Early childhood I was involved in playing two sports which were basketball and football until the time came that I had to choose one. My initial decision was basketball until I was influenced to switch sports by my closest friends just when I thought I was committed in playing basketball. My parents were not very keen on me playing sports, but had tons of support from my friends and siblings. The high school I attended which was Alief Taylor high school had a very strong recruiting system which was because of the coaches we had and talented athletes. Teachers and coaches played a huge role on my future while I was in high school and it was up to me determine how my future was going to be. I was not a varsity football player until my senior year and were many time when I felt like I was going to quit, but my friends and coaches recognized that I had talent and continued to …show more content…
The feeling of my bone snapping in my knee during practice knowing that the injury was going to make me miss some of the games at the start of the season. My official visit to Wake Forest University and seeing a dead body in the health building and also hearing the coaches tell me, “We are offering you a full athletic scholarship to attend Wake Forest.” Finally, my last high school football game concluding in a loss in the playoffs to Lamar high school. All of these memories affected me in ways in which Coackley states, “changing or ending sport participation.” Getting injured was a quick way to realize that anything can happen and how suffering from an injury could end sport participation. Getting a scholarship immediately made me think about the influence and encouragement of my friends and coaches about participating in football. After my last high school game made me realize that I can’t play football forever and that it is going to come to an end one
Sports bring friends, family and our country together more so than political debates or even church on Sunday. Whether it be football, basketball, baseball or everything in between everyone has their favorite team that they cheer for regardless if they are the shits or number one. Americans will have gatherings of their friends every week of the season to watch games and “support” their teams from hundreds of miles away. Sports have an enormous impact on our society in every way shape and form, whether it is kids pretending to be their favorite super star while playing in the yard or it is co-workers participating in fantasy sports or making March Madness brackets, but which is the most entertaining, is it the professionals that are paid millions of dollars to play or college kids struggling to get by while trying to earn an education?
As a Freshman I played JV and Varsity football, because my whole dad side of the family played and continue to plays college football at schools such as NC State, Clemson, Fayetteville State, A&T, and more I was raised up to do the same. The beginning of my high school days was when I started to settle down a lot because of constant practice and more school work. Into my sophomore year I began getting more involved with school and taking part of activities such as serious hunting, lifting weights, and getting more involved in church. My junior year I gave up on football because I wanted a change and plus if I did not I was going to move to a different school that was known for football, my reasoning for not wanting that was because I did not feel like football was my life and I did not want to make that jump all for a
Sadly, my family was going through financial struggles, forcing me out of the school zone I was destined to attend. When I discussed the situation wih the high school coaches they told me they would pick me up from my new house and take me to school every day; with the condition that I’d play football for them all throughout high school. Even though this was illegal I continued to go ahead and accept the offer. My first year of high school was so exciting that it went by in the blink of an eye. Sophomore year came and the clock ticked closer and closer to when everything would change. I started in varsity as a corner back but soon would have big shoes to fill as the team’s quarterback. Not only did this require skill and hard work but the ability and qualities of a leader as well. Ultimately, playing this position helped me acquire traits that would soon be necessary for success. That year was tough for us because the majority of the team consisted of inexperienced players, however the coaches knew I would be the one to lead the
Neither my parents nor I had that desire for myself; therefore not one sport was more central than the other. Academic success stood as the most valuable compared to athletic success. That environment placed less pressure for me to train with greater intensity and focus when it came to competitive sports. Sports were extra-curricular activities as opposed to a full-time job and the pathway to the subsequent level. I absolutely benefitted from playing multiple sports throughout my youth. I have participated in soccer, basketball, football, track & field, wrestling, and even taekwondo. Competing in all these sports developed me into a better athlete and enhanced my fundamental movement skills that are necessary for all sports. In addition, it gave me multiple perspectives that I might not have had otherwise. This improved my ability to be a teammate and instilled in me a more competitive nature. Although different sports brought different demands, the growth of confidence remained the same. I never suffered from burnout during my youth, nor did I detest my experience. Ultimately, participating in multiple sports gave me time to decide where my passion lied and what I preferred to play. As a result, my participation in high school sports was limited to only football and
At age four, I started my first sport, soccer. From the very first practice, I was simply hooked to the new responsibility to show up at practice every Tuesday and a game every Saturday for my new Blue Valley Recreation team. I had so much fun with my soon-to-be kindergarten classmates! As I grew, I joined more and more sports like softball and dance classes, and I would do anything to get outside and play some football or tag with my family. From the time I was four until now, my love for sports and exercise has only multiplied and multiplied. Apart from the love of playing, I feel I may have gained something more from playing sports all these years. Though I was not entirely certain as to what or why I benefited from playing sports so long, I knew I had some attributes that many other non-athletes did not.
