My Living Case Study

The population for my Living Case Study will come from a healthcare organization that will be referred to as organization X. Singh (2007) describes a population as “a group of individuals, objects, or items from among which samples are taken for measurement” (p. 88). The population within Organization X has over six hundred employees located in the corporate office in downtown Toledo, Ohio. Within the corporate office for my Living Case Study the focus will come from the Account Receivable Department where I am the Manager. The Accounts Receivable Department has two Cash Posting teams lead by two supervisors and a manager.

Currently there are twenty-one employees between the two Cash Posting teams. The demographic makeup is all female ranging in age between thirty and sixty something. Their educational background is a mix, one employee with a bachelor’s degree, one with a two year degree, and the rest have completed high school with some college courses. There are two Supervisors one for each team, one has some college education with supervisor experience and the other has a four year degree with supervisor experience. The rest of the Accounts Receivable (AR) team’s job

title is Cash Posting Specialist. The Cash Postings have a varied range of time with the organization. The two eldest subjects have been with Organization X twenty plus years, both supervisors twelve years, and the rest of the sub population from the AR Department have been with the organization between two months to thirteen years. The sample for the Living Case Study will be one of the Cash Posting Teams.

Sample
“A sample can be defined as a finite part of a statistical population whose properties are used to make estimates about the population as a whole” (Singh, 2007, p.

88). The AR Department is divided between two teams, one team posts cash for the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Department and the other team posts cash for the Home Health and Hospice (4H) Department. The sample will be the SNF Cash Posters, the research design will be mixed, and this will allow for the statistical data that will be used and I will be performing the interviews of the subjects. Instead of using the both teams, my study will be the SNF Cash Posters. They are having to work a lot of overtime, staffing issues, low morale, and too many manual processes that have to be done daily before cash posting actually takes

place.
Sampling Technique
The sample technique used will be the nonprobability method, selection of the subjects will be based on convenience. The sample number involved is small with ten subjects that include the supervisor and there will be no cost to the researcher. “In non-probability sampling, participants are chosen on the basis of researchers’ assumptions about the characteristics of the target population, some of which may not be known to the researchers” (El-Masri, 2017, p.1).
My Living Case Study is about what is happening on the SNF CP team and what will happen after making process changes and improving technology. I do understand as the Manager of the teams my focus is researching what is taking place and not trying to prove something in favor of personal agendas. “My sample size was not determined arbitrarily or on the basis of a hunch” (El-Masri, 2017, p.1). Whatever the results the data will be given to senior leadership of the AR and IT Department to help with future structure of the SNF team and AR Department.
