My Personal Essay In my life, there have been many gifts, awards, and presents that I have received from other people, but I would say that none of them compare to the significance of the objects that I receive from my family. I have a high regard of the importance my family has on me, which is why I treasure the items that I receive from them; this esteem that I have is just built into my character.
About three years ago, I purchased a 1921 Peace Silver Dollar in a mint state sixty-four condition with the intent to use it as an investment for my future. My interest in coin collecting was first sparked when I began thinking of ways to make some money that did not require much labor. The first idea that came to my mind was the stock market.

We really couldn’t do anything since we were out of town, but when I arrived at my house, I found out that a couple of my things were missing, including my prized coin. My first reaction was just shock and surprise; I guess that I was in a state of denial that I could not believe that my coin was really gone. In a way I found that coin to be beautiful not because of its rareness, but because of the era in which it was minted. Distress filled me because I had never had anything personal taken from me. This whole experience was new to me and I did not know how to deal with it. After a while, I eventually accepted the loss of my possession. However, the golden moment in all of this was when my father came to me and told me that he wanted me to have his coin collection set. I could see the pain he felt seeing me in despair, which is why he wanted me to have his coin set. I believe that this will be a moment that I will always remember because of how it has heightened my view on family. The value of the coins he gave to me did not add up to the value of the coin I had lost, but knowing that I had received these coins from him really added value to them, even if it was not
Do you think its fair that players are credited for what they do, when cheating the game? Mark McGwire excelled at the game of baseball and got credit for all of his accomplishments, yet he cheated the game and used steroids. Babe Ruth, considered one of the greatest baseball players to play the game of baseball, who never cheated and set a great example for all who play baseball. Baseball has drastically changed over the years, especially in the cheating scandals of steroids; Babe Ruth set a great example by excelling in the sport and doing it clean, contrasting with Mark McGwire. Their existence shows how society accepted honesty and doing it the clean way in Babe’s era and how society accepts the scandals and dishonesty of Mark’s era.
Mary Wollstonecraft, a women’s rights advocate in the year 1792 summed it up perfectly when she said, “I do not wish them [women] to have power over men; but over themselves.” She is describing the fight within every woman in the Feminist Movement that began in the 1700’s and extended throughout the late 20th century. This powerful motion was a drive to address the debated issues of reproductive rights, domestic violence, maternity leave, equal pay, women’s suffrage, sexual harassment, and sexual violence. As time has passed, feminists have pushed extremely hard to gain equal rights and respect from their male counterparts. Unfortunately in today’s world, society still puts an emphasis on a women’s exterior beauty. They emphasize it in magazines, television commercials, and even the infamous beauty pageant. The industry of beauty pageants is growing rapidly, jeopardizing the continuous work of many women’s rights advocates, throwing away the continuing efforts for equal rights (Miss America, 2011).
How would you feel if your devoted dog was discriminated against based only on what he looked like? Canine breed discrimination is a real problem in today’s society in the United States. There is always an enormous amount of hype when one hears about a dog attack. The first thing people want to know is what kind of dog was involved in the attack. That breed of dog then gets labeled as “dangerous”, quietly forcing people to change their opinion on a certain breed based on an action of only a couple of dogs.
My parents taught me, my sister Julie and brothers Bruce, Mike and Jeff, that it was better to give than to receive. At the young age of five, however; that concept was a bit difficult to grasp. I remember one summer watching my mom load some of our toys, games and clothes into the backseat of our station wagon. We were told that the items were going to be donated to our church rummage sale and the money from this sale would be given to the local food pantry. As a five year old, I felt like my mother was stealing from us and wondered to whom I could report this crime to so she would stop. I thought to myself, if this were my toy, she had no right to take it away from me even if I hadn’t used it in months. Much to my dismay, this became an annual tradition in our household. It wasn’t until I was much older that I could appreciate the significance of this act and how not everyone in America was as blessed as my family.
James Baldwin’s works were influenced by the times in which he lived, as an African American writer he strove for equality and used his pen to work for civil rights through elements of his childhood among other aspects.
Most scientists agree that humans are contributing to global warming effects around the world. The existence of the polar ice caps and the rate at which they are melting are threatened by global warming. This threat is leading scientists to use geothermal energy in our everyday lives in hopes of preserving the polar ice caps. In order for people to thinking about helping to preserve them, they need to understand polar ice caps. Because polar ice caps are melting, there are many issues occurring in our world such as natural disasters. People are impacting the melting of the ice caps but, the ice caps are also impacting people as well. One alternative to using fossil fuels is geothermal energy. Geothermal energy can change the way we use resources from the earth forever, and potentially slow the rate of global warming.

