I am interested in the honors community since I am an honors student myself, I believe that I will be able to provide the most help for those students and be able to share my personal experience and be able to help guide them towards success. In addition, I would like to see the study succeed and I believe that I could help achieve this by encouraging study groups within the hall and set up meeting times for those that are in the same classes to encourage study groups. Ambassadors give tours to prospective high school freshman and give them a feel for what high school is all about. We would share experience and give advice to prospective students regarding classes, teachers, activities, and sports. I loved interacting with both students and parents and showing them how amazing my high school was, and I want to be able to do the same for Questrom. I am a very outgoing, independent, and a social individual, which are all important qualities Dean’s Hosts must possess when speaking to prospective students and their parents, as well as alumni and distinguished speakers. I am exceptionally grateful for this opportunity to possibly be a member of this very prestigious organization. Every day I work tremendously hard to be noticed by both other scholars and my teachers. Now that an opportunity has come, I am truly excited to demonstrate and live by the values of The National Junior Honors Society. It is a tremendous honor to be considered for membership in the most prestigious Honor Society available at Wapato High School. It is even more grand to be able to work towards enrollment in the Society side by side with such an astoundingly gifted group of young men and women. Next year, as I embark my first year at university, I hope to fully integrate myself into the community by getting involved in the Students' Union, joining the cheer team, volunteering where I can and making many new friends along the way. At university, I hope to maintain a high grade point average, granted that my education is extremely important to me and that I am extremely ambitious about achieving my goals.Therefore, I will commit lots of my time to my studies in hopes of being a successful student. Nevertheless, I am still looking forward to being a part of the community by devoting my extra time to helping those around me. In classes, I intend on being an active learner, a respectful student, and a helpful classmate; someone who is always willing to lend a hand to others. Through engaging in my community, I hope to bring joy to others around me by spending my time supporting local events, volunteering for fundraisers, and helping plan and organize campus activities.
However, I have had the privilege to be a part of my school’s Model United Nations team, where I/in which I collaborate with and discuss our world’s most pressing issues with other students. The opportunity to attend Governor’s Honors Program is a chance to further my skills both in working individually and collaborating with students in a subject area that I am likely to pursue a career in. The four pillars of the prestigious National Honor Society demonstrate the traits I hope to continually develop: as a scholar, a leader, a volunteer and a person of strong moral fiber. I believe myself to be mature and motivated; I have an unyielding commitment to scholarship and intend to make a difference in the lives of everyone around me. The prospect of becoming a member has prompted me to take a look upon what I wish to accomplish as a part of this organization. By becoming an active participant, my goal is to enrich my school experience by means of volunteering in the community, serving as a role model for my peers, and fostering pride for our school.
Throughout my educational experience, I’ve found that I thrive best in the most advanced courses where less time is spent on learning information and more time is spent on discussion. For example, in my IB HL Math course students are encouraged to discover new theorems and tools through teamwork and class discussion rather than just being given these new theorems and tools. This has allowed me to understand calculus on a deeper level and has made it one of my favorite courses. My other classes operate similarly in that students lead the discussion while the teacher observes and occasionally moves the discussion along. Students are encouraged to connect curricula across subjects, such as when we discuss physics in math, human rights in biology, or psychology in literature. During my early education, meaning elementary school and middle school, I was a very average student. I gave an average amount of effort to my grades, and I received above average results. This did not bother me, until the end of my 8th-grade year. At this point in the year, I was filling out what classes I desired to take the following year, my freshman year. I realized that from this point forward, I had to take my education much more serious, in order to get accepted to whichever college I desired. therefore, when planning my classes, I decided to challenge myself more than I ever have in the past, and take multiple honors courses. I assumed because of my grades, that I had what it took to be an honors-level student, but I was very wrong. One teacher, Mrs. Johnson, made me realize the kind of effort, time and energy needed to be devoted to my education.
Liberty University is my dream school because of its solid Biblical foundation, opportunities for students, and excellent educational program. I have found all three of these qualities in my interaction with the university. I truly sense that Liberty wants what is best for its students both inside and outside of the classroom. In short, Liberty is my dream school because of its heart. The Honors Program at Liberty furthers my respect for Liberty by challenging its students and providing them with opportunities to succeed. Being accepted into the Liberty Honors Program would mean many things to me including preparing me for my future and giving me the chance to become a Champion for Christ. It would challenge and provide me with a close-knit Christian community, new growth opportunities, and a balance amidst the wide variety of new experiences. Being accepted into the Honors Program would further enable me to pursue and fulfill God’s purpose for my life.
I have participated in the school’s marching band for four years has a member of the color guard. The last two years I have even earned a leadership position. From being in marching band, I have learned the ability to look for a bigger picture in things. For instance, something that may not seem clear now may take a true shape in time. I have also gained working experience through my two lifeguarding jobs from the last three years. I have learned how “size up” a situation and see how to properly deal with a problem. I have also learned, through both commitments, how to time manage myself and both achieve in activity/work and in school. I believe that through these experiences, I can bring a different perspective to the Honors Program’s community and help better it in any way possible.
I am excited to join the Honors College for a number of reasons. One of the most significant reasons is that I am dedicated to bettering myself and my education over these next few years. I have no doubt that ensuring a solid education at WVU’s Honors College will assist in paving the road for a successful future. By challenging myself academically and dedicating myself to my studies, I will gain the essential skills and training necessary to help others as I move forward with my career. Also, being surrounded by others who have the same level of motivation and who maintain high standards of conduct as myself is unquestionably something that I will look forward to when joining the Honors College.
"Tomorrow is the first day of what I will become." I wrote this in my diary the night before my first day of college. I was anxious as I imagined the stereotypical college room: intellectual students, in-depth discussions about neat stuff, and of course, a casual professor sporting the tweed jacket with leather elbows. I was also ill as I foresaw myself drowning in a murky pool of reading assignments and finals, hearing a deep, depressing voice ask "What can you do with your life?" Since then, I've settled comfortably into the college "scene" and have treated myself to the myth that I'll hear my calling someday, and that my future will introduce itself to me with a hardy handshake. I can't completely rid my conscience from reality, however. My university education and college experience has become a sort of fitful, and sleepless night, in which I have wonderful dreams and ideas, but when I awaken to apply these aspirations, reality sounds as a six thirty alarm and my dreams are forgotten.
Ever since I have been a student living in the residence hall environment, the occupation of a community adviser is something that has been of my interest. When I first came to Iowa State my community adviser was someone who I could go to at any time whether just to talk, or to help me find an answer to a question I had about being a new student.