Soccer and basketball are really competitive sports. They are compared and contrasted in many ways. Soccer and basketball are huge talked about sports. They are talked in constrasting terms mainly, but they have similarities which are really tiny and not really noticeable. To tell the similarities and differences are how people play them, when they are played during the year, and the origin of each.
During my four years of high school I believe that my involvement in sports has helped me become a better person in life. I participated in varsity basketball and Track & Field all four years and my experience in both sports has taught me life lessons that I can carry with me for the rest of my life.
“Hey Alex, I’m looking for some kids to join this football team,” was one of the most life-changing sentences of my life. My friend had asked me to play a sport that I had no idea how to play. I was terrified, though I still ran home to tell my dad to register me to a Highlands Ranch football team. At the time I couldn't interpret what the astonished look on his face meant. I was nine and I had no idea how football would shape my future transforming me into a competitive and persistent person.
I played a lot of sports growing up, but my main focus was soccer. My mother had put me in soccer when I was around three because I had too much energy, and I don't think she thought soccer was going to be such a big part of my life. I was never really a shy person growing up and I think soccer was a big part of that because I was always around a lot of other people. Also through soccer I had also learned what it meant to be a part of a team and learned how to communicate and work with others. I played soccer in a club league and I also played in middle school and high school. During my club season I had met a lot of girls who were worried about college recruitment. I had never really thought about playing college soccer before until this point.
When I was younger my parents made sure that my brother and I were very involved in sports. We played everything: football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball/baseball, and even achieving our green belts in kung fu. My brother’s passion ended up being basketball and growing up I thought it was mine as well, until I was 11 and a volleyball coach contacted my mom saying he saw potential in me. I still played basketball, but my focus was on volleyball. The summer going into 8th grade was filled with hitting trainers and footwork, serving, and running. I had one goal: Make the 8th grade Volleyball team. Weirdly enough I was confident in my ability to make the team and not the slightest bit nervous. That all changed when my peers and I stepped
Basketball is America’s past time. But all around the world soccer is the most popular sport. Fans are crazy about their teams and travel around the world just to see them play. Soccer is the most played and watched game in the world. I could never forget the first time my dad and I went to watch Manchester United vs. Real Madrid in the major league soccer game. The excitement began from my house to the stadium and during the time of game. Now, I was six years old, and my dad had me up on his shoulders so I could have a good sight of the game. The cheering of the crowd, the singing and chants were almost more than I could stand. For each time players of both side had the chance to shoot into to the goal or the score was open, everyone in the whole stadium would stand up and yell, “GOAL!” a memory that I could never forget. This reason is why it is considered to be a favorite sport to any people and individuals prefer it to any other sport. Soccer is a more enjoyable sport than basketball because of the rules, number of players in a team, and how to score among each other.
My 8th grade year in middle school I attended FairPlay middle. I was the starting point guard, co captain averaged 10 points a game 3 assist and 2 steals. I was very confident about playing high school basketball for Alexander High school. that summer, summer of 2010 my dad lost his job and I was cut from a team I didn 't even try out for. my dad and i had
... average season. The next year my senior year went along the lines with my junior year. I got injured the first game with a separated shoulder. I continued to play the season despite the pain because you only have one chance at high school football and I wasn’t going to miss one play. We ended the season with another 5-5 record. Now this phase of my football career had ended and it was time to move on.
If you were to ask my friends what I love to do, my guess is that the majority of them would come up with this reply, "He loves to play sports". Sports are a big part of my life, and if I had to choose my favorite sport to play it would have to be basketball. I couldn't imagine going a week without being able to touch a basketball, and I thought I would never have to. But on one summer afternoon, that all changed when I broke my leg. It left me on crutches for two months, and not being able to play basketball all that summer. At first I thought it wouldn't be so bad, getting all the attention and sympathy from everyone. However, after one game I soon realized that I would do just about anything to get rid of those horrible crutches and get back on the court.
The greatest achievement in my life would have to be my success in the sport of football. I started playing the game at the age of eight. It stuck with me throughout my life until now. During a football game there are numerous amounts of dynamic situations to be involved with. There are so many crucial actions that take place in the matter of seconds. In a certain instance in my life , the game had a strong impact on my life. It took place my senior year against our rivals, the best team in the district. That Monday we began preparing for the coming Friday. It was a typical week until I woke up Wednesday morning. I was routinely late for school running around the house. On my way out the door the phone brought me to an abrupt stop. Turning around, I started to sprint to the phone. A few steps into it, I crushed my little toe on the leg of my couch. Face down on the carpet, I proceeded to scream in pain. Answering the phone quickly got check off my things to do list. As soon as I could regain my sanity I hopped over to the couch and forgot about school. My toe suddenly turned black and swollen. It was the worst coincidence that could’ve happened to me. I went to the hospital later that day, where I heard that my foot was broken and I couldn’t play.
