My Ideal Democracy Essay

Human Civilization has seen different forms of government from centuries.

The word democracy has its origin from the Greek words “ demos” meaning people or citizens in a

particular city or state and “ kratia” meaning rule or power. Hence, democracy literally means a

system of government in which power is vested in the people.

Ancient Greece is perhaps viewed as the epithet of the origin of democracy; a form of governance

where the mastership of the people is an absolute authority. And this authority consists in the

people 's right to choose their leaders and legislate whatever laws they want. But is it really that

simple? The political system of Classical Athens, for example, granted democratic citizenship to an

elite class of free men and excluded slaves and women

It is more efficient, stable and

productive. There is no fear or frustration in the hearts of the people in democracy unlike other forms

of government like monarchy, oligarchy, tyranny or dictatorship. Albert Einstein, the great scientist

very aptly put it , “My political ideal is democracy. Let every man be respected as an individual and

no man idolized.”

People’s personal growth is at its best too. Democracy creates the ideal environment for the improvement of personality and cultivation of character and good habits. Art and culture are

preserved and flourish well. Creativity, research, science and inventions are at their best with

democracy. People learn to be more responsible citizens.They learn more about their duties and

rights. High self-esteem and confidence develops paving the way to amazing developments and

progress in all spheres of life as well as society.
