I am Jason Derek Brown, and the FBI has a $200,000 reward out for me. My face appears on the Top Ten Most Wanted in America list. I am wanted for murder and armed robbery that I committed back in November of 2004. Most people will come to many conclusions hearing this information, but they don’t tell you the whole story, the real story. This is the story of how this list has destroyed my life when all I was trying to do was fix it. I never had a problem with money until I had to file bankruptcy in late 2003 because the international business I had invested in never fell through and I had lost every single penny. After then, nobody would even think twice about hiring me, disregarding my master’s degree, because filing bankruptcy looks horrible on your record. I had a few very nice cars that I had to sell off so I could atleast get out of debt. I had a wife and 2 daughters I was struggling to support when we were kicked out of our house for being late on our bills. We had nothing. The feeling of being on top changed to the After a few minutes I had searched the entire truck and found just a couple small bags with money and coins, maybe a couple hundred. I was beginning to exit the truck, let down, when I heard the theater doors close and footsteps on the concrete coming towards me. My heart was lunging outside of my chest as my hand conducted a death grip on my gun. I saw the truck driver coming around the corner of the truck with heavy, full bags that were packed with money. That’s what I came here for. A flashback of my family, dressed in ragged, old clothes huddled together for warmth on the side of the street suddenly appeared in my head. I reacted from instinct and drew my handgun, then pulled the trigger. The truck driver fell on the ground, and so did the bags of money. I was still for a second, unable to move. As I snapped out of it, I ran to the body, grabbed the bags of money, and
In America, there are many considerable companies created by immigrants during the height of immigration. During the early 1900s, the American Dream was in full swing and patriotism was found amongst most Americans. During this time, Americans had a sense of vivaciousness when talking about America and the economy. With the roaring 20s and significant economic growth in the 1910s, many non-natives flocked to America in search of a better life. However, as time went on and America’s economy started to adjust, the American Dream and patriotism of indigenous Americans also evolved. Bogged down with the aftermath of the Great Depression in the 1930s, second and third generation Americans fell out of love with America. Immigrants kept hope though,
America’s Most Wanted has also changed the public’s perception of both, victims and criminals. I believe that the show transformed America to be more sensitive to victims and what they have been through especially when the family has no closure. It gives the victim the...
The United States as a country has always been an entity unique amongst the world’s myriad of nations: a conglomeration of cultures, ethnic groups and religious backgrounds from around the planet, all fused together to yield something entirely new. Since its very inception, those who dwell within its borders have attempted to ascertain the makeup of the American identity, in order to pin down how exactly one can come to be considered as an American themselves. This is inherently quite a subjective issue, but the conversation primarily boils down to three core factors that make the American people who they are: a dedication to preserving the natural rights of every human being, a belief in the importance of the individual in deciding their own
There is no clear definition of “becoming American”. Everyone has a different view of what American truly means. The term differs depending on what era in history it is. During the American Revolution, the United States was not a nation, therefore no one was truly American. While the Cherokee Nation fought for sovereignty, the definition of “becoming American” expanded. Both the American Revolution and the Red Clay simulations conveyed how race contributed to “becoming American”.
Illegal immigration is a complex issue that impacts the United States in many different ways, in particular the economy of the country is one that is impacted the most (Illegal immigration a $113 billion a year drain on U.S. taxpayers). Sanctuary cities have provided many safeguards to keep undocumented immigrants from being deported, thus creating many incentives for people outside the United States that are thinking of coming to the United States illegally. Illegal immigration is caused in part by sanctuary cities.
Undocumented citizens should receive the same rights as American citizens. While in America, everyone should be protected from discrimination, unfair treatment, and injustice. This is because no one should be denied basic human rights. Also, immigrants will always attempt to come to the U.S., whether it's allowed or not. There is no reason why while in America, they should have less rights than regular citizens. It is only discriminatory and unnecessary. Lastly, immigrants have always provided for this country more than they have hurt it. If undocumented citizens help contribute to America, why should they not be allowed American rights?
