has to proportion time more responsibly and take an advantage of good study habits. My learning skills have made a complete transformation since I have been in college. I learned new things and I actually enjoy learning new things. Nevertheless, these changes required a lot of self control and practice. Going through these experiences have changed my entire persona about learning such as study habits, being more attentive during classes, and going through greater extents to succeed in certain classes.

I have struggled with this for a long time because I procrastinate, forget to write down when it is due or just don’t do it at all. This is something I have to change because it is affecting my grade. To achieve this goal I have to put my priorities first. I have to organize what I am going to do first by putting in a grid from most urgent to least urgent. Also not putting the homework that I don’t want to do last because then it becomes a chore for me and I end up not doing anything. Putting away all distractions like phones and tablets will also help out. My second academic goal is to do better on my test. This is my short-term goal. I can do this by practicing the skills I have learned, make practice test and use the notes that I take during class to help me when I study. Also annotating more and reading the question closely will help me out during test. This is a short-term goal because I can do this with any test. My last goal is to improve my grammar. I have always been bad at spelling and punctuation. I don’t why it is so difficult for me to memorize these things. I plant to study the way words are used, to expand my vocabulary and to use better punctuation in the
To begin with, I changed my time management in order to balance between study and entertainment. During high school, I had a poor time management. I attended school for seven hours and tutorial classes after school every day. After that, I had to do tons of homework such as book report, essay and assignment. Although it was late after finishing all my work, I surfed the Internet instead of going to sleep. I always thought that I still have much time left, so I procrastinated all the time. I slept only five hours a day, so I fell asleep in class. As I was not concentrated in class, I missed many important points from the teacher. I had to use more time to study after school so as to catch up. After having the poor experience, I understand the importance of having a good time management, so I tried to plan my work in the college. During college, I have much more free time. I have classes four to five hours a day and the rest is my free time, hence, it is important to have a good time management. I have to make sure that I do not use up my time in surfing the Internet. My goal of attending
I have recently learned that I have no ability to have self-discipline. For example, when I have to study for a test I think of all the other things that I could be doing with my time instead of studying which is
In high school, I was involved in colorguard which took over my whole life. I had practice until late into the night during the week and competitions took up my weekend. This didn’t leave me much time to study. Coming to college I discovered I had to study like I never had before. In between classes is when I get the most studying done and I have found that I can study better in the SUB than in the library or my dorm room. One of the main challenges I have faced is the
A habit can be many things, some good, some not so good. Everyone has habits that they would like to change and maybe improve upon. I believe the majority of habits I have are good ones but some are not. These bad habits are the ones I will talk about.
