One person in my life who has been a mentor to me is my friend Jason. There are multiple reasons why I say him as my mentor, and not something generic like my parents. One of the biggest reasons he’s my mentor is because he isn't afraid of what other people think of him at all. He still cares about what the people around him think about it, but it doesn't bother him if people have a negative opinion of him. I think that this is a very important life lesson that all people eventually learn, and he was the one who helped me understand that. Another reason why he is my mentor is because he considers everyone his friend no matter what. He taught me the ability to not judge people before you talk to them at all. Everyone is completely natural to
him when they meet. It doesn't matter where they're from, what they look like, or how they dress, he thinks the same of all the people that he doesn't know. Even though he didn't actually try to teach me these things, i still picked them up from him, but the one thing that he did try to teach me was that if something went wrong, it wasn't the end of the world. I used to have the habit of that once that one thing went wrong, i would just shut down and give up and stop trying. He taught me that if something went wrong, that you could either fix it, or that if it was out of your control, that there was no point in worrying about it because the was nothing yoy could have done.
This book shows what a role of a mentor has on someone’s life. It is a simple story about an unlikely pair of friends who learn the meaning of trust to overcome their failures and turn those failures into
Much like Mike, I have had some amazing academic mentors that were not afraid to get down in the trenches with me and ask what I was trying to say. I had Ms. Lewis my freshmen year of high school, she would sit down with me and rip apart my paper and rework it as necessary. During my senior year of high school, I had the privilege of taking a U.W. English class that was a seminar format where the instructor would frequently conference with us, and he gave me the tools to continue my education. However, something we all need to remember, especially at PLU, is to not be afraid to be a mentor to someone else. In life, we are all teachers. We tell one another our stories, and by doing that we are teaching them what it is like to look at the world through our lens.
The role of the mentor is to “protect the main character,” (Literary Devices, 4) and “through the wise advice and training of [the] mentor … the main character achieves success” (Literary Devices, 4). The mentor is as important to the story as the main character and is often a critical part of the hero accomplishing his quest. Some examples of the mentor are Yoda from Star Wars, Atticus from to Kill a Mockingbird, and Hagrid from the Harry Potter series. In many situations, the mentor is such an effective teacher because they themselves have at one point been in the hero's position. The are able to teach the hero how to defeat a dragon because they once conquered one themselves; they can help the hero overthrow the king because they once dethroned a ruler.
The Mentor is a character created to guide the Hero via protection and wisdom. This character leads to the success of the Hero (AN). In Harry Potter Albus Dumbledore acts as a mentor to the hero Harry Potter by giving advice about the Mirror of Erised, and not to dwell on it’s visions. (HP pg.213), giving Harry
Tuesday at 10:00a.m., I interviewed with Dr. Ann Griffith about becoming my research mentor and working in her lab. As a potential mentor, Dr. Griffith seems to be prefect in compatibility. She has a great personality and seems to really understand my concerns and schedule. I may bond better with her because she is a woman and she understands a lot of the struggles women endure every day, especially working mothers. She has several publications, one for instance: “Metabolic Damage and Premature Thymus Aging Causes by Stromal Catalase Deficiency”. This paper really gives good insight into understanding the lab’s interest and where I may possible fit into the balance. In the course of our meeting, I was better able to assess Dr. Griffith as my potential mentor based on these aspects and other informative topics from our discussion that would personally affect me the most.
Preparing for college starts well before senior year in high school. The primary purpose of a high school is to get students to go to college. The purpose of going to college is to gain work-related skills and knowledge on the career path a student takes which will eventually be their future. Also, students are investing a lot of money to attend colleges, so they count on high school to prepare them for what they are going to expect in college.
Good mentors can heavily and positively influence a person's life. A mentor is someone who trains or guides someone else through life. Mentors may guide the person they mentor in many ways, whether it is through talking them through a struggle or encouraging them to pursue what they love. This is a broad term, and in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence acts as a mentor. Throughout Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence performs his role of a mentor appropriate to both Romeo and Juliet when he guides them through their love and his optimism and advice when troubling situations occur.
In The Professor’s House, understanding character, a person presented in a dramatic or narrative work, will better help understand the relationship between Tom and the Professor. Understanding the characters Tom and the Professor will help show how their relationship is a little different than most other relationships in the book. With that, it will help show that Tom and the Professor’s relationship can be viewed as somewhat queer. To start off, Tom was not fully heterosexual. Based off of Tom’s diary, the following passage shows what Mrs. St. Peter gained from the diary about Tom, “Of course Mrs. St. Peter had insisted that he was not altogether straightforward; but that was merely because he was not altogether consistent.”
I have a great mentor who has helped me in my life. Because of her, I could be a Ph.D. nursing student at the University of Washington. Through her, I learned the true essence of nursing and gained a wonderful dream of becoming a professional nurse scientist in the healthcare field.
Coming into my senior year I was very anxious and ready to get it over with. Everyone kept telling me that it was going to be the easiest year of high school, but I completely disagree. I would not say it was my hardest, but most definitely not the easiest, I did enjoy it though. It was very fun during the whole year, but once it came down to the last three or two months I began to give up. I was so ready for it to be over, and the more anxious I was the slower it seemed to get here. Unfortunately, I missed the main things that really mattered this year, like my cap and gown fitting, my last year book picture; all because I did not want to come to school this year. I really did not see no point in coming since I only needed two more credits to graduate, but in the 3rd quarter my
Many people have been asking me how I feel about my last semester of senior year in high school. Some students say that they are ready to get out of high school others not so much. I see both sides of how you would feel about it and really don't know which side Im on. At times I am ready for the year to be over others I'm not. The times that I am ready for the year to be over could be caused by a variety of things. For example you might be feeling like your ready to grow up and start your adult life, you could be having a bad day and that makes everything less enjoyable, you could have had a bad experience at the school and want to get out of there as soon as possible so you don't experience anything bad again. The effects of wanting to be
The year is 2027, first off I want you not to worry about death anymore
My father was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa on February 18, 1973. As a kid he was very into paintball and competed in regional and national tournaments. He was kind of nerdy and excelled in all his classes. In high school my dad met my mom through friends and felt an instant connection. After a high school, my dad followed his father's influences and became an electrician to continue the family business.
Since I am just under the age of 30, I asked one of my siblings’ questions pertaining to vocational goals. When shown John Holland's six-part diagram, my sister said that her vocational preference is and has always been social. My sister has always been interested in coaching, teaching, mentoring, and helping others. As a young adult, she wanted to become and Respiratory Therapist; she immediately started attending college after high school to pursue her goals of becoming a Respiratory Therapist. Unfortunately, my sister was never able to achieve her goal of becoming a respiratory therapist.
One thing that I wish that I have been better prepared for was the networking aspect of my co-op experience. Lucky for me, I had a mentor that introduced me to other members of the staff within other departments. This way, I got exposure to the company as a whole, which allowed me to have a better understanding.