The United States, like any large nation, experiences its fair share of domestic terrorism. Domestic terrorism comes in two forms, within the United States, secular terrorism and religious terrorism. The broader category of terrorism, of which secular and religious terrorism fall under, is defined as a violent act committed against defenseless civilians in order to incite change. The distinctive difference between secular and religious terrorism is the motivation to commit the act. Secular terrorist are motivated by ideology, that is separate from religion, and Religious terrorist are motivated by an interpretation of their religion. Because of these terrorist acts the United States is forced to take action, in order to prevent terrorist acts,
In Becoming American, the Hang Sou , Herr, and Cha clans underwent tremendous turmoil in leaving Thailand and coming to America. They knew that there was no future for their families in Thailand and escaped the hardship and turmoil to take on the risk of reestablishing their family. They also had to overcome numerous barriers to begin the process of moving to America which lead to many difficult emotions and feelings that the family had to go through.
Immigrants in Urban America Before the turn of the 19th Century, foreigners immigrated into the United States of America in three major waves (Chudacoff, Smith, & Baldwin, 2015, p.101). The reasons for coming to America are immeasurable; nonetheless, it can be assumed that immigrants have become discontent with their homeland. Additionally, with their reasons came learned habits, behaviors, and cultures from their birth places, (Handlin, 1959, p.20). The immigrants heard of the American dream through information spread by word of mouth in casual conversations, seeing the idealized ship advertisement posters of gaiety on decks of immigrant ships, and by reading letters from relatives and friends already living in America. How did immigrants secure their passage to America and what were the steps in their journey?
I am a first-generation Haitian-American, so, my parents were born in Haiti while I was born in the United States. When I was a kid, we always had family members from Haiti come stay with us when they deiced to transition the United States. Whenever possible, I would help my young cousins with their English homework and any other assignment they had. Looking back now, teaching them English came naturally. It was always wonderful seeing their English improve little by little. My Creole may not have been the best, but with every conversation I had with them, my language skills improved as well. That is what I want, I want to help people improve their language skills while improving my own. I want to aid in their language development and one day have a meaningful conversation with them in both languages. I can accomplish this by being a member of the Peace Corps and helping with the English program.
My vision of America is much like what America is now. America is strong, independent, and full of opportunities for its people. That being said, we as the people of America must live up to the expectations our founding fathers bestowed on our country and maintain what has been created. Abraham Lincoln once said “America will never be destroyed from the outside, so if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” My vision of America is a nation that maintains our founding fathers ideals, continues to protect the people and freedom, but learns to fear not of what we don’t understand.
Money really takes up our whole lives. From loans and cars to savings and spending at the mall, we need money in so many ways to move forward. Falling into the traps can be scary at first but there are ways out. Money management is an important skill that affects every aspect of our lives and help is available for those who lack this knowledge. Getting out of debt and cutting spending are all ways towards financial ease but saving and investing help in the long haul. Remember one key fact and that is the amount of money made should never outweigh the amount of money spent.
I heard a scream, so I quickly ran to the front, and came to an abrupt halt before I could be seen by the masked man. “Give me all the money in the cash register, or I will blow your brains out.” he demanded. At this point in time, I was frozen in terror. I knew that I should have called the police, but instead I ran into my grandmother’s room. Trembling and shaking, I sat on t...
I was broke and looking for a job. I couldn't sell a house. I lost my investments, and was living off borrowed money. I knew about paying yourself first. I read all the books but I did not practice what I learned. I cashed in my 410k and lived off that until those funds ran out. If I would have established a habit of saving money, I could have survived the real estate downturn.
Money has always been an issue in my life. I think it has affected me so much because I cannot remember a time when I ever had a satisfactory amount. I remember when I was younger my mother was on welfare and public housing. She had to sacrifice and struggle to make the ends meet each month. I cannot remember a time when my mom ever had a job. She had mental health issues that made it difficult for her to maintain employment. I knew when I was ten years old that I did not want to be like my mother when I got older. I watched her worry about how she would pay all the bills every month. Although we did not have much financially, my mom made me feel loved in other ways. I do not know how she did it, but she made sure I was well taken care of. I would get shoes that my friends with both parents could not get. She made sure that I did not have to worry about our lack of financial stability.
