Identify the sport you play
My favorite sport that I love to play is basketball. I am interested in participating in playing the sport of basketball because that is one of the most common sports played growing up in the New York City. I’ve always been interested in it because it was another way me and my dad to bond together. When I was 6 years old, I fell in love with game of basketball while playing at the court in front of my building. Since then, I’ve been blessed to play up to the colligate level and travel around the U.S. while playing AAU basketball.

My interest in playing basketball is for exercise and to relieve stress. Instead of going to the gym and running on the treadmill to get a cardio workout, I would go the gym to play basketball. It will help me burn more calories by running more on the basketball court versus the treadmill. Playing basketball helps me relieve stress and helps take my mind off certain things that’s going on in my life. Me and President Barack Obama share similarities of growing up playing basketball and uses basketball as a stress reliever. Spokesman Robert Gibbs says “playing ball helps Obama get exercise and relieve stress.” Gibbs says that “when Obama plays, he can think about something different even if only for a short time. Basketball has been a part of Obama’s life since he was a kid growing up in Hawaii.” (Baller-in-Chief, …show more content…
Just like in my everyday life I try to set goals for myself to reach at a certain point. In basketball, I set goals for myself as well. For example, in 2015, I made goals for myself to dunk the basketball by July 31st, 2015. The reason that motivated me for this goal was that a lot of my friends were already dunking the basketball; meanwhile I was one of the few who could not. I created the goal for myself in March, 2015. 5 days out of the week, I would go to the basketball court and the gym to work on my jumping ability. I did different basketball drills and leg workouts to help reach my goal. I watched basketball videos and motivational speeches as a motivating factor which eventually helped me to reach my goal by July 31st,
The game of basketball along with football and soccer is one of the most prominent sports in the United States and the World. It’s played at every level from 5 & under to the professional athletes in the NBA and overseas. Every team is made up of virtually the same elements; the guards, big men and coaches. Basketball is not a sport where you can focus solely on yourself, but the focus should be on the team. The sport is very public and easy to see, however there are many things that occur behind closed doors when no one is looking.
Starting my freshman year at County High School, I played basketball and loved every minute of it. I wouldn’t be conceited enough to say I was good, but God did bless me with the talent to play. My life revolved around the sport of basketball; some would say I slept, ate, and breathed every part of it. I spent all my time training and practicing to make myself a more dedicated athlete. This dedication not only helped me as a player, but also molded me into the person I am today. It somehow helped to prepare me for what defeat I would face with back surgery in the future.
I play basketball, not only because it gives me a source of exercise, but it also allows me to be engaged in a competitive atmosphere again. To play basketball, you start knowing little and learn from your coach a lot more. It is important to learn how the game works from the different techniques of the game to the rules, goals, and communication that come with the game of basketball.
Raised in a small town of 750 people, where high school sports meant everything, sport has played a tremendous role in my life. Basketballs and footballs replaced stuffed animals in cribs, and dribbling a basketball came before learning to ride a bike. I started playing basketball in the second grade, and I hated it. We always played in the division above us and we hardly ever won a game, but after watching Coach Summitt and the Tennessee Lady Volunteers win back to back National Championships, the same years my high school girls basketball team won back to back State Championships, I fell in love with the game. In fact, sport is what led me to the University of Tennessee; I admired Pat Summitt, not only because of the number of wins and National
Michael Jordan once said “I will not let anything get in the way of me and my competitive enthusiasm to win”. This have help people of all ages get through their burdens and do something they love instead of doing some negative. For many people basketball has become more than a game, it’s the way of life. The American game of basketball has traveled now, it’s played by more than 250 million people worldwide.
As I was growing up, I’ve always love the game of basketball. When I was at the young age of five, I got my first basketball for my birthday. I can still remember what kind of basketball I had received that day. It was a multi-colored Spalding kid’s ball. Right when I unpacked the basketball, I quickly ran outside and began to try and dribble it. As I got older, I quickly developed more skills. I personally believe that I have natural athleticism. I believe that because it
Ever since I have been a child I have always loved basketball.I spent hours each day playing basketball. I dreamt of playing at the TD Garden as a member of the Boston Celtics against their bitter Eastern Conference foe Cleveland Cavaliers led by LeBron James. All throughout middle school I would ignore everyone when they told me that I couldn't make it to the NBA.
In conclusion, it can be stated that basketball is a sport that has a positive influence on individuals from a tender age right through their adulthood. The sport has improved the overall behavior and performance of young adults, teaches them teamwork and persistence. Basketball also brings unity in communities and races alike, and has a constructive influence on the economy as a whole.
I have throughout my whole life been playing sports. I still play basketball competitively and now it’s at the university level. Basketball though was not my first love when it came to playing sports. It has though become my true focus since junior high school. Coming from Canada everybody plays hockey. Its almost as if as soon as you learn to walk you learn how to skate. Whether it is at the recreation centre or at the shinny rink around the corner everyone plays. Eventually I abandoned hockey to play basketball which I have done so for the last twelve years of my life and hopefully a few more years into the future.
I dearly loved the sports of my birthplace (soccer, cricket & rugby), but one of the major influences that helped me with my transition was falling in love with basketball.
Ever since I was a little boy, about eight years old or so, I had an extreme passion for the sport of basketball. On weekends, I would wake up in the morning, eat a bowl of frosted flakes or cheerios, put on basketball shorts and then go in my driveway to shoot around. I would be out there for hours just shooting around or playing with some random kids that I would occasionally see walking around my neighborhood. This was satisfaction to me, but even better was playing on multiple public teams and not just playing in my driveway every day. In elementary school, I played in a recreational league, just like almost every other kid who tries out basketball when they were younger. This was fun and all but it was nothing too serious. There were never any practices, it was just one or two unorganized games per week. I never took
If you were to ask my friends what I love to do, my guess is that the majority of them would come up with this reply, "He loves to play sports". Sports are a big part of my life, and if I had to choose my favorite sport to play it would have to be basketball. I couldn't imagine going a week without being able to touch a basketball, and I thought I would never have to. But on one summer afternoon, that all changed when I broke my leg. It left me on crutches for two months, and not being able to play basketball all that summer. At first I thought it wouldn't be so bad, getting all the attention and sympathy from everyone. However, after one game I soon realized that I would do just about anything to get rid of those horrible crutches and get back on the court.
Basketball is one of the interesting sports I have always wanted to engage myself; even as a little child. It was a dream come true when I started playing basketball in my high school. Moreover, I was very good in it, and I became the team leader. Of course, I enjoyed every bite of the time I spent playing basketball.
Sports, a very popular past time today, have been around since ancient times. Greek Olympic Games featured events from chariot races, javelin throws, to wrestling. In addition, a game similar to soccer was played in China by the second century BC. In England, a violent rugby type game was even played to settle feuds between villages. With the development of the industrial revolution and the creation of the first public schools, sports decreased in violence and were played more recreationally and constructively. Basketball was invented to help the youth in New England spend their energy in the winter months. Since the early 1900’s sports have been a key experience in the United States (“History of Sports”). I have played sports for many years, and the experience has helped me grow significantly as an individual.
In setting a goal, you set up a grand goal and then you break it down into smaller goals. This helps you to further monitor your progress on a smaller scale and helps you stay motivated and focused because each time you achieve one of the smaller goals, it keeps you inspired to achieve the grand goal. Set goals that are definite with a well-known target to achieve, always giving yourself a specific time-stamped to achieve your goals. However, ensure that your goals and time lines set are realistic otherwise you will end frustrated chasing castles in the
