Author Jim Rohn once said that, “All good men and women must take responsibility to create legacies that will take the next generation to a level we could only imagine.” He is saying that every good person wants to improve the world in such a way that we cannot even comprehend that it is possible. He says that all people rich, poor, strong, or weak want to leave their mark on the world. A legacy that changes the entire world is the hardest to obtain, but that does not make it more important. Those who leave a legacy on the world are people who had an idea that no one else did, or had a dream to help everyone that they possibly could. Leaving a legacy does not mean affecting everybody. I have gone to school here all nine years going from kindergarten to eighth grade. I have accomplished many things, but there are also countless things I have done wrong or wish I could change. I hope people at Emmons will remember me for the good, not the bad. I have done things not only academically at Emmons, but also as an athlete, In seventh and eighth grade the boys basketball team that I played for at Emmons took second in our conference. Considering the size of my school, only about 20 boys in my grade, this was a big accomplishment for my teammates and me. This is one of the things I hope people will remember me for. As an athlete I also participate in track. Last year, and hopefully this year, I qualified for the IESA state meet in the high jump. This was my goal throughout the entire season and at the second to last meet I jumped the qualifying height of 5 feet and 1 inch. This was, in my opinion, the greatest athletic accomplishment I made at Emmons. I say that because not only did I actually have to do it, but I had to work for it every day. The track team practiced every day in 7th grade and I high jumped at every practice. It was a great accomplishment because I had to persevere and work for almost a month to achieve my goal. Another accomplishment I made at Emmons was winning the CML competition for my grade level. The CML was a math competition given within the accelerated class. Every month there was a six question test that we would take. At the end of the year the person with the most correct answers was the winner. In sixth grade I was the one with the most correct answers. These two and many other things are what I hope people at Emmons will remember me for. I want to remembered for things I am proud of not things I am ashamed of. I want the my legacy here to be of someone who I would look up to, not of someone I would look down
When I hear the word “legacy,” I often feel intimidated because I instinctively compare myself with those who have accomplished something significant. In fact, I get the impression that I am disadvantaged, or strictly speaking, useless, compared to those who are leaders. I feel that my fate prevents me from meeting new opportunities, which ultimately impedes me from making great accomplishments. However, after reading “Home of the Free” by Wendell Berry, I am forced to riffle through my life span and smile at the great accomplishments that I, as a “disadvantaged” kid, have taken pride in. Berry’s thesis can be summarized by a quote from the famous existentialist Friedrich Nietzsche, who wrote, “If you wish to strive for peace of soul and pleasure, then believe; if you wish to be a devotee of truth, then inquire.” Nietzsche establishes the notion that, in life, we should not avoid “the necessary work of human life” and only seek pleasure and peace. This notion, which is what comprises Berry’s concept of “satisfaction,” makes me ponder everything in life that can make existence prove worthwhile.
The author of this website, which would be the National Council on Public History, is specifically looking at what exactly is public history and what exactly is meant by public history. Public History can be defined as history in the field. It is the use of history in real life situations. It is history applied and goes outside the realm of academic history. The author does mention that while there used to be clear definitions between public and academic history with public history being more multi-disciplinary, history as an academic subject has also increasingly become multi-disciplinary. Public historians have many different names such as archivists, museum professionals, and local historians. The author’s main argument surrounding these definitions of public history is that there are different forms of history with public history being the kind that the average person sees. Public historians can deeply impact their local communities and many collaborate with local community members on projects to ensure that the history they’re detailing is that of the community who is affected by it. The author does note that while many public history projects can be educational, the purpose might be more for an intellectual history like for a business’s archives. Public history projects could also be used to promote the local town or for the town’s own economic development.
Penning a Legacy is a significant title because the article speaks about William Penn and the lasting legacy of him and the colony that he had started. He is a legacy because he stood up for what he believed in even when he was imprisoned. He started a government from scratch in his colony, which was named after his father. In his colony all faiths were looked at as equal.
There he stands atop the stairs of the Lincoln Memorial, in the nations’ capital, at a podium, speaking to the world. The crowds faces full of hope. Ears opened wide and clear, for the Dr. is speaking today. He is speaking from the heart and telling the nation that he has a “DREAM.” Dr. King had a dream and as most people think that it is geared towards blacks and whites, it’s not. Dr. King wanted equality between everybody. He wanted freedom from racism and prejudice throughout the nation. He was very good in getting the emotional perspective of persuasion across to his audience. King was a very inspirational man; his words were so true and full of meaning. He spoke to everyone and got everybody involved. This is why people followed him and why I think this is the most persuasive piece we have read. He not only implies his wants but he carries along with him the wants and needs of every man or woman ever treated poorly because of the color of their skin or their beliefs. There is a certain unexplainable meaning and feeling when a man like King steps up in front of the world and says, “I have a Dream.”
When the United States entered the First World War, the government took over all radio operations and shut down both professional and amateur radio broadcasters. The use of radio was reserved exclusively for the war effort. In the air, radio was used for the first time between multiple planes and the ground to keep formations and lead the pilots to their targets. This was the beginning of air traffic control and walkie-talkies. In addition, soldiers who had been wounded were entertained in the hospital by news and music played over the radio. Although radio was not allowed back into public until 1919, it continued to be used by troops coming home to entertain each other and was even used for dances. All of radio’s uses from the war soon became prevalent in everyday life and radio has been used in these ways ever since. Our lives are filled with constant sound most of it coming from the radio being on all the time; whether in the car or at home, music, news, weather, and traffic are provided through radio. There is a station for everyone. Moreover, when we travel by plane, airports would be chaotic and have no way to tell who is taking off and landing if not for radio use to control the traffic and make everything run smoothly. Many jobs also have much use of radio needed to communicate with other workers in careers such as law enforcement and trucking.
The legacy of Andrew Jackson was of a self-made man, of perseverance that would one day lead to the presidency. His life acquainted him well with death, where at a young age he lost his family – his mother and two brothers – to war and his father before he was even born. Creating and achieving goals are some important things that people want to do in their lives and learn to accomplish or achieve them. The goals can be small, big, long, short, simple, complicated, hard, objective, career, life, educational, professional and it can be for anything such as health, job, work, you, the people that are around you, friends, family, the world, history, culture and advocacy. In order to accomplish or achieve these goals, you need to have a lot of time, effort, proficiency, patience and perseverance. Goals are the ones to be proud of because we are accomplishing them every day you just do not realize it.
A global citizen is that who is willing to use its voice and knowledge to make a change. No one would ever be able to make a change in just one day, it is something that takes time and devotion. I’m really interested in diversity and I’m seeking to what is my role is as a world citizen. The fact that I’m searching for an international education is the proof of my desire to establish myself as a global citizen and my interest in the world issues.
Influence is one of the greatest effects people have on us that defines who we are as we grow and learn. Influence is aroused by people media and advertisements. The largest influence in my life has been my very own family. While not all of the effects of their influence were derived from good they shaped me into who I am today. Everything was great and I spend a great eight years. I was a good student in all of my natural science classes, especially in Biology and Math classes. I was in contact with many of my school friends and teachers in every of our school activities. I still remember playing soccer for our school team when I was thirteen-years-old. Actually, I still play soccer and I play awesome, but I don’t want to be a player. In addition, my elementary school life was great and successful eight years for me.
