Recommended: How have I improved as a writer
Good afternoon Mrs. Shaw,
Writers always need to find ways to improve in their writing. Here I have is a list of weakness I can improve on this year to make myself a better writer. One of my weakness as a writer is when I get writer's block it can be hard for me to start writing for a while. I also need to work on proofreading a writing piece. In addition, I also need to work on my punctuation and grammar. I have always struggled with this as an author.
All writers have strengths as well. This helps use in are writing. One of my strengths as a writer is I can come up with very creative ideas for fiction writing, this is not difficult for me because I have a good imagination. In addition I think that I am very organized in my writing as well.
When writing a five paragraph essay, there are five steps one must fallow in order to attain perfection, these steps include understanding the question, brainstorming, writing a rough copy, revising, and creating a final draft. The first and most important step is understanding the topic. The topic of the essay is what the essay will be about and if this is misunderstood, the whole essay will be off course. The second step, brainstorming, will help organize thoughts and ideas so they flow amiably. There are many different ways to brainstorm, some of the most helpful are making a web of ideas, making a list of ideas, or creating a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the conviction. All these ideas will be related to the topic at hand. For example, if the essays topic is about how the earth is affected by global warming, then the brainstorming ideas might include the ozone lair being reduced or how global climate has raised. The third step when writing a five paragraph essay is creating the rough draft. The first draft must have all the features the final will, but does not have to be...
The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning, revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties, and helped to inspire confidence in my skills.
Where there are weaknesses there are also strengths and mine lie within the body paragraphs. I arrange my ideas well by using quotes about my subject and explaining them.
These strengths and weaknesses were mainly discovered through the papers that we have written. I have many strengths when I’m writing papers and at the same time, I have many weaknesses. In my papers, I have noticed that one of my biggest strengths is how articulate I am. The papers that have been written by myself show that I structured sentences to present ideas in different ways. It is not straightforward and boring when ideas are presented. I like to keep the reader hooked on my paper. In order to keep up with this strength, I like to read articles. The articles I read are typically the ones that present new ideas or start arguments. This is one of my strengths that I am very proud
Another one of my strengths as a writer and a student is my determination to complete every assignment to the best of my ability. I have never been the type of student that does not get her work done, whether it be an essay for English or a workbook page for Geometry. I work diligently in all my classes and aim to learn as much as I can from every assignment. Since English is not my best subject, I work twice as hard to improve every day and bring out the best writer in me. My determination is what drove me to enhance my weaknesses and polish my strengths.
My English Literature major has helped me to achieve an outstanding level of appreciation, enjoyment, and knowledge of both American and British Literature. As a high school AP English student, I struggled through great works like Hamlet and To the Lighthouse. My teacher’s daily lectures (there was no such thing as class discussion) taught me merely to interpret the works as critics had in the past. I did not enjoy the reading or writing process. As a freshman at Loras, I was enrolled in the Critical Writing: Poetry class. For the first time since grade school, my writing ability was praised and the sharing of my ideas was encouraged by an enthusiastic and nurturing professor. Despite the difficulty of poetry, I enjoyed reading it. Because of my wonderful experience in Critical Writing, my love for reading and writing was renewed and my confidence in my abilities as a writer had been restored. I decided to take a second chance on English by declaring Literature and Writing as my majors.
It has took me 19 years to realize every writer has strengths and weakness. Entering your freshman year English 1101 class, I had the basic fundamentals of writing. I was very strong in following the writing process: 1.Brainstorming, 2.Rough draft, 3.First draft, 4.Final draft. However despite knowing the writing process I still had trouble following through with the writing process.
Over the course of this fall semester, my development as a writer have transformed positively. I feel more confident organizing my ideas because my literacy development has improved. Specific improvements that I can recall reflecting back to the three major assignments in this course are the thesis statement construction, forming my ideas together and write clear sentences. Another personal accomplishment would be the understanding and implementation of the rhetorical terms. Throughout my years in college, mainly I had struggle writing in English because English is my second language. However, I used all the tools and knowledge available resulting in a noticeable progress as a writer.
In this paper, I am to write about my strengths and weaknesses in writing. This is not an easy task for me because I have never considered myself a writer. Reading other peoples thoughts are activities that are more my speed. I simply have trouble putting my thoughts into writing. Since, I do not feel that I have many strengths, let's move on to my weaknesses.
This semester I learned many new things in my English 1301 class. I took this class last year but I had to drop it because I didn’t have a professor explaining the work to me. And I really didn’t understand what I was doing. At first, I was scared to take this class. During my high school years I wasn’t that good of a writer. I thought this composition class was going to be hard since I sometimes thought it was hard in high school. My writing experience was good and sometimes bad. This semester in the composition class I had many writing strengths and weaknesses. These strengths and weaknesses is what helped me learn the errors I was making while writing essays this semester.
Writing about my personal strengths is a challenging task that requires me to focus on the strong points that make up my character. However, to attack my weaknesses, is to challenge myself to take control over the areas that need some redefining of certain skills to make greatest success in life. My life is not defined by weaknesses, but more so the makeup of my personal strengths.
Some of the skills I had shocked me as I didn’t think I had those capabilities in me. One of our first assignments that our class did was write a response to a piece of work we read, and use that as inspiration in our own poems. I wrote a poem about a necklace that held meaning to me, and the end result surprised me. At first I thought I would fail the assignment because I didn’t think I had the skills to write an acceptable poem, but came to find out I had surpassed my expectations. When writing about my shaping influence for my third essay, my research paper, I first had to set the scene for the readers and give them a reason to read.
This class has helped me realize my strengths and weaknesses in literature. This has allowed me to grow and realize that I am a work in progress. I am confident that by the end of this class my big issues in writing will be improved. Each assignment in this class is helping grow and is making me into the writer I know I can be.
In writing, my personal strength is using figurative language. Using figurative language such as metaphors and similes are specifically where I strive the most. They come to me as easily as breathing air. Another strength of mine is I have a satisfying choice of words. I’ve ways been told this by my family and peers when simply talking and it’s more noticeable in my writing.
Writers face several hurdles when it comes to writing projects, for both formal and informal purposes. Not only that, but each writer may face different hurdles. What one person may consider a challenge, another will find simple. The challenges I find most difficult are finding a way to condense broad topics into something easily discussed. Even once I am able to condense a subject down, I find it challenging to separate it into different topic areas.