I looked curiously over the counter, wondering what it might be. The man came back with a small box a short time later. He handed it to me and then resumed his work. My slender hands trembled as I opened the tiny box. Inside was a beautiful silver locket. As I opened the tiny heart up, I saw something I didn't expect to see. The beautiful faces of my family, including my brother.
My family has never taken any moment for granted. We have cherished and reminisced on many events that has happened even before my time. Recently my Mema has passed down to me a very cherished heirloom. I had just turned eighteen and she felt like it was time for me to carry on the most
We were all being sold of to different places. I was sold for $150 to a farm. I worked on the farm for a couple of days working and working. I had a surprisingly nice owner. he didn’t treat me horribly, however I was very sad to know I was never going to see my mother again. Then I came up with a plan. A plan to
My grandmother gave me a car for graduation, it was a beautiful Mustang. At my high school we had to do a capstone project which required 10,000 words and two year s of research- mine was about Mustangs.. I dreamt about that car since I was a little girl and I received the car a week before college started, my grandfather died a few days later; I named the car Roy after him. I suppose it sounds silly to love a car, but all of my dealings with death were so unhappy, the car was a welcome reprieve. It was the happiest day of my life, the car felt like an escape from sadness and freedom to begin my new life as a college student. I struggled with the loss of my grandfather, but being at college and having my car to remember him by helped me distract myself, when I was sad "we" (my car and I) would take a drive

There are 232 million identities stolen each year. Cybercrime is becoming more of a problem today than it ever has. In the course of one day, 1.5 million people will be hacked while on the computer. The United States and Russia have the highest rates for this crime. Terrorist groups often begin their attack by using cyber crimes. Nowadays people are getting more creative in the ways they commit cybercrimes. There are a few known reasons why people commit these crimes. Police and FBI agents are already busy with violent criminals, and trying to solve difficult cases; they just don’t have the time or resources to catch cyber criminals. Today’s generation does not understand how serious cyber crime can be. “Unless and until our society recognizes cyber bullying for what it is, the suffering of thousands of silent victims will continue.” (Cyber Quotes, 2014). All people need to be taught how to act against this crime and prevent it from happening to them.
Fictional literature can be categorized into many different genres: drama, romance, science fiction, tragedy, comedy, horror, and gothic. Gothic fiction borrows from horror by sampling mystery, dire setting, and chilling architecture. Romance is sampled in gothic fiction by the use of characters, firm emotions, and misguided love. Greenblatt writes, " Gothic became a label for the macabre, mysterious, supernatural, and terrifying, especially the pleasurably terrifying, in literature generally; the link that Romantic-period writers had forged between the Gothic and antiquated spaces was eventually loosened" (584). Horace Walpole wrote The Castle of Otranto in 1764. Walpole single-handedly sparked a new style of literature, gothic fiction. Walpole also coined the word seredipidy. The Castle of Otranto is referred as the the start of gothic fiction as a genre. What is gothic fiction exactly? How does gothic fiction use characters to enrich the work? What function does setting and architecture play in gothic fiction? How does gothic fiction create immense emotions within the reader? Finally, if Horace Walpole's The Castle of Otranto is the true beginning of gothic fiction, did the story influence all works after The Castle of Otranto was published?
I don’t know where I’d be without my family. We’ve been through thick, and thin. I’m very glad that I have them for moral support, and can depend on them for advice. They’ve taught me almost everything I know about life, whether it’d be household chores, manners, morals, cooking, etc. I’m pleased to have a very caring family that would do anything for me. I feel safe and secure with them. They provide me with the basic necessities such as food, water, and a roof over my head. I would consider all of the things they provide me with as luxuries, because not everyone has a comfortable place to reside in, or food to eat. If I didn’t have these basic necessities, then it would be another thing I would have to stress about in life. I like to joke around with them a lot, and it brings a smile to my face when I see their reaction. Having a loving, and supportive family is what makes me
