Recommended: Role and responsibilities of teachers in society

My Philosophy of Education "I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside. Give them a sense of pride...These lyrics from "The Greatest Love of All" sung by Whitney Houston more than 15 years ago have become almost trite. However, in simplified terms those lyrics sum up my philosophical attitude toward teaching and clarify for me why I want to teach, specifically elementary education. The future of any generation belongs to the children of that generation. The present is all we have to assist the decision makers of tomorrow how to shoulder that responsibility with earnestness, wonderment, and a sense of pride. I think of social reconstructionism when I think of all the ways in which society could become more equitable and the ways in which early childhood education could positively effect that change. But I would not say that I am a social reconstructionist. The overwhelming task of shifting societies prejudices cannot be achieved in one classroom during one school year. However a seed of toleration and understanding can be planted and as a teacher I would emphasize critical thought and it's use in providing solutions for what appears unjust.     Walt Disney influenced technology. Without Walt we would not be as advanced into technology as we are. His first animation creation was The Alice Comedies with the company, Laugh-O-Grams. The Alice Comedies did not end up very well and ended up causing the company to go bankrupt. Most people who did not know him thought he was a failure and would give up, nut that was the complete opposite. After his first downfall he partnered with his brother, Roy.     My philosophy on education is that all students should receive the most uplifting educational experience. I want to change a student’s spirit towards all aspects of their school and curriculum. An educator should practice ideal qualities such as acceptance, empathy, and broadmindedness. A teacher is not the only model that students will be exposed to in their life. This is why it is crucial to involve parents and other members of the community to share in your vision. Students learn a variety of social skills as they embark on their education at any school district. They learn to listen, take turns, hear different points of view, negotiate, communicate, and take responsibility for their own behavior. I believe that when students have those skills and attitudes; learning will be meaningful in their lives. The vision of an educator will not hold any meaning unless it is implemented, maintained and promoted to the school and community. The goal of the school is to provide the students with a wide variety of educational experiences that will encourage self-respect, the acceptance of others, customary behavior, life-long learning, and active participation in society.
