Research Experience I have proactively engaged in research activity throughout my undergraduate program. I had my first research experience in Dr. B Anand’s lab, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, during my second year. The aim of the project was to study the non-fluorescent beta-barrel structured proteins and engineer its amino acid sequence to make them into fluorescent ones. Our approach was mainly based upon the studies of Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) from a jellyfish Aequorea victoria. Tools like Python programming language, Gromacs, Ribosome, PROSS, and Pymol were used to study the structural components of non-fluorescent proteins. I gained invaluable knowledge about protein engineering and developed deeper fascination for life sciences. Enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) was originally isolated from a bioluminescent jellyfish called Aequorea victoria. As suggested by the name, this protein fluoresces green when exposed to light in the ultraviolet range. The ultimate goal of the following experiment was to successfully create a pET41a(+)/EGFP recombinant plasmid that was transformed into live E. coli cells. The success of this transformation could be evaluated based on whether EGFP’s fluorescence properties were displayed by the colony in question. The protein’s fluorescence properties “triggered the widespread and growing use of GFP as a reporter for gene expression and protein localization in a broad variety of organisms” (Ormo, et. al., 1996). Although EGFP and GFP differ for a few amino acids that make EGFP’s fluorescence mildly stronger, the basic principle that such a protein allows for the evaluation of transformation success remains intact.

Females are most likely to be an outsider because there is more pressure on them in society to look good and be attractive. Girls are judged on the way they look and how they act. Between a boy and a girl, a girl is most likely to be an outsider because girls are expected to look a certain way and act a certain way in society.
The purpose of this critique is to analyze the design of a research study conducted by; Donna Kazemi, Maureen Levine, Jacek Dmochowski, Mary Nies, and Linman Sun called “Effects of Motivational Interviewing Intervention on Blackouts Amoung College Freshman”. My experience with working with a group is that the longer you work together, it feels like the people I work with becomes a family. Sometimes we argue; sometimes we pick each other up when things are tough, but we also work together when things need to be accomplished. Getting a new job is always an adventure; normally, I walk through the door on the first day with fresh eyes and a fresh mind. That is exactly how I entered my first day at CVS Pharmacy (later to be known as CVS Health). Because this was my first retail job, it already seemed better than my experiences with the food and beverage industry. For about four years, I had been in and out of the restaurant business and believed that there had to be something a little more relaxed. Obviously, what I was doing was not my calling, which is why I applied to CVS. It had opportunity for advancement and a relaxed atmosphere. A friends’ wife that works for this particular CVS and helped me get my foot in the door. Walking through the double automatic doors, I could see the cashier, who I would later know as Alyssa, smiling at a customer. My “new” manager approached me with a genuine smile. Just the positive atmosphere and environment set the tone of how it would be working here.
For my Field Experience 1 observed Mrs. Vicki Banks a certified teacher of the visually impaired at the South Carolina School for Blind on September 27 and 28, 2016 during sixth period from 1:00 to 1:50 and then I met Mrs. Banks on November 1, 2016 during sixth period to interview her and ask her a few questions I had from the observations. Mrs. Banks selected a student to perform the Functional Vision Assessment that is diagnosed with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia. The student is a twelfth-grade student at the school.
Another area of 14 interest for me is molecular biology, this being the biosciences departments strong suit at 15 Sheffield Hallam means I can pursue my interest in this topic with techniques that have been 16 developed in research as the techniques found in research are integrated into the course. 17 Research techniques being integrated ensures that the work being carried out is up to date and 18 means the information being delivered on the course keeps up with the ever-changing world of 19 science and I am keen to expand my knowledge and learning with these research techniques. A 20 further topic in the second year that I am interested in is the biomedical investigative 21 techniques as this will explore the problem-solving nature of science, and learning the 22 different investigative techniques will be useful and enjoyable due to the challenge in 23 investigation which is a key part of science. 24
As an undergraduate biomedical scientist at the federal university of my state, one of my greatest desires is to achieve all my academic goals and graduate with excellence in the career that I have chosen to follow. Since the beginning, I always have conducted my studies aiming to reach a high quality pattern as a student, enrolled in all academic experience that university could offer, including extracurricular activities and internship opportunities. Now, as a senior student, all my principal goals remains the same but much more focused on pursuing an academic career and trace new ambitions for my professional life as a scientific researcher. Furthermore, I want to be a professional capable to perform great biomedical researches and contribute in an innovative way to scientific community, expecting that all efforts will have impact on other people’s life care one day.
Research philosophy, refers to the development of knowledge adopted by the researchers in their research (Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill, 2009). In other words, it is the theory that used to direct the researcher for conducting the procedure of research design, research strategy, questionnaire design and sampling (Malhotra, 2009). It is very important to have a clear understanding of the research philosophy so that we could examine the assumptions about the way we view the world, which are contained in the research philosophy we choose, knowing that whether they are appropriate or not (Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill, 2009). According to Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill (2009), three major ways of thinking about research philosophy are examined: ontology, epistemology and axiology. Each of them carries significant differences which will have an impact on the way we consider the research procedures. Ontology, “is concerned with nature of reality”, while epistemology “concerns what constitutes acceptable knowledge in a field of study and axiology “studies judgements about value” (Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill, 2009, p110, p112, p116). This study is intent on creating some “facts” from objective evaluations which are made by the subjects. Therefore, epistemology will be chosen for this study as the way of thinking about the research philosophy.
The myriad mysteries of science can be unraveled by the emerging technologies including Biotechnology. Science has always been my interest and forte thus, the choice of Biotechnology as my academic option was the ideal decision. I had prepared for the highly competitive entrance exam AIET to get admission into the integrated Masters Degree in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics at Dr. D.Y. Patil University and secured 87th all over India rank and was proud to gain admission to this venerated university. The academic curriculum has introduced me to amazing subjects like ‘Microbiology’, ‘Molecular Biology’, ‘Biochemistry’, ‘Genetics’ and ‘Industrial Biotechnology’. Although many seminal biological events have been explained in theory during the past century, the technology to harness their potential for benefiting humankind has only been possible during the past few decades. This is testament to the great improvements in biotechnologies and I am glad to be a part of this grand scientific experience.
Since school days the terms like cell, genes, DNA, protein intrigued me a lot and helped me in realizing the dream of pursuing a career in Biotechnology field that has been making many remarkable achievements. The passion towards biological sciences made me to take B.TECH in Biotechnology in Dr. M.G.R. University.
