When I was about five years old, my parents got a divorce. I lived with my mother from the age of 5 to about the age of 12. Throughout those 6 or 7 years, I shared a home with 5 sisters. Under the support and protection of my mother, we were hardly financially stable. We were required to live for days and even weeks without electricity. With my mother working overtime, we had to prepare our own meals with the little resources that we were able to obtain. As a single mother with 6 children, my mother has tried her best to keep my sisters and I content. Although my she has done everything in her power to make my sisters and I happy, I don't want my children or anyone else for that matter to go through the same conditions that I went through. I want to have a successful life or career so I can thoroughly provide for my family and give them the contentment that they deserve. It is my mother’s actions that have made me come to the realization that anything is genuinely possible if you have the ambition and desire to do it. It is because of my mother that I, Jalyssa Smith, want to major in biology and become a pediatrician. A pediatrician is evidently a practitioner who specializes in Pediatrics. A career in nursing is extremely important in today's society. Without nurses to assist doctors in the care of patients, the quality of patient care may not be the same. Nurses do not just serve a great role in our community, but they also are just as needed as a police officer patrolling the streets or a teacher in the classroom. To better understand why an individual would decide to become a pediatrician, one must first ascertain how this career began and what it has become. Studies on the treatment of children began thousands of years ago, but pediatrics as an occupation and field of study did not begin until approximately two hundred years ago in Germany and France. Larger populations in the two countries led to more specialized needs, one of which was care for children. “One of the earliest, if not the first, centers for pediatrics was the Society for Infant Therapeutics” (Leucke). Dr. Abraham Jacobi was one of the first and most prominent pioneers of American pediatrics when he came from Germany to New York. He established the pediatrics chair at New York Medical College in 1861, organized multiple pediatric societies, publicized pediatric journals, and developed children’s departments in several New York hospitals. “The first separate pediatrics hospital was established in Philadelphia in 1855. The American Association of Pediatrics was established in 1930 and the American Board of Pediat...
Pediatric Dentistry is a fantastic job for me considering how much I adore children, the median annual wage is excellent, and dental hygiene is greatly preeminent to me. I cannot envision a better career path for myself. I have always been a person who can interact easily with children. In addition, I also enjoy the idea of being able to help children feel great about their teeth and smile. Being a dentist is much more to me than just cleaning a child's teeth. It is also about boosting the child's self-confidence by encouraging them to brush their teeth and take care of their smile

My career choice is to become a pediatrician. The question is: what makes this job so interesting or fantastic enough to be chosen? This job requires many sacrifices, skills, and strengths to endeavor the obstacles on the way to the goal. This particular job is also a very honorable and noble job in the sense of helping children with their illnesses and ailments. Personally, I love children and I’m always fascinated by their actions and interesting techniques of expressing themselves. Since I am intrigued by the children’s personality I love spending time with them (and that’s why their child-like ways rub off on me). Thus, I believe that my own childish personality and my love of children will motivate me in the near future to help them out with their medical needs. Also, being a pediatrician and helping out children has its own rewards. Not only will I be doing something I enjoy, but I will be getting paid a generous price as well. A pediatrician’s salary is not the highest one compared to surgeons or cardiologists, but it’s enough to have a life that is something more than simply satisfying. Another good aspect of this job is that they only focus on the health of children rather than all of the age groups. An adult and a child are so different they are nearly two different species. If a child is brought to a doctor who specializes in all age groups, the child would not be getting the same kind of attention that he or she would be getting, compared to that from a doctor who specializes only in children. Doctors that specialize in all age groups are used to make quick, rough, and fundamental actions need for the healing of the patient. One does not simply treat a child the same way an adult would be treated. The child would becom...
While in school, Mom didn’t have it to easy. Not only did she raise a daughter and take care of a husband, she had to deal with numerous setbacks. These included such things as my father suffering a heart attack and going on to have a triple by-pass, she herself went through an emergency surgery, which sat her a semester behind, and her father also suffered a heart attack. Mom not only dealt with these setbacks but she had the everyday task of things like cooking dinner, cleaning the house and raising a family. I don’t know how she managed it all, but somehow she did.
